:( My friend Malcomb, who works in the deli at the Kroger in Atascocita (has worked there for YEARS and YEARS), lost everything that he and his family owned in a fire last Tuesday. It was his grandfather's house (Who had insurance, but only something like $25,000 worth), which doesn't cover much when you have to replace EVERYTHING for 6 people. His grandfather lived there, his mentally handicap aunt, him, his sister, and her 3 kids.... I'm going to talk to his sister tomorrow to find out what size her kids wear (I know there is a 6 year old boy, a 7 year old girl, and a 16 year old girl). Malcomb had only the clothes on his back when the fire happened. He is 39 years old ~ He wears a size 4X in tops, and a 52" X 32" in pants.... so not easy to find size clothes.... If anyone happens to have clothes in this size that they were maybe going to be clearing out of their closets, please let me know. And again, I will post the sizes of the others when I find out tomorrow in case anyone has those sizes in a pile that was to go to Good Will or something.... TIA!

AngieKaye --- 13 years ago -

so sorry for your friend! Alot of KU helped out my family in the montgomer fires. I have just gone thru alot of things in my house. I know I have clothes possible for the 16 year old. Do they have a place to live? I have an entertainment center that is really nice I was trying to sell. But they are welcomed to it.

Let me know. I think I am free this weekend so if you need a truck to haul for you I am here!

HsMommy --- 13 years ago -

My DD and I were planning on going through toys tomorrow evening to take to charity. If youd like them for this family let me know.

love4bdd --- 13 years ago -

Thank you guys so much! I will talk to the mother of the 3 children tomorrow and find out what they all are in need of. :)

Cookin' Queen --- 13 years ago -

I have a lot of houseware items in my mom's home that need a new home. Pots & pans, dishes, silverware, corningware, serving pieces etc. How can I get these things to you?

love4bdd --- 13 years ago -

I am in Pinehurst of Atascocita. I may have to run to Kingwood early this evening if you're out that way.... I am going to call his sister to see exactly what they need, and ask if they could use all that good stuff as well. ;)

It is I WhyWhyWhy --- 13 years ago -

Let us know the kids sizes and other needs. I have some kitchen items I could part with as well and probably some bedding too. Oh and the aunts sizes clothes and shoes.

ladybeachbum --- 13 years ago -

Do they even have a place to live?

Love, as soon as you know more, let us know. I would be glad to help. They will need Christmas for the kids, too.

Oh my, how sad!!!!

Mabs --- 13 years ago -

We took a load to charity last month. Grr. That had sat in the garage for far too long too. Dh clothes wouldn't fit. Lemme know about the 6yo boy. Insano is really small and his older clothes are wee, like 4t and 5t. LMAO. He's just NOW sort of carrying off a 6. But I promise I'll talk a look-see at what's left around the house.

love4bdd --- 13 years ago -

Do they even have a place to live?

Not really ~ Malcomb stayed in a Motel last night ~ and has been staying with friends here and there.

Sister and her kids are staying with an uncle right now in their living room ~ She's unemployed right now and just applied for housing of some sorts she said. Going back to turn in the papers today.

Grandpa and aunt have a place to stay apparently for the time being....

Lillabeth --- 13 years ago -

Love, can we drop off stuff at your house, or is there another drop off location?

I know we have plenty of Barbies, jeans for the older girl, some stuff for the little boy, and some house hold items.

love4bdd --- 13 years ago -

Here is fine :) I will be dropping off everything to him that I get collected to him on Thursday afternoon.

AngieKaye --- 13 years ago -

Love, i have posted this on my FB page, lots of loving people on there. I will let you know soon if I get more for you! Prayers to his family for now and on going. Just so sad right at Christmas and the kids have lost all they owned :( You helped my family so much and I promise I will help your friend.

ladybeachbum --- 13 years ago -

It sounds like we should wait on household until they can get a place to live. 4X is a hard size to just find anywhere but Goodwill sometimes has them. What type clothes does Malcolm wear to work? I am sure that is a big problem for him.
I can't imagine having no where to go when you are working and trying to make it. So sad.

ladybeachbum --- 13 years ago -

My mind is going crazy over this! Do the kids have coats?

ghostpost --- 13 years ago -

~ He wears a size 4X in tops, and a 52" X 32" in pants.... so not easy to find size clothes...

