Am looking for area tea room/shop-need tea strainers and looking for someplace that sells tea things. Also, I would like to visit tea room for lunch. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Alspaughs has a limited selection of tea strainers/tea pots. Not a lot, but might have what you need. We could use a nice tea room in KW area for sure.

pookie --- 14 years ago -

not familiar with Alspaughs (don't get out much) I thought I had read Magnolia Tea Room was closed-will call the phone number provided and check it out. Would love to open a tea room myself. I love to bake (especially cookies)- but Husband and I don't need to eat those calorie-laden goodies, so I hardly bake anymore.

there's a great tea store in Willobrook Mall

We had one a couple doors down from Gayle's Hallmark in the HEB center up till about a year ago. It was only there about 6 months...they had signs on the tables that basically said, 'move on when you have finished at your table so others can enjoy our tea room too.' Can you believe it!! No visiting....NEXT????? Needless to say their rude attitude and deplorable business tactics brought an early end to their venture!

pookie --- 14 years ago -

what's a tea room for if not for a place for the ladies to enjoy not only a cup of tea but some enjoyable chat time with your friends? Seems like the owners of that establishment missed the point.

freebyrd --- 14 years ago -

WOW, sorry about recommending a closed tea room....maybe they put up signs on their tables too!!!!! I attended a bridal shower there last Oct. and it was lovely.

pookie --- 14 years ago -

does anybody here read the Laura Childs book wherein the main character owns a tea shop in Charleston, SC? If only we could have a place like that in our area. I checked the listings for Old Town Spring and did not find any tea rooms still in business there either.

oy with the poodles already --- 14 years ago -

I noticed a sign for a tea room earlier this week on 1960. It was near the Atascocita library, in the same shopping center as Roma's, I think. I don't remember the name though.

Perhaps we lean a little towards saloons here in texas, not tea rooms?

planemom --- 14 years ago -

The last tea room I visited was "Martha's Bloomers" on rt 6 between Navasota and College Station. A bit of a drive for just going to tea.

Tea rooms need a big space to be profitable. Women like to sit and visit while they are there. The business needs a certain amount of customers everyday. If they only have a few tables then yes, they need to encourage their cliental to hurry. Not a good business plan to rush your customers.

I wonder how Starbucks make money. Seams like a similar situation to me. Just drinking coffee instead of tea??????

Fan4LSU27 --- 14 years ago -

The Magnolia Room closed down.... the building is now inhabited by one of those charter school things.

That's my favorite! My sister lives in College Station, so it's a nice middle point for us to meet! :)

The used to be, it still might be there, one in Highlands across the street from the Fire Station, called "the Depot". it was cute and nice.

I've ALWAYS wanted to open a tea room, used to collect all kinds of cups and saucers, tea plates, luncheon sets.....I really would love to have a B&B with a tea room and coffee house.....you know, when I retire!

The boyfriend says that's fine...just as long as he can open a gun range on the back of the property! LOL!

There used to be a PROPER British tea room in Old Town Spring but the last time we attempted to go there, they were remodeling. I wonder if perhaps the new one of which you speak is it STRONGSOUTHERNMOM.

It's awesome Fun mom......there is a tea room, and it's also a garden store. And there are a few other boutique type shops in there as well. It's fun to go and relax. :)

Laurabeth --- 14 years ago -

Seriously...if they put in a massage therapist, I think I would just move in!

sweetscreaminmonkey --- 14 years ago -

A big part of their sales are take out or drive through customers. They also charge a premium for their products.

I am sorry to hear The Magnolia Room closed down, they served great food. it wasn't the prettiest place to eat but it was clean and the food was wonderful. I know they did lots of their business through catering, I wonder if they still do?

midlifegirl --- 14 years ago -

there is a new one in Huffman on Crosby side on 2100..not far from 1960 right by the saw mill - haven't been there just noticed the sign

Krirya05 --- 14 years ago -

I just saw a sign up in the Atascocita shopping center off 1960 over there by Tuesday Morning. I want to say the name is Mimi's tea room..not sure as to if it is open yet. I did a google search and the # I found was 281-360-6464 if you want to try and give it a call

Poppy's Tea Room. The sign says they are open, but it doesn't look like they have much business yet.

Vintage Garden Tea

doglady --- 14 years ago -

I was in the center it is in today, so I went up and looked in the window. It is, in fact called MiMi's Tea Room. It looks like a nice little place. Is set up to serve food I suppose, because there are tables and chairs with table cloths. Also, looked like a pretty good assortment of teas and all the things it takes to make a good cup - strainers, etc. It is on 1960, east of West Lake Houston Parkway, in the 8000 block. There is a Tuesday Morning, a small gas station on the corner, and an O'Reilly's auto parts place. The cross street is Pinehurst Trail. You'll have to post if you go and let us know how it was:)

Alspaughs (don't get out much)

Alspaugh's (ACE Hardware) is a fabulous hardware store. Everything from nails and hammers to Waterford crystal...and a great garden center with ladies that know everything in the world about how to plant anything you want to plant:)EDIT-forgot to tell you where it is...fronts on West Lake Houston Parkway,(at the Kingwood Dr. intersection) just around the corner from Randall's and CVS

Krirya05 --- 14 years ago -

Would love to know how Mimi's tea room is...sure do miss Old town spring's tea room

Stephanie --- 14 years ago -

This place isn't local, but I buy a lot of online supplies at http://www.teamerchants.com love their shops, much cheaper than tevanna

I was unfortunate enough to stumble into Mimi's Tea Room last week...
The tea was nice enough, but the food could gag a maggot! I've seriously had better sandwiches from gas stations! And they have the nerve to charge $12 for a crappy tuna sandwich, and a cup of canned soup. I predict Mimi's Tea Room will not last long.

dobermom --- 14 years ago -

St Regis Houston does an elegant tea with dainty sandwiches and pastries.

Southern Man --- 14 years ago -

Mimi's has all that tea stuff. Try a slice of pie and a cup of tea when you're there. You can thank me later. The lunches are also very good.
