I'm assuming this family is self sustaining.
Ah...I did NOT assume they were self-sustaining.That's why I thought you were being sarcastic that they had to be doing well if they had four kids.

Goes to show you how cynical I have become when I see a family with that many kids :)

Myra801 --- 17 days ago -

today's republican is mostly religion based
Not Republicans I know; guess again ;)

Prolix Raconteur --- 17 days ago -

today's republican is mostly religion based

Gross generalization. And completely incorrect.

Myra801 --- 17 days ago -

Man, I just can't pass by this pile of junk and not straighten you out.

this is a known fallacy. do your legwork on this one please.

My point was that a family CAN have four kids and NOT be doing well financially; I see it all the time.Shall I ask my eyes and ears if they lied?...hmmmm...

welfare is not a living wage.
No one said it was but that doesn't stop people from using it when they should have planned better.

today's republican is mostly religion based and certainly not fiscally based. that is yet another known fallacy.

Well this is so far off it's just funny.

just because you've heard something a gazillion times does not make it fact.

Heard what? You mean observed because that's different from "heard" just so you know what I am basing it on.

trump tries that tactic all the time. reality is based on truth not repetition.

okay....relevancy?

factcheckers have trump in at 3,256 lies between 5 and 6 per day b.t.w.?

Well, heck if that doesn't prove your point nothing does....RME

You are not the voice of reason, you are the voice of hubris.

Myra801 --- 17 days ago -

Gross generalization. And completely incorrect.?

Thank you!

Hiro Protagonist --- 17 days ago -

Of course it?s not a living wage, as in what a real job would pay if you worked, it?s poverty, but the government subsidizes their food, housing and healthcare.?

And do you think that is a bad thing? Would you rather people be shoeless and hungry? It wasn't that long ago that was a reality in this country.

I'd rather we be helping the poor, most of whom are working (as an aside) than continue to beef up military spending and give tax breaks to the wealthy and to the corporations who keep all the money and keep wages static.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 17 days ago -

Of course you would.

Myra801 --- 17 days ago -

Would you rather people be shoeless and hungry?
Yes!!

It wasn't that long ago that was a reality in this country.
You mean the Great Depression?! Come on; that's not what's going on now.

I'd rather we be helping the poor, most of whom are working (as an aside) than continue to beef up military spending and give tax breaks to the wealthy and to the corporations who keep all the money and keep wages static.

There doesn't have to be an "or". Don't do any of those things.

Man!...I hate when people don't live within their means...pi**es me off because then they always want someone to feel sorry for them or help them.

I'm going to have to go resurrect my "how to hate people properly" thread...and then I seriously have to get off this computer; the day is a wastin' :)

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 17 days ago -

LOL!

the Markster --- 17 days ago -

Little does he know. The poorest counties in those red states are blue.

Got a source to back that up souploops? Im calling BS. Guess why. Counties aren't blue or red. States are.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 17 days ago -

OMG, you're funny!!

Prolix Raconteur --- 17 days ago -

. Guess why. Counties aren't blue or red. States are.

That's too funny to even address LOL.

esquala --- 17 days ago -

And just to show everyone how right The Markster always is, here's a map of all the red and blue STATES in the 2016 election: (Did I mention these are STATES?)

Try the 1950's and 60's. You ever see Robert Kennedy's tour across the country where he visited with those in the poorest areas?

Hiro Protagonist --- 17 days ago -

Would you rather people be shoeless and hungry?
Yes!!

Sadly, I believe you.

Prolix Raconteur --- 17 days ago -

Wow!?! Never knew there were 3,007 states in our great Union? LOL

Hiro Protagonist --- 17 days ago -

Man!...I hate when people don't live within their means...

Easy to say when you have "means." Lots of people work very hard and don't get enough to scrape by. I don't begrudge them getting some assistance. Our economy is fueled by the fact that most people have to spend everything they make. The more money that is out there, the more that is spent. Even if it is taken from gov't coffers, those funds still go to the businesses in the community. Not to mention if people aren't completely desperate and destitute, it helps keep the rest of society safe.

You want to live next to shanty towns and outright slums, like a 3rd world country?

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 17 days ago -

SMH.

Hiro Protagonist --- 17 days ago -

I'm going to have to go resurrect my "how to hate people properly" thread

You seem to hate the exact same people the republican party hate. "Hate the poor" should be the official motto of the republican party.

