JAMS --- 11 years ago -

Seriously, tons of information.

Sonia-Threading-Henna --- 11 years ago -

we called district office they aske do u have attorney? go to online? but still same i wanna here is anybody has exprince so guide me.is hard some time understang english i don not wanna spend my time & money if not worth it.

Mabel --- 11 years ago -

I understand it to cost around 150.00 for each child and yes you will need an attorney.

Sonia-Threading-Henna --- 11 years ago -

ok thanks. court person told me about $250 one kid!

napoleon --- 11 years ago -

It's easy if an attorney does it and then I think once the court's order is signed then you take certified copies of the order to the different government agencies. To start the process something needs to be filed with the court - I don't know if you can do it or if you have to have an attorney.

Sonia-Threading-Henna --- 11 years ago -

next question is i have to pay fpr changing in passport/ sscar/ birth certificat as well?? how much this together roughly idea??

napoleon --- 11 years ago -

You'll have atty fees and court's filing fees.

Sonia-Threading-Henna --- 11 years ago -

thanks. But here is father is agree to change he does not have a problem.

Lillabeth --- 11 years ago -

Is this a type of adoption? Meaning, your current husband wants to adopt them and give them his last name? Or are you wanting to change their name from say, "Mary" to "Heather"?

is there sscard fee/birth ct/i am sure $ 100 for passport fee

FabFive --- 11 years ago -

Birth certificates are $30 I think, I assume the cost is the same with name changes. $100 for passports and under 18 they are only good for 5 years. I don't think there is a fee for SS cards.

If you're talking about an adoption then absolutely 2500 and up. There is a lot involved in changing a childs last name. The bio-dad even if he is not around and involved has rights so rules must be followed. I say if you don't pay child support, see your kids on a regular basis and help support them mentally and financially you should have no rights.

Lillabeth --- 11 years ago -

But here is father is agree to change he does not have a problem.

It's so hard to understand what you're saying.

The court usually does not allow a name change with minors without an adoption.

JAMS --- 11 years ago -

My 16 year old desperately wants a name change, but his bio father (who has zero involvement in his life) refuses.

So, our son tells me constantly how he can't wait until his 18th birthday so he can take his "real dad's name" (my husband) who has raised him since he was 3 years old.

Prolix Raconteur --- 11 years ago -

... Hyphens are so out.

ok, that's funny..

Summer Rain --- 11 years ago -

I changed my son's last name. It was fairly simple. Not more than $300. If the biological father doesn't care it's even easier. He can simply sign a form and it goes right through judge asks if there is anyone there to dispute if there isn't he grants the change. If the biological father refuses the has to prove his involvement in the life of the child to the court. If the child is over 12 they can go to court with their parent and tell the judge the biological father is not telling the truth and the judge generally believes the child and the change is granted. If you don't know where the biological father is you have to prove you put ads in a local paper in his last known address area and the judge will grant the change. When I went to court there were 20 plus name changes before me with all kinds of scenario's and all were granted.

Sonia-Threading-Henna --- 11 years ago -

how long to take all the process?

Sonia-Threading-Henna --- 11 years ago -

can it be any third person name or it has to be step father name??

Summer Rain --- 11 years ago -

Mine took 3 months because I had to put ads in the local paper where I last knew where he was. Then I had to get a court date. Three months is nothing compared to the final result.

Sonia-Threading-Henna --- 11 years ago -

how long to take for pettion & court decision? i know after that i have to take court copy to govt agancies to change the name.

Sonia-Threading-Henna --- 11 years ago -

do i have to pettion all the kids together or would be seprate?

MandyD --- 11 years ago -

I changed my son's last name. It was fairly simple. Not more than $300.

@ Summer Rain- Did you file the petition yourself or an attorney? I tried finding something form wise online to submit to court to start the process but haven't found anything that looks like it will work.

Sonia-Threading-Henna --- 11 years ago -

for my situation its seem not simple & easy:(. i called one lawyer thet told me only fee is $1000per child.court fee not included.

Sonia-Threading-Henna --- 11 years ago -

is any family lawyer on KU?

Sonia-Threading-Henna --- 11 years ago -

problem i do not wanna give our last name. is has to be mom or dad or step father name?

Summer Rain --- 11 years ago -

MandyD I used a paralegal. She drew up the papers for me sent them into court got the court date for me. I went to court.

AFWife --- 11 years ago -

I did it when my 25 yr old was 2. But her donor was not around so he had no say in it. I had an attorney though since I knew he would come back at some point to argue about it.

Gigix4 --- 11 years ago -

I had an attorney

I think that is the safest way to go. It may cost, but it will probably be done the correct way and can answer any/all questions.

Summer Rain --- 11 years ago -

Either way as soon as the judge puts down that gavel it is done. I used a paralegal because the attorney I used for my divorce told me to use his paralegal. He informed me that is who would be doing all the paperwork anyways. If I ran into problems from the bio he would take over, then of course the cost would go up.

Gigix4 --- 11 years ago -

A paralegal is good. They have access to all the things needed and always have an attorney with anything they may question.

Sonia-Threading-Henna --- 11 years ago -
