SAT and ACT Tutoring
I help students prepare for the SAT and ACT. The program is in two parts: brushing up on material and learning the strategies for taking the tests.
$50 per hour, with a recommended five two hour sessions, one per week. That includes five practice tests. Some students need more sessions, some need less, but in general after five sessions they have enough knowledge to continue preparation on their own.
I use only official SAT and ACT tests (past tests) as practice tests and preparation material. Students should have a copy of the official SAT or ACT prep guide (blue book or red book).
I have over 20 years experience tutoring SAT and ACT prep, including working for test prep companies.
Both the ACT and SAT tests are reading comprehension tests. Even the math portions of these tests are more reading comprehension than math.
Most students know all the material they need to know to ace the math sections by the time they complete the sophomore year of HS. In fact, most students have trouble because they're too far beyond the math material tested on SAT and ACT. That's why it's important to review the subject material. But it's not difficult material.
The science section of the ACT test requires no scientific knowledge. It requires reading skills including reading charts and graphs.
The highest grade possible is not a valid goal for the SAT or ACT. Know what scores are required for the colleges the student desires to attend.