BREAKING NEWS
Paul Ryan dismissed President Trump?s charge of a spy in his campaign and warned against his pardoning himself: ?No one is above the law?

Wednesday, June 6, 2018 11:27 AM EST
Speaker Paul D. Ryan sided on Wednesday with a Republican congressman who had said that the F.B.I. did nothing wrong by using a confidential informant to contact members of President Trump?s campaign as it investigated its ties to Russia.

OrdinaryGuy --- 17 days ago -

give tax breaks to the wealthy

I hate to break this to you but the top 10% of the wealthy pay 80% of the income taxes. Your old and tired complaint about tax cuts for the wealthy just doesn't fly. You forgot to mention they pay the greatest majority of the income taxes.

OrdinaryGuy --- 17 days ago -

Who cares? That's just one man's opinion. Even with the "spy" where is the proof of collusion? Which by the way is not against the law!

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 17 days ago -

OG, he didn't forget, he thinks they should pay even more-

OrdinaryGuy --- 17 days ago -

Notice how the left wants everyone else to pay more income taxes except themselves.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 17 days ago -

Hysterical thread. What strikes me as totally hilarious, is that every single person who pays taxes IS helping the poor. Yet people accuse them who are paying of "not caring." Last time I filed my taxes, there was no questionnaire asking me to chose where my dollars went.

So what are we truly arguing about here?? We have a gargantuan welfare system here, funded by tax payers. It helps the poor in a big way. Is that bad?? No it's not. People need a hand up sometimes. But the fakes and chronic abusers are wasting other people's money. That's a fact too.
So what are we really complaining about? No working person has a dang thing to say about it. No one can opt out and refuse to help the poor!
So I could be the most stingy selfish person on earth, and I'm still helping the poor every time I get a check. Lol

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 17 days ago -

True dat.

OrdinaryGuy --- 17 days ago -

So what are we really complaining about?

The left just spouts the same verbiage they have for the last 50 years. They always want what the rich have.

Hiro Protagonist --- 17 days ago -

We have a gargantuan welfare system here,

The welfare system is a tiny fraction of gov't spending. The only way it is a large part......... is when people purposefully and dishonestly include medicare/medicaid and social security. Actual welfare is only a small percentage of gov't spending, and should not be lumped in with s.s. and medicare/medicaid.

Hiro Protagonist --- 17 days ago -

Stupid comment. There are many extremely wealthy liberals.

I hate to break this to you but the top 10% of the wealthy pay 80% of the income taxes.

As they should, since they hold that amount of the wealth.

That's really amazing coming from you! Your wife posted a long attack on me, claiming my ex-husband had drained the welfare system, because she was sure he was on disability! (He wasn't- he had private insurance from Shell) you guys are very selective about who to defend and who to attack! LOL!

OrdinaryGuy --- 16 days ago -

My Aunt was wealthy because she worked 65-70 hour weeks. Why should she have to pay more because she worked hard. Maybe if you worked as hard as she did you would get wealthy. The way I see it, you people on the left just don't want to see anyone get ahead. You want big gov't to take care of you.

We have a gargantuan ( Corporate ) welfare system. That just got worse with permanent tax cuts. Who voted for Trump with the hopes that corporate tax cuts might become permanent? Why do regular people vote republican?

Prolix Raconteur --- 16 days ago -

Going to the VA anytime soon, Mark? Seeing a doctor just got a whole lot easier for you vets, thanks to Trump. Or are you too busy counting all 3,007 states in the union? LOL

I actually believe that some of that money in there should go to career, technical and trade training. I think it's time we really did something that puts people on the road to independence. No one seems to care that these people have gifts and talents that need to be harvested and are being wasted bc some are trapped in a culture of failure and don't even realize their own self worth and potential. Everyone needs encouragement and help when they are set up for failure by their environment.

Sometimes giving money doesn't actually change their lives, it pays the bills for now, but their FUTURE isn't being helped. As I've said before, I believe their should be a time limit on govt aid if a person can work and is healthy, but job training is their true way out of poverty. Because all the govt can do, is offer long term poverty level living.

You snidely asked someone to prove their point, and you said you weren't buying it. they did and you were WRONG.
Why don't you try not acting like a know it all and challenging people when you have no idea what you're saying?
