I will be participating in the Kingwood/Humble Relay for Life with Team Brittany's Sweet 16.
KU was so in love with this little girl and moved by her walk with cancer, plus the strength her mother and dad showed with each and every step.
Well, this May 3rd is Kingwood/Humble Relay for Life day and it happens to be the day Brittany would be Sweet 16!
I know over the years, we have lost many loved ones to cancer. We have also seen and heard of many survivors, right in our very neighborhoods and here on KU. We can see that some major strides have been made with research with the dollars we have walked for. However, more research is still required.
PLEASE donate or sign up to be on our team, or start your own team! IT is fun and does your heart so much good! Every single dollar counts! Every single step counts!
PS.....If you do not know Brittany, just google her name and all sorts of beautiful threads will come up.
I am not successful at posting links so perhaps someone can do this for me? TIA
I would so love to do this with ya'll, but not sure my back could hold up to it. Can I be apart of the team and help raise donations even if I am unable to do all the walking? I remember the first time we all gathered to support Brittney and her family. For a very long time, the first thing I would do every morning was to sign onto KU, to check for updates on Brittney and look and her pictures. One could get lost in her eyes.
of course, belle. i am not sure i am going to be able to walk that much but i will still be there and trying to raise funds for cancer research.
also, i know we have some survivors here on ku over the years. i hope the survivors will sign up and participate, too! we are so thankful for our survivors and the strength and endurance they have! they have a special shirt for the survivors and have a special part of the program just for them.
On the night that Brittany passed, I took BJ, my son, out to the ocean. We sat on the beach and watched the waves peacefully come ashore. Brittany was his best friend. I told him that she passed on and went to Heaven. He sat there for the longest time and didn't say anything. Then he asked me, "Mom, if I throw this shell hard enough, do you think that it could reach Heaven? Because I want to write on it, To Brittany From BJ - I miss you."
We can't make sea shells reach Heaven, but we can fight. I know we will make a difference in the fight to end cancer. I know that by raising funds and walking in the Relay For Life event, we will help save lives.
with this being Brittany's 16th birthday, it is certainly going to be bittersweet for her mom and dad. i hope we will all try really hard to be there and support them as best we can. it will be a difficult evening for them.
natu, i remember bj being heart broken because he lost his best friend.
Brittany lost the battle to cancer on July, 26, 2007.
Her tumor was diagnosed in July 2005. Yes, her mother was and still is a member on KU.
KU did lots of praying, fundraisers and all sorts of things for Brittany and her family during and after this loss.
So many fell in love with the entire family and the community really rallied together in many ways. Our loss was huge and many still shed tears over this on a regular basis.
There is a Relay for Life for Brittany team every year. We made a commitment to do our best to remember and to do all we can to support those putting up the good fight and those who have lost the battle to cancer....all cancers.
There are threads all the way back to 6 years ago when unichic first came to ku asking for prayers for this little girl with cancer. this is the link to that thread since we can not seam to bring up threads that old any more:
