The annual US budget shortfall is now near its lowest level in six years.

Second, the D.C. influence of the political group most committed to deficit reduction ? tea party Republicans ? has ebbed. In the House, it?s clear that the tea party can only push Speaker John Boehner so far. They?re unable or unwilling to depose him if he strikes fiscal deals they don?t like. In the Senate, new majority leader Mitch McConnell has deftly isolated the most conservative members of his caucus as he consolidates his position. It?s notable that the eight votes against the doc fix included tea party stalwarts Sen. Mike Lee of Utah and Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, as well as Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida.

You don't hear much discussion on the deficit anymore. Once the Republicans took control of congress this issue has kinda gone away.

But give Chris Christie credit since he has brought up entitlements.

RiteWingKing --- 3 years ago -

You never hear about the Repeal of the Community Reinvestment Act anymore. I thought this caused the Great Recession.

I think we were just being lied to and people bought it.

jacobson --- 3 years ago -

But give Chris Christie credit since he has brought up entitlements.

Any time a liberal gives credit to a so called Republican, any Republican should realize a RINO.

Actually I am legally a Republican. You are a right wing regressive that believes the planet is 6,000 years old.

Yes your views really matter to me. LOL..

jacobson --- 3 years ago -

You are a right wing regressive that believes the planet is 6,000 years old.

LOL, you're the regressive because you don't believe God.

Calling yourself a Republican is proof that RINOs exist.

RiteWingKing --- 3 years ago -

LOL, you're the regressive because you don't believe God.

And you are the only one that truly hears God's word.

Actually you are clueless. God has entered my life multiple times. I don't believe in God because I know there is a God.

You should humble yourself.

smartypants --- 3 years ago -

I don't believe in God because I know there is a God.

I wonder how many heads that will go over lol

jacobson --- 3 years ago -

And you are the only one that truly hears God's word.

I read God's Word, something that many don't do.

I don't believe in God because I know there is a God.

That's nonsense. A God? There's one God and if you knew Him, you would believe.

jacobson --- 3 years ago -

I wonder how many heads that will go over lol

Apparently it went over yours.

POS alert!

RiteWingKing --- 3 years ago -

There's one God and if you knew Him, you would believe.

Clueless still. It's not about reading scripture but the way you live your life.

I believe because I know.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 3 years ago -

I was impressed with Christie, too-

RiteWingKing --- 3 years ago -

I was impresses with Christie, too-

I turned him off for a while. What I want is a solutions person. I may not agree with him 100% but he has the guts to bring it up.

It is a major issue that America needs to debate.

It is really still healthcare. Medicaid is a major expense along with medicare.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 3 years ago -

The difference being people pay in to SS and Madicare all their working lives- I don't consider it an entitlement-

Work in Progress --- 3 years ago -

When SS started, people didn't live as long. Modern medicine is what is truly bankrupting it. They did not forsee people living into their 90s.

RiteWingKing --- 3 years ago -

Social Security I understand. Medicare we only fund about 1/2 of it through payroll taxes. That's an issue.

A substantial portion of Medicaid goes to the elderly for nursing homes. So a lot of the issue is our older Americans.

I don't want to see them living under a bridge.

Work in Progress --- 3 years ago -

SS is a Ponzi scheme which works as long as you have enough people paying in. When it started, we have many more workers than people drawing out. The numbers have flipped on us. We still have more workers, but just barely, and it is dwindling.

RiteWingKing --- 3 years ago -

They did not forsee people living into their 90s.

Part of the solution maybe increasing the retirement age.

RiteWingKing --- 3 years ago -

SS is a Ponzi scheme

That's not really true. What it is, is redistributing current economic/real assets, goods and services to the current retired.

jacobson --- 3 years ago -

It's not about reading scripture but the way you live your life.

No, that is incorrect. If you read Scripture you'd know that.

I believe because I know.

LOL, you just contradicted your "I don't believe in God because I know there is a God." statement. Who's clueless?

Work in Progress --- 3 years ago -

Medicare is a major issue too. Your most expensive year is your last year, obviously. The costs is going to be the biggest issue going forward, especially with govt healthcare. We need to be really seeking ethical and moral answers to that. I fear that what will happen is that euthanasia will be pushed. That isn't ethical or moral.

jacobson --- 3 years ago -

The difference being people pay in to SS and Madicare all their working lives- I don't consider it an entitlement-

It is to some extent because many take out much more than they contribute.

Work in Progress --- 3 years ago -

Ritewing, I think increasing retirement age would be a really good first step.

RiteWingKing --- 3 years ago -

The numbers have flipped on us. We still have more workers, but just barely, and it is dwindling.

That is true. It is the redistribution of current production. We need more immigrants to get that ratio back. Or have more sex and children.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 3 years ago -

I agree about living longer- and about increasing the retirement age-

Work in Progress --- 3 years ago -

Both of those are true. And it is probably the real reason why nobody has done anything about immigration.

Europe is doing the same thing--importing workers.

RiteWingKing --- 3 years ago -

It is to some extent because many take out much more than they contribute.

I am OK with that. I "overpay" into Social Security. Things could have gone bad during my life but they didn't. For a society it is a backup plan to keep the elderly out of poverty. From living under bridges. I am OK with that.

RiteWingKing --- 3 years ago -

It's not about reading scripture but the way you live your life.

No, that is incorrect. If you read Scripture you'd know that.

Very simple. It is a way of life.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 3 years ago -

I agree with all of that, RWK-

Work in Progress --- 3 years ago -

Btw, it went over my head too. What do you mean "I don't believe in God because I know there is a God?"

RiteWingKing --- 3 years ago -

Btw, it went over my head too. What do you mean "I don't believe in God because I know there is a God?"

"Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."

I am not as blessed. He has entered my life at times and has saved me and my family. I know the Lord God exists.

Work in Progress --- 3 years ago -

Oh, I see, so it is more than a belief, it is an assurance?

I like that. Thank you for explaining.

jacobson --- 3 years ago -

I am not as blessed. He has entered my life at times and has saved me and my family. I know the Lord God exists.

So you have seen Jesus? I doubt that.

Also, knowing that God exists means nothing. Satan and the demons know that God exists. It's about believing that Jesus is Lord and Savior.

Your words betray how you really feel.

Tea express has fallen silent on the issues that brought them into power.
Funny how hypocrites operate.

Red Heifer --- 3 years ago -

When SS started, people didn't live as long. Modern medicine is what is truly bankrupting it. They did not forsee people living into their 90s.

True. Social Security was a safety net to keep people out of the gutter as they aged. When the retirement age was set at 65, the life expectancy for a white male (all they really looked at at the time) was 66. In addition, there were more workers per retiree than now. We must curtail benefits for people who don't need them as much and raise the retirement age, as it already has been raised with a phase in from 65 to 67. The republic hasn't folded with that notion.
