My DH is now available to give guitar lessons. He has led worship for the last 20 some odd years, is an awesome guitarist, singer, songwriter, arranger, producer, and recording artist (I'm not partial as you can tell). Anyway, many of you here can attest to his talent. If you're interested in lessons, let us know.

Goober Garfield --- 17 years ago -

Maybe. How much for how long? What style does he teach? Where?

MissT --- 17 years ago -

Classes are $20/30 minutes held either at our place of business or our home. Any style.

My son wants to take guitar lessons so if anyone knows of someone that is willing to teach an 8 yr old please let me know. ty good luck. I was told most places won't take them until they are 9 or 10. We've been looking too. They suggested we start on a ukelele first so that we could learn some chords, etc on nylon strings first. We just bought the ukelele so I don't know how it's gonna go yet.

Atascocita Community Church does lessons.I am not for sure when but I heard they were good a reasonable.

~bump~ well trying one last time - see if any responses come our way... oops - so sorry! When I get a minute to glance at KU, if it's not on the front page or in a PM, I usually don't see it. DH is playing this morning but I'll have him msg you when he gets home.

MissT --- 17 years ago -

good luck. I was told most places won't take them until they are 9 or 10. dh has been working with my 11 yr old son since he was 7 or so... he plays better than many older kids... we believe that music - and languages - are better taught starting early

Sandyr9111 --- 17 years ago -

If anyone needs an electric guitar with a small amp its a beginner one with a Guitar, small amp, soft case, and a CD Ill sell for $100....it was used for 3 days.

dh has been working with my 11 yr old son since he was 7 or so... Yeah, oldest has been playing a long while, and he started very early. It's easy when they're always here. Dh says that unless the kid is craving the guitar (or any instrument), the chances of him/her practicing are not very good. Getting them to practice is pretty much his first priority along with theory, etc. Music should always be a part of everyone's life, young and old. But if mommies and daddies are forking over $40-$60 an hour, I'm sure they'll soon see the necessity of practice. LOL.

I'm making DD3 take piano for a year. She wants to start guitar after that. I'll be giving you a call next spring.

AFWife --- 17 years ago -

I consider this option over - never heard a peep. She has a relative to help her a bit till we find a home &I can get her into lessons.

My son is 7. Should we get a guitar, he really wants one, and then wait to do lessons? What should we start with?

ambergris --- 16 years ago -

My son is 7. Should we get a guitar, he really wants one, and then wait to do lessons? What should we start with? I have a 6 year old and it was suggested to us by a guitar instructor to get a ukelele and learn some basics on it first since they do not have steel strings. They said most young kids will give up easily because the guitar strings hurt their fingertips while developing calluses. They said to get them really interested in the music so that when they make the switch they won't want to give up just because of soreness.

Thanks

ok - I think I know the problem... I had two accounts (back in the beginning someone cloned my name and I had to set up a new account - couldn't just change them back then) I recently deleted the old one because of confusion. http://kingwoodunderground.com/topic.jsp?topicId=11193249 You must have PMd to the old deleted account. I'm sorry. I don't have your number AFWife. Send it to me again - using the name on THIS POST - Not the first one at the top! :)