Sometimes Burkes Outlet has these unusually large sizes...and they are often marked down. If anyone is going over that way, they might take a look. I'm not going anywhere close to there today but maybe later this week I can try to check.

ladybeachbum --- 13 years ago -

That is a good idea, ghostpost. And I think Fridays and Mondays are 15% off days depending on what age you are. If I get out and I shouldn't because I have projects due to finish, but I will get bored and want to get out of the house, I will check. Sam's might have the pants and their pants are really reasonable. I'ad like to get him a set of clothes.

Probably .... I will tell her & him that once they find out when and where they find a place, to let me know, and I'll let everyone else know as well.

As far as what Malcomb wears for work, I believe it's just black pants, and they provide the Kroger shirt for them....

Not sure if they have coats .... And I asked her about toiletries and such, and she said she had not even thought that far ahead ... and having a 16 year old daughter...... They are African-American, or black ~ Hate the political correctness crap.... so as far as shampoos and stuff like that, I'm not sure what type they use, etc.....

And I'm going to check at Good Will later today as well for Malcomb.

sweetscreaminmonkey --- 13 years ago -

i have some shoes for mom and the 16yr old.. and my brother may have some bigger sizes at my moms and i can ask.. he is a larger size.. i have a 20 inch tv they can have ( let me make sure it is okay) and i have some household items i was about to donate they are more than welcome to..

Mom's Taxi Service --- 13 years ago -

I have some clothes that will fit the Mom. I also have some new toys that the parents could use for Christmas gifts. I sort of remember where your house is (from buying stuff from you off KYS)...will you pm me the address? I can bring to you Wednesday morning (both the clothes and toys).

AngieKaye --- 13 years ago -

How about some of us splt the costs and rent them a storage near the motel? Surely a small one won't cost too much.

ladybeachbum --- 13 years ago -

Love, do they have transportation for like a gift card for the Dollar store or Walmart where they could buy the products they like?
I was just discussing this with my family. How hard it would be for most people to just start out fresh with nothing in today's world. It has really been the thing to get me thinking about donating this season.

I believe so.... Or I know for sure that Malcomb has a car.....

Spinqueen222 --- 13 years ago -

Can the Atascasita Kroger help us coordinate these efforts? We need a contact place to drop off items or gift cards.

love4bdd --- 13 years ago -

I actually am about to go up there right now for a few items and I was going to see who was on duty to ask them what they could do as well... as far as a fundraiser thing...gift cards from them, etc.... will get back with everyone on that in about an hour or so. ;)

love4bdd --- 13 years ago -

Ok ~ Just got back ~ They're getting all the details for their Helping Hands Program that will give them a few hundred dollars Mr. Luchen said on top of people of there getting things for them, and customers he said as well. Mr. Luchen (Manager at the Kroger in Atascocita) said that anyone can drop off clothing or gift cards, etc... to the Customer Service booth with Malcomb's name on it, and they will give it to him as well. :) Thanks again everyone for helping!

AngieKaye --- 13 years ago -

awsesome work Love! Let me know if they think the storage building is a good idea, I will even fork over the first months rent to help them

Spinqueen222 --- 13 years ago -

O.K. Good to know where we can bring items. Thanks for checking.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 13 years ago -

I know I have some things for the sixteen year old-is the Atastacita Kroger the one on West Lake Houston, and 1960?

ladybeachbum --- 13 years ago -

Love, did you find shirts at Goodwill? I dropped by there last night and they had none. If I wasn't looking for them, they would be right in front of me!
Keep us posted on what they've gotten and what they still need.

love4bdd --- 13 years ago -

I got him 4 shirts at the Good Will in Humble today ~ They had 2 pairs of pants there, but they were 52X30, not 52X32.... I didn't want to chance it.... I haven't even checked the one in Atascocita yet.... Not sure what they've received yet up there... I know he doesn't go into to work until tomorrow afternoon... But nothing as of yet....

love4bdd --- 13 years ago -

Thanks lbb! ;) Just got finished doing some laundry and washed the shirts I got him with it all this evening ~ Will take them up there tomorrow along with some other goodies for his sister and kids. I will be in Kingwood at the Atria (On Green Oak & Kingwood Drive) tomorrow around 8:45am-10:00am if anyone has anything to drop off, and wants to meet me there to save yourself a trip into Atascocita. :)
