Kids suspended from Atascocita High School for presenting their rival school a fruit basket that was viewed as racist.

Since I wasn't there and I don't know what the school investigation revealed, I can't really know what all went into their decision.

We all know that watermelon is often used a way to insert a racially insensitive stereotype and then claim innocence. The fact that not only a watermelon but "watermelon gum" was also included in with the "gifts" makes it seem there was a racial motivation at play. That seems like a highly coincidental inclusion if there was no ill will intended.

I have never heard of this tradition of exchanging of gifts before a game. We all know teens can use some pretty bad judgement. Why would these so-called gifts not be approved by school leaders beforehand? It seems there is plenty of room for kids to come up with ways to subtly and not so subtly insult each other due to rivalry. I am surprised this is the first time something like this has been questioned.

Good job Summer Creek. Way to teach students to become victims.

My guess is it wasn't the students who were offended, but someone's mom.

According to urbandictionary.com, the slang use of coconut, watermelon, and pineapple do have meanings that are racially offensive. A coconut, for example, is an individual who is brown on the outside, but white on the inside. Suggesting that a coconut is a sellout to their racial heritage - "acting all white." Anyone who works with teenagers knows the slang terms they often choose to use carry a double meaning. Think the administration at AHS is more in tune and smarter than their students seem to realize!

So what does a pineapple mean? I heard it wasn't even a fresh pineapple but a can of pineapple they gave them. A very odd choice for a fruit basket.

Why are people concerned with the "slang use"? Ridiculous. You do realize that the urban dictionary isn't a real dictionary, don't you?

Jacobson, you're obviously out of the cultural loop. if you sat in on a peer-to-peer teenage conversation today you would be scratching your head wondering what they were talking about. Are you and old geezer?

The team that was offend by the fruit basket deserves the biggest pussey of the year award. What a bunch of whiny little cry babies.

i miss the old days when men wanted to be men, not Kardashians.

Here's the meaning of the can of pineapple tidbits given in the gift. Diced Pineapple lyrics

I know that many years ago the Atascocita dance team gave the kingwood fillies "ho-ho's" and "ding dongs". I know this isn't racial but Atascocita is known for getting their "digs" in.

Hyper sensitivity kills communities.

Maybe Obama will invite the "victims" to the White House?

Who prides themselves on being over sensitive?

Yes, I am because that "cultural loop" is morally corrupt.
