Today my sis purchased a money order at Kroger in Porter (she only got it there because she had a gaggle of kiddos & didn't want to go to Wal-Mart). They gave the MO to the person & he tried to cash it at Kroger on WLH Pkwy & 1960 & they refused it & said it could only be cashed at the Porter location (which was closed by then). Just a word of warning for those ever considering purchasing one at Kroger.

people still buy money orders,,,thats so 80's

krogers policy is that you can only cash a money order at the store you bought it from. every grocery store ive ever worked for had that policy. not sure about walmart...

krogers policy is that you can only cash a money order at the store you bought it from. doesn't that sort of kill the whole point of a money order?

jamie --- 4 years ago -

krogers policy is that you can only cash a money order at the store you bought it from. every grocery store ive ever worked for had that policy. Are you serious? we used to purchase them for bills. And send them out to places like San Antonio and such and never had a problem.

And send them out to places like San Antonio and such and never had a problem. We have sent them to relatives that are in other cities and states and they got the money somehow, and they didn't come to where we were to do it. That sounds strange to me.

if you want to turn it in for cash...the only place to do that is the place you purchase it. to pay bills with is different, it gets deposited in the bank.

jamie --- 4 years ago -

if you want to turn it in for cash. You mean you can't just deposit it into your bank account? Because I am positive you can.

if you want to turn it in for cash...the only place to do that is the place you purchase it. hmmm. i've had people send me money orders for things, and i've cashed them, not deposited them or whatever. weird. seems like a huge PITA.

if you want to turn it in for cash...the only place to do that is the place you purchase it. to pay bills with is different, it gets deposited in the bank My Dh's nephew has recieved a money order from me purchased at the Atascocita Krogers, and he got it cashed somewhere in Dallas and No he doesn't have a bank account or I would have just transfered the $$ to the account directly, it would have been cheaper.

i have worked in the customer service booth in several different grocery stores over the past 11 years, and every grocery store had that policy. im not sure why, maybe call kroger and ask? i think its only if you are trying to cash it, as opposed to using it to pay a bill with it, or deposit into a bank account. we would only accept MO's (to cash) from our own store, all others we woulndt deal with. i dont know why, sorry.

Raia's Mommy --- 4 years ago -

You mean you can't just deposit it into your bank account? Because I am positive you can. yes, you can deposit it into your account. it has been almost 2 years since i worked at kroger, so maybe their policy has changed.

f you want to turn it in for cash. You mean you can't just deposit it into your bank account? Because I am positive you can. she's saying if you want to cash it without depositing it into your bank account...

I think your Kroger is WACK!....I went to mine with every color of the rainbow bags and wasn't asked to purchase the ones with the Kroger logo on them. I told them about the lady that had said she got in trouble at another Kroger and they laughed and said that was entirely inappropriate for a Kroger employee to say.

jamie --- 4 years ago -

My Dh's nephew has recieved a money order from me purchased at the Atascocita Krogers, and he got it cashed somewhere in Dallas and No he doesn't have a bank account I think she is saying that it can be cashed somewhere other than the same point of sale.

I think your Kroger is WACK!. LOL wth?!

jamie --- 4 years ago -

Okay, I believe Walmart only charges 40 cents for money orders. If I buy one at a porter walmart I can save on postage and have my relative pick it up at the customer service booth in their home town. Much easier than Kroger.

Lillabeth --- 4 years ago -

FYI the post office does MO's and you can cash them at ANY post office or you can deposit them in your bank.

AFWife --- 4 years ago -

True about wallyworld but the situation at the time made it easier to $1.75 for the darn thing.

Achu --- 4 years ago -

FYI the post office does MO's and you can cash them at ANY post office or you can deposit them in your bank. The post office will cash a USPS MO only "if" they have the money. They rely on MO sales to have cash on hand. So, no sales = no cash to give and also, the money gets picked up for deposit around 1 or 2 pm. I found this out after trying to cash a MO at four different post offices.
