President Obama notified Congress today that he is sending some 100 U.S. troops to central Africa to help battle a group known as the Lord's Resistance Army.

This isn't new. The Salvadorian Army is trained by American soldiers. I remember seeing my Uncles graduation video from the Salvadorian military in the 80's and all the higher ups were Americans speaking English in US Uniforms. America is buddy buddy with El Salvador and really want to help them keep the communism threat down. I'm not kidding.

I'm just guessing here but I think you are relating the South American campaign to the African campaign in that there are similar because we are helping foreign troops right? 

The way I see it, is the US troops are sent there to help out the foreign troops. In training, strategy and management. If they aren't their to fight, I don't see it as an extra expense. Those 100 troops were already getting paid by the military no matter what.

I'm not defending it or approving it, it's just nothing new.
