You can get dog tags on ebay for $3, free shipping and with up to 3 lines written on each side. It takes 2 seconds to take a current snapshot of your dog, to keep handy if needed. If your Dog gets lost, and you neglected to have a collar and tag on it, it's an epic example of irresponsibility as a caretaker. If you can spend hours putting up flyers, losing sleep wondering if you will ever see your companion again, then you have 2 minutes to order the correct ID and another 2 minutes to install it on the pet. And if you don't think your dog won't end up as a bait dog because it's in Kingwood, then check out the rescue pictures and posts on Facebook. They will make you sick. And why even post a lost pet without a picture?

I agree on all points. I've wondered about the lack of tags for a starter.

Well, my 18 year old daughter was living with her dad the past 4 months when she acquired the"lost dog" and just moved back home yesterday. She put the dog in the back yard while I was working and she escaped. There are many reasons, like this one, why people don't have a collar and or a photo. Thanks for the advice though, some of yall seem to get a thrill out of being A holes!

Trying to post a photo now, but idk how on this site, there is the reason I didn't post one, would someone like to tell me how to post a photo on my thread?

So in that 4 month period, there was no time to get any kind of ID for the dog? Petsmart even has a machine that will make the tag while you wait.

She was at her dads, his/her responsability, they got the dog. Do you know how to add a photo?

Those dangling tags fall off all of the time. My dog keeps them for about 4 months before they go missing again. I switched to a key ring which did better but broke off too. I got a collar with a plaque riveted on it. Yep it fell off eventually. So not every dog without tags is the result of a irresponsible owner. The tags these days are garbage.

Do you know how to add a photo??
It looks like you can't simply add a photo like on facebook. It has to be a link. If you have a photobucket account, you could do it. Heres a link to an older discussion for posting pics on KU:

Sometimes people take dogs collars off bathing them and dog escapes -- I haven't had this happen to me personally but I've read post where others had this happen or their child took off collar ( the ones that snap on not buckled). The parent didn't know dogs collar was off and opened door and dog got out of their yard.
I stop whenever I can possibly do so and rescue dogs with collars on them, I can tell you many dogs do not have name tags on them or rabies tags, When this has happened I post flyers and take the dog by to see if it's microchipped.

Please microchip your dog because people can take the collars with name tags off and keep your dog if they want to but microchipping your pet has as helped people recover their dogs after the dog has been missing for years !

Dog collars present a major hazard for playing dogs. If you have more then one dog and you leave them with their collars on while not directly supervised(i.e. you can see them at all times) you put your dogs at risk to be choked or breaking the other dogs jaw. Dogs(especially dogs with longer snouts) can easily get their lower jaw wrapped up in another dogs collar which will cause both dogs to panic(one is getting choked the other is has its jaw stuck and can even be slowly sawing through their tongue(i.e. if their tongue is caught between the collar and their teeth)). By the time you realize something is wrong the situation could be past saving(god help you if you buy the buckle kind instead of the quick release, if you don't find something able to cut it fast enough you could be stuck watching you dog die). I highly recommend you microchip your dog(and keep the address and contact information as current) and leave the collars off until you need it. When my Husky and German Shepherd escaped the back yard in their harnesses they had tags on them. They came back 24 hours later by themselves but nobody(I assume) ever found the harnesses/tags.

Check your dog tags often. Tag information wear off and become unreadable, even the engraved types.

On that note, I found a cute tag online. It said, "F@#$ "I'm Lost!" lmao
