My dog just had a mini heart attack! It was out of nowhere! Loudest crash of thunder I've heard in a long, long, time! About 5 minutes ago in Atascocita!

My dog went running upstairs and hid! She is back now at my feet but she is so afraid of thunder. 

My friend on 12th fairway said there was lightning that looked like it struck somewhere nearby. Hope no one was hurt. 

my black lab is shoved between the wall and the toilet...it's his "safe place"....lol! 

Somewhere in KU land, someone's Golden Ret. is wedged between the washer/dryer and the wall......... 

Lately, I have been having a problem discerning whether it is the neighbor's loud muffler assembly or thunder. No problem recognizing this time. 

Yep...gotta go on the hunt for our dog...probably wedged between the toilet and wall in downstairs bathroom :( 

Mine is now underneath a chair in the far corner of my study while the other one is relaxing in the recliner. Such different personalities. The scared one would protect me so I protect her now.

Dog JUST came back out of hiding...... 

The vet we used to have, when we lived in KW, told me to give our JRT 1/2 3mg. Melatonin an hour before a storm, if possible. I usually miss that, but give her the pill with a little peanut butter, put it in her mouth, and after a while she stops shaking and calms down. She's about 13 lbs., and is petrified of thunder. She even knows before it rains. Don't ask me how, but she does. My JRT only got this way as she got older, wasn't that way as a puppy. She's now 8.I have a neighbor with a golden. He just told me, when I saw him the other day, that their vet said to give benadryl.

Yup... I did too... It was a very low rumble compared to the last one... 

Susie, that is good to know. My girl is much bigger so I bet I could give her one. She knows, too, that it is coming. She wouldn't get out of bed this morning to go outside. They will be crossing their legs soon! 

One dog scared, one dog chillin...so true of different personalities. We just sit with the scared one and it seems to comfort him. We know about doping the dog before storms but with Houston weather, you never know when the storms are going to hit. I wonder why dogs get so petrified of thunder?? Our big dog developed this fear just out of the blue a few years ago. I would like to know what triggered it.... 

My dogs never get scared of weather but when I need them to chill, I give them all a Benadryl. Works wonders.

Here too! The Basset is passed out sleeping, like nothing is going on...the Chiweenie is in my lap, which is her norm if I'm sitting. The black lab is still squeezed between the wall and the toilet...lol! He'll be there all day!

AND, he won't go on the wet grass to go potty...you literally have to DRAG HIM to the lawn, it's ridiculous!

i have two cats in the windows talking to the thunder and two cats under the bed hiding.

animals are strange =) 

Mine are both sharing the sofa, snoring and farting, oblivious to the thunder.
