USAA changed their eligibility requirements last November and now you can enroll and get their insurance. If you recall, several on here have USAA insurance and it is generally a lot cheaper.

You have to have had prior service in the military. Previously, there were restrictions and only certain military folks qualified. Now, they have opened eligibility for all their products (insurance, banking, investing)to anyone who served.

*Honorably Discharged* It was formerly just for officers. I've been with them 40 yrs., our sons use them as will their children when the time comes.

Nick, Some of the products are available for anyone regardless of military status. Prior to last November I believe you had only a certain amount of time to become a member once you left the military.

And here is the link to their website :) USAA WEBSITE

I had them for 17 years and left in 2007 due to cost. My new company has gone up so I would like to go back but the website says they aren't issuing homeowner's policies in 77345 due to coastal weather. Has anyone gotten on with them recently?

I love usaa...I've had it for years

Has anyone gotten on with them recently? My friend had them for years, just purchased her first home and left them because they were almost double for homeowners insurance as anyone else..

ShookUpRamen --- 4 years ago -

left them because they were almost double for homeowners insurance as anyone else.. Likely because USAA insures for replacement cost rather than market value. Arguments can be made both ways, but if anything happens to my home, I will be able to buy the houses on both sides of me with the check.
