A friend of ours was in a really bad accident last week. Fractured spine and 2 breaks in her leg. She, of course, a single mom with no job and no insurance is at Ben Taub and will unfortunately be release here in the next week or two. We are going to try and help her out with a part time care giver. Her elderly mom will be ther so we need someone who can assist her in getting to the bathroom and showering - maybe very light housework. Obviously female only please. I think a couple of hours each morning and maybe a couple of hours each evening (optional) would go a long way in helping her out. It may lead into more but that depends on her. Can you PM me with your information (phone number) please.

Does she not even have medicaid/ medicare? If she does she might qualify for home health services. She should ask for help signing up for medicaid/medicare while at the hospital. Usually they can provide a social worker or case manager to help with that.

Nothing. She tried to get Medicare one time and they turned her down. We're going to see if we can get her a Texas Gold Card but that doesn't cover anything at home. But a social worker is good advise. I'll pass that along. Thanks

Which part of town does she live in?

Gigix4 --- 5 years ago -

Talk with the the social services worker at the hospital, ASAP! They can provide a lot of help. All you have to do is ask.

No car insurance or no health insurance?

TwickleToes --- 5 years ago -

She lives just past the WalMart in Porter in the apartments.

No car insurance or no health insurance?

She is speaking with the social worker - it just takes time. She was a passenger, and although the drivers insurance should cover some cost it will not help her with what she needs right now. And no, no health insurance.

Oh and someone suggested I rat out my previous names - There has only been one and it was Pretty Plumber which I would still use today if anyone would respond to the fact that the password quit working. It's been years since I used that name.

You are remembered positively, for sure!

Remember when Gov. Perry refused to expand Medicaid.... There are folks who don't qualify at the lower poverty level but who work hard and still can't afford health insurance, even on the exchanges.

Gracias Amigo (hope that spelling is correct)

It sounds like this lady cannot afford to pay anyone. Is she in a church? Can her friends pitch in and help?

TwickleToes --- 5 years ago -

Oh, we're going to pay and no she does not do church, and I guess we are her friends

You are a good friend! I hope you are able to find someone to help your friend. It is so frustrating to fall through the cracks like that. I'll include her in my prayers tonight, that she find a good caregiving and that she heals well and quickly.
