We have something that we can hear at night scratching around in what we thought was our attic.

I am beginning to think it is not our attic but our walls.

I have tried the glue traps in my AC vent openings, to no avail.

I dont want to put poison down as I dont want a dead animal in my walls, smelling.

Who do I call or does anyone have any other ideas?

We can hear the clatter of a squirrel, mouse or something in there.

Help!! TIA

We used a trap to trap two raccoons in our attic this season. We found the hole in the roof and sealed it up. Now there is something smaller, like you said, sounding like "in the walls". Hubby put up rat poison. River Rats are famous here for coming into our homes. They get in from the breezeway from our garage. in the attic, they eat the poison, get really thirsty and go outside to find water and eventually die outside, hopefully. The last time we had river rats we called an exterminator who did the very same thing. I am sure the rat poison was more toxic, though.

Yes, you shouldn't have to worry about them dying in the walls. Like The Q said, they will leave to look for water.

Well, Ladybug, there are the occasional ones that can't make it out becauae they are greedy and eat too much poison. That has only happened once to us. The smell was like dirty wet cardboard. But because it was so hot outside it decomposed within a week. I was just happy it was between the walls in the bathroom so we didn't have to smell it in the whole house. btw, River Rats are the size of a large mouse. They are very, very small rats. But they are smart like rats. Go get 'em Lilteapot!

The noise is coming from the walls, pretty sure it's not the attic.
Where am I supposed to put the poison?

TY For all the input btw.

I would put it in the attic. They are in your attic, but maybe because of the insulation you might not hear them. They travel in and out of the wall space which you can hear. They will be attracted to the poison and will want to eat it. Look for exterior entrances and seal them up after a few days of poison control.

We have Possums digging in our flowerbed. I saw it lastnight. I was not happy!!!!

freshhe11 --- 14 years ago -

Cs you can try putting moth balls where they dig. I did that to stop armadillos digging outside my bedroom window.
