When the pump is on, the hot tub drains.
Pool guy can't find anything wrong - ???

WTHECK

mutton --- 11 years ago -

One of the valves has an issue, been through this with the spa so maybe that is the problem?

JAMS --- 11 years ago -

He checked that and said it all looks good.

Gigix4 --- 11 years ago -

Talk to Texas Tom's. He may be able to tell you right off what is wrong or will send someone out to check it. They are pretty dang good about things like that.
Good luck.

freebyrdll --- 11 years ago -

That is all it can be.... A valve is in the wrong position, period.

RedMulch --- 11 years ago -

You don't have a good pool guy if he can't figure that one out.

Leather --- 11 years ago -

It's definitely a valve. It is either in the wrong position, or it's broken internally.

ShadowHunter --- 11 years ago -

Stop hiring pool boys for their looks.

The Sicilian --- 11 years ago -

FWIW - I agree with all of the above...

Bad valve
Bad pool guy
Call Texas Tom's!

RedMulch --- 11 years ago -

Stop hiring pool boys for their looks.

No need to do that. You just have to know how to fix it yourself after they leave.

Celebrity --- 11 years ago -

We had this when pool was off and was a check valve.

Quixote --- 11 years ago -

Been there Jams, it's a bad or stuck valve. Probably just stuck in the open position.

JAMS --- 11 years ago -

He said it wasn't the valve...how can I check it? What am I looking for?

Emperor of Kingwood --- 11 years ago -

One of the suction valves is positioned so that it sucks from tne spa, while the discharge valves are discharging to the pool.

Make sure the suction valves are positioned to suck from the pool by cycli g the valve making sure the valve moves and not just the valve handle.

Split the discharge valves half to tne spa and half to the pool.

JAMS --- 11 years ago -

What did you just say?!?!?!?!

I need pictures. And pop ups.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 11 years ago -

The valve handle points in the direction of flow from or to.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 11 years ago -

The discharge will come from the heater. Suction will come into the pumps.

Jeff777 --- 11 years ago -

JayEl can fix all yer probs

Not KU --- 11 years ago -

I second that.

Who is your pool company?

JAMS --- 11 years ago -

It's a private pool professional in my neighborhood.
He services multiple country club pools too, so it's not like he's some schmuck off the street.

I switched a few months ago because the "professional companies" never arrived on schedule, and I couldn't get them to come AFTER the yard guys!

MGD3 --- 11 years ago -

If you have automatic valves it is possible that even if the actuator is turning that the diverter inside is not. Check the valves no matter what your pool guy is saying.

MGD3 --- 11 years ago -

If you have all manual valves then one is turned incorrectly. If you have auto valves also or only then it is a malfunction. You can remove the screw on top of the handle, remove the handle, unscrew the 4 screws that hold the actuator in place (that is the box on top of the auto valve) remove the actuator then screw the screws back in, and replace the handle to use the valve manually. This is only a temporary fix until you can replace the broken piece and then begin using your automation again.

Thank you for the pictures!!!
It'll come in handy tonight lol

MGD3 --- 11 years ago -

If you really wanted to open the actuator up, 17, 20, 31, or 32 is probably where your problem is. Most places will only sell the whole actuator though.

I was a gas turbine mechanic on LCACS in the Navy once upon a time...I should be able to handle a pool pump, right?
