Harris county has an Indigent burial program. Call Harris COunty Social services. 

I am so sorry to hear this, my sympathy. Was her husband a veteran by any chance? There are burial benefits for spouses of veterans.

Call Carnes Funeral Home They helped with my sister this passed Oct 2011. They will sended you to a place on Tidwell and Jenson in Houston and they will pay for her to be Cremated.I know that it may not be what you want but they do a beautiful job for a funeral. 409-986-9900 or 713-489-9521.

So sorry for your loss. How much do you need? 

Blue...if the Carnes Funeral Home you are talking about is in Galveston, I can vouch for them as well. The one on the island is owned by my dad's cousin's husband and the one on the mainland is owned by his brother. Rusty has taken care of all of the funerals in our family (including 3 in the last six months, all siblings) and is WONDERFUL! 

Yes it is the same one. They help with my brother July 4,2010 then with my sister Oct 23 2011. Now my mother just has me left and I told her if something happen to me to use them. 

Not trying to be crude or upset anyone but you could always consider the option of body donation for medical and scientific purposes.

Laurabeth, that is really a good idea for anyone. I really think that will be my choice for me. Why not gain something from the departure?

I'd be all over that option. The whole funeral/burial thing is a rip-off. Paying $1000's of dollars for a box you are going to bury???
