Anyone that waxes at home, can you tell me the best brand to try? How long does it last and how painful?

la guerita --- 16 years ago -

i don't know the best but i can say DON'T use nads! and i would be curious to know a brand that works as well.

justcat --- 16 years ago -

I would never do a bikini wax at home...ouch..no way.. Do you mean a full Brazilian??

Diamom --- 16 years ago -

Noooooooo....just for 'editing' Who does a good bikini wax locally (and that's not sleazy)?

la guerita --- 16 years ago -

Shobha I have heard good things about this brand, although it is sugaring, not waxing.

justcat --- 16 years ago -

Well..just for "editing" lol...I just like to trim, and use Bikini nair...

Going off air --- 16 years ago -

Gorilla tape is da bomb I jus know it would work wonders for this application

eterry2 --- 16 years ago -

go to sally's and get the professional stuff. I have the heater, fabric strips and wax from there. works GREAT.

OneHotMama --- 16 years ago -

Jennifer does them at Kim's place (Sheer Madness)

I bought both the "soft wax" which is the kind you have to use the plug-in warmer for, and then also the "hard wax" which you microwave. The soft wax, you use with the mulsin strips (fabric strips that you yank off) and the hard wax that you apply with an applicator and yank the wax right off. The hard wax (they sell a Brazillian wax at Sally's) is green and does not stick to your skin like the soft wax does. This means that you can reapply to get any remaining hairs. You absolutely can NOT re-apply the soft wax that you have to use the muslin strips for, because it will pull off a layer of skin each time and it can hurt you and infect you pretty badly. After trying both, my opinion is that the Brazillian hard wax is the best. They do sell a kit with other products to help prepare the hair and after the yank. Another suggestion is to trim before doing it otherwise it will hurt much worse. It doesn't have to be very long before you wax it but enough to adhere to the wax. Last piece of advice, don't do huge sections. Do sections about the size of a quarter. If you do them too large, you absolutely cannot pull them off yourself. Not only does it hurt really badly, but your natural response when you are hurting is to stop whatever is causing the pain, so you can't yank fast and hard enough in the opposite direction of the hair growth and it just ends up hurting worse. If you can get someone to pull it for you, that's the best thing. Don't wax the day you'll be in a bathing suit because it stays red for at least 24 hours and will slowly get better after that. Best to prep with baby powder after cleansing with alcohol if you don't use the kit that you can buy at Sallys because it helps the hair to stand up and the alcohol will cleanse your skin before you open it up with yanking out hairs by the pores. I hope this is making sense. I'm typing it through the stomach flu and now a migraine.

If you do go somewhere to have it done, make sure they are using a clean applicator with each swipe of wax on your skin. NO double dunking. You will bleed slightly after they pull off the strips or wax and if they are dunking the same applicator, you know they do the same with other clients which means you're getting other's blood on your open skin, which opens you to infection and disease.

I highly recommend NOT doing this at home. It's not worth it. Results are better in a salon, pain is less, etc. You can try the Kingwood Day Spa at 281 348-2227. Nadia uses the blue wax.

I was using the wax and strips from Sally's and liked it just fine, but then switched to an epilator. It is so much neater. I was using the emjoi gold and just upgraded to the emagine by the same company. You can look it up on amazon and read the reviews. It is so much neater with the same result.

Just Nair a couple of times. No way I'm waxing down there. Eyebrows are painful enough.

Okay, NOW do you see why sometimes it's just best to sport the full monty lol?

Fancy --- 16 years ago -

Seriously, just glop on a tube of Nair and take it all off. Much easier.

Bloggin_Mom --- 16 years ago -

If you are fair or hyperallergenic, do not use Nair. I did and got chemical burns that took several weeks to heal. Pay and get it done professionally.

la guerita --- 16 years ago -

If you are fair or hyperallergenic, do not use Nair. i agree with this. nair is some scary stuff! lol

mommie21g1b --- 16 years ago -

Ouch, I would suggest laser hair removal over any other option.

goots1 --- 16 years ago -

I say just leave that hair down there! Ouchhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
