My 40' x 20' pool, fresh water is losing approx. a inch a day wife said I say this every year..is anyone else's pool doing this? water bill REALLY went up

latemom --- 9 years ago -

I don't know if it's a whole inch but yes our pool water is evaporating more this year than last. We have to add water to it about every other day! So not only higher electric (AC cranking) so is water bill. And it looks like another week of 100 degree. Temps. Ugh.

Take a bucket and fill it with water so that when you set the bucket on the first pool step, the water in the bucket is even with the water in the pool. now let that stand for 24 hours. come back and see if the water level in the bucket is now higher, or the same as in your pool. if the water in the bucket is higher then you might have a leak. if it is the same. Great! it is probably just evaporation.
During the summer even 3 inches a week lost to evaporation isn't impossible. If more that that though i think there might be more going on.

Great experiment.

My pool is evaporating a lot too.

Filling pool every other day too.

Gigix4 --- 9 years ago -

So far, the pool water evaporation hasn't been too bad. I'm topping it off about every 4 days and it usually takes about 30-45 minutes to fill it back up. It amounts to about the same water a teenage would use with one of "those" showers.

The heat (and sun) is a pool's enemy right now and not much relief in sight.

Are you using the pool? If so, you are losing water because of that also.
