How about Cedar Landing? Nice atmosphere and a legal liquor liscense if someone wants a cocktail. Watching the sun go down over the lake is really nice. 

No one mentioned Raffa's? It's off west lake houston in kingwood. They have a great patio over looking the water and the food is great! nicer dining. 

take them to eat a goooood texas steak, now maybe someone knows where we can have a good steak dinner in the area, i only know of ones outside humble 

Chuy's for Mex. Mencia's for Chinese Osaka in Houston for Sushi. The Monument Inn for Seafood (Bit of a haul, but worth it).

Amedeo's is not too far and variety and great food & prices. They have a full bar, if you enjoy a cocktail, wine, bellinis,etc. 

Another vote for Chimichurri. Fabulous food, wonderful service, and it is also on Lake Houston so you could sit on the patio. Love that place! 

Asian City Italiano's Norton's those are my favorite non-chain restaurants (yes I know Norton's is a chain..but I still consider them local) 

Take them to texas roadhouse and tell the waiter it's your in laws birthday and to drag the saddle out!That would give them something to talk about....or to joe's crabshack and tell them it's their birthday so your in laws could stand on the table while they sprinkle fairy dust on them..or you could them to the outback...
