1---outlaw semi-automatic and automatic weapons
2---check the purchaser's mental status - before selling them a gun
3---eliminate all ALL gun shows

This will go a long way - to reduce this senseless carnage.

Australia has stopped this problem "dead" in its tracks.

We should follow that example.

BTW, it might be a good idea to have a panel investigate where the NRA gets its millions...

Emperor of Kingwood --- 124 days ago -

Most ridiculous ideas yet and reflects a vast misunderstanding of law and guns and people.

OrdinaryGuy --- 124 days ago -

1---outlaw semi-automatic and automatic weapons

You just outlawed all guns and rifles. So you want to get rid of the 2nd Amendment!

jackass --- 124 days ago -

No one needs an AR-15 which is the equivalent today of the AK in the 80?s when President Reagan stated that no one needs that type of weapon in their homes.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 124 days ago -

No one needs an AR-15 which is the equivalent today of the AK in the 80?s when President Reagan stated that no one needs that type of weapon in their homes.

So you get to determine what people need?

The only difference between an AR-15 and any other semi automatic rifle is that it looks scary to you.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 124 days ago -

which is the equivalent today of the AK in the 80?s

It is not. An AK-47 is fully automatic.

jackass --- 124 days ago -

Yes we need people to decide for other people because some people are too stupid to figure it out for themselves

Emperor of Kingwood --- 124 days ago -

because some people are too stupid to figure it out for themselves

You want the idiots in government to think for you?

jackass --- 124 days ago -

No I want the country to vote in all new people who will actually think and consider the problems in this country and not just take money from the people who want to cover up those problems and call it something else

Emperor of Kingwood --- 124 days ago -

So its clear your referring to the NRA. What about all the other lobbyist? Or, do you just consider guns to be the only problem. Pretty myopic.

jackass --- 124 days ago -

No that?s just you saying it. But it?s the subject of the thread...so there?s that. I have the ability to stay on topic.

The Awe Inspiring JoelleDrees (Mod) --- 124 days ago -

Let's take a moment of silence to remember all the children that died for your right to own an assault rifle.

You'll do everything in your power to protect a bundle of cells that isn't even a person yet, but nothing to protect the ones who walk, talk, love, giggle, cry, and live.

I agree with OP.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 123 days ago -

That bundle of cells you refer to is human life because it can't be anything else.

Let's take a moment of silence to remember all the children that died for your right to own an assault rifle.

Oh please. They died because they were killed by someone with some sort of mental defect. But if you want to ignore the societal cancer that devalues human life by calling it a bundle of cells then you have reaped what you've sown.

OrdinaryGuy --- 123 days ago -

No I want the country to vote in all new people who will actually think and consider the problems in this country and not just take money from the people who want to cover up those problems and call it something else?

Then why did you support Hillary because all she did was take money from special interests.

Sharticus --- 123 days ago -

Guns have always been legal and kids have always gone to school. Why then have school shootings only happened on a large scale in the last 20 years? Liberal agendas like taking God out of schools? Liberal Hollywood producing violent movies more realistic than ever before? Liberal video game designers basically teaching kids to kill as soon as they can turn on an Xbox? To me that's what's changed in the last 20 years. Not the right to own AR-15's. Everyone is now taught to think they are a victim and some will take that belief and use their mad skills they learned on their Xbox to the schools.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 123 days ago -

I didn?t. I?ve voted for the libertarian candidate in the last four elections...sorry to burst your bubble bestie...

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 123 days ago -

Let's not forget that the alarms were going off about this kid, More than once, and we dropped the ball every time. He was reported for his social media comments and their violent nature. He was reported to authorities and the FBI did nothing. Why is that?

It's really annoying that the authorities did nothing. They could have saved all those kids and teachers. I don't think they take this stuff seriously enough yet.

SoupIsGoodFood --- 123 days ago -

Steiny is correct. He's not a liberal. He just carries their water.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 123 days ago -

It shouldn't be so easy to buy an AR 15. There have always been shootings, but the amount of people that can be killed in a couple of minutes make it an especially dangerous weapon in the wrong hands.

OrdinaryGuy --- 123 days ago -

It's not the AR-15. Any rifle with a big magazine can do the same thing. It's not easy to buy a weapon. Sag said it. The FBI and everyone else was warned but chose not to listen

jackass --- 123 days ago -

Steiny is correct.

That?s the wisest thing you?ve said in quite a while....lol

School Shootings---a possible solution...
First.
Mandatory insurance policies on every registered gun owner that covers expenses to anyone wrongfully injured or killed in a shooting by owners weapon.
Much like insurance for any auto on the road.

also:
Gun owners to be made to pass an IQ test. Criminal back ground checks.

