Has anyone ever taken one of the discovery flight tours in Houston? My husband is turning 30 this year and he has always wanted to try piloting. There are a number of companies in Houston offering these flight tours so I was curious if anyone has a review or experience to share.

My father inlaw had pilots license but was revoked because of health reasons. He missed so much and we found a discovery flight in Cypress, Texas and can't remember the name. He loved it. It allowed him to pilot the plane with instructor with him. There was room for his wife as well. He did in spring but cockpit was still really warm. I believe those smaller planes don't have air. It was very affordable and he got a flight log included as well.

I received my Pilot's license about 20 years ago. My discovery flight (prior to my first lesson) at that time consisted of... The instructor went over the pre-flight inspection of the place, did a quick lesson on the physics of flight and pointed to various parts of the place to explain what they do. We then climbed in and he took off and landed, but let me actually fly the plane for the rest of the time. I had a great time and it peaked my interest enough to start flight lessons and eventually get a degree in Airway Sciences and aeronautics.

...the '152' in my alias is an homage to the little bird I received my private license in - the Cessna 152.

Same exact experience with me except I did mine in a 172 because a 152 is the only plane to be hit in the tail by a bird strike.

Did my high performance in a 182R/G and multi in a Piper Seneca.

Lost my medical too.

To the OP. go out to Hooks in Tomball.

Thank you all for your suggestions. Definitely gives me a starting point for my search. :)

ANY airport that has an operation that does flight instructing will be able to provide that service to you.
Try Williams Airport in Porter (S off of 1314 a mile or two west of the new GP overpass). "Eastex Aero" is the name of the school.