Finally:
Remove assault riffles from the market. State buy back programs for assault riffles and other firearms. If arrested and convicted of a firearm related violation, could be cause for an immediate surrender of any and all weapons.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 123 days ago -

OG, Emp, why are you so reactionary every time the word "gun" is used? This is an issue about the amount of people killed in a short period of time! I'm not advocating he taking of weapons! This shooter was 18 when he bought it, with a past full of trouble! It should be harder to buy a weapon capable of shooting so many people in less than a minute or two! Why are you so unwilling to make any concessions?

OrdinaryGuy --- 123 days ago -

Finally:

Actually, it's already against the federal law for a person convicted of a crime with a sentence of 1 year or longer to own a weapon.

"Can a felon own a gun?
No
It is a federal crime for person that has been convicted in any court of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding 1 year to possess a firearm of any type."

Yet, convicted felons have weapons all the time. They don't care whether they break the law or not. Laws only stop honest citizens not criminals.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 123 days ago -

"Pass an IQ test"

oh please, lol.

"le in the last 20 years? Liberal agendas like taking God out of schools? Liberal Hollywood producing violent movies more realistic than ever before? Wow, I thought you were left leaning!

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 123 days ago -

Mark, everything on your list is either already done, or completely discriminatory. Lunatics aren't going to sell their weapons, nor are they worried about consequences.

SoupIsGoodFood --- 123 days ago -

Wayne........... LOL

Butterbean --- 123 days ago -

Not my dead kid.

I don't care.

If nothing changes, nothing changes.

Do something.

Sharticus --- 123 days ago -

Wow, I thought you were left leaning!

I'm common sense leaning. Both sides are full of sh/t.

the Markster --- 123 days ago -

Mark, everything on your list is either already done, or completely discriminatory.

No..Assault riffles were once banned. Now they are not. It stands to reason that again they could be banned. Having insurance on your car isnt discriminatory nor is it policy for guns. So why not be insured against wrongful death or injury? Whats wrong with an IQ test. "responsible gun owner" should be defined. A test could qualify or not what a responsible gun owner is and is not.

jackass --- 123 days ago -

It?s not about weapons, it?s not about mental health, it?s about a culture that advocates violence as a means of problem resolution...period.

the Markster --- 123 days ago -

It?s not about weapons, it?s not about mental health, it?s

I gotta dis agree. No one in their right mind uses a gun to senselessly kill innocent people. So it is about mental health and weapons.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 123 days ago -

"

I think I might love you.

"it's about a culture that advocates violence"

But while we DO have a lot of that, the VAST majority of people don't kill anyone bc of it. So can you say that's really the issue?

This group that is doing these school killings are mostly white, male teens. All with checkered troubled pasts...I think it's fair to throw out there that for some reason, THEY are attracted to mass murders. Not most people. So why aren't most people violent bc of our culture, games and films when most of us do partake in one form or another?

Sharticus --- 123 days ago -

I think I might love you.

Smiles!!

Mark, please explain how Hollywood, that obviously profits from violence, is not part of this problem. I would love to hear your excuse. At one time, TV shows didn't show people sleeping together, killing, etc. Responsible TV. Now it's a medium to sleep with whoever, kill, commit crimes, whatever. Just so the Liberals can make millions of dollars. Then y'all act like you are concerned about these shootings when they happen. Hypocrisy at its finest.

Sharticus --- 123 days ago -

"it's about a culture that advocates violence"But while we DO have a lot of that, the VAST majority of people don't kill anyone bc of it. So can you say that's really the issue?

Yes. The majority of these killings are kids that grew up in the last 20 years. You are thinking like someone that grew up with God, the pledge of allegiance, rules, respect... etc. These kids aren't from the same culture.

Sharticus --- 123 days ago -

We created these kids because there is no more discipline. Parents are now friends not parents. We have the internet/tv/movies that provides unlimited violence, porn, etc. And no one can see the connection. It's not about guns people. It's a lot bigger picture.

jackass --- 123 days ago -

So why aren't most people violent bc of our culture, games and films when most of us do partake in one form or another?

Most people advocate violent responses, they may not view it that way but it is what it is...yes, to fix society you have to look in the mirror.

Sharticus --- 123 days ago -

So why aren't most people violent bc of our culture, games and films when most of us do partake in one form or another?

That is a response from someone who most likely grew up in a different time and was taught values. Think about a kid that is growing up now and never had those values instilled in them. All they see is violence on TV/movies/games/internet and so violence is the obvious reaction. That's what their rap stars/ actors would do. Right?
