We will drive and wanting to stay 5 days 6nights.....sooo lost on where to start. 1 child and 7 adults

Emperor of Kingwood --- 10 years ago -

Some Valium would be a good start.

napoleon --- 10 years ago -

Stay on site for the benefits - Disney transportation and extra park hours. I wouldn't do park hopper passes, just do 1 park per day.

Leila --- 10 years ago -

Sounds like a nightmare to me, lol.

Seriously though, go to a disney website, I am sure there are many with itineraries and tips.

acsarben --- 10 years ago -

It is a stress filled 16 hour drive so that cuts you to 3 days - 4 nights....you want a two day pass at the park....If feasible, I would allow more days bevause of the drive or I would not call it a vacation...I've done it twice and did it the right way the second time

No actually its not, but you can (should) build it into your plans. Start with a visit to your Dr., get a script for valium. Next get a powerful pain killer, you will need it by the end of the day.

After you arrive, go to the liquor store and get a very large bottle of 151 Rum.

Take one half valium before you enter the park each day. ABout noon, take one pain killer, (by that time you will need it because your feet, back and at least two other parts will hurt).

About 3PM every day (about the same time as the drenching thunderstorm) take the other half of the valium.

Once back in your room, determine your dining options (this determines the doseage of alcohol mixed with pain killers)that you will need.

By this time you will likely be a blithering fool, but it doesn't matter, at least you won't be hurting.

Go to www.disboards.com and start reading!!! I found the Disney site quite helpful. We like to stay on site ( Polynesian and Boardwalk) but have stayed off site also( Staybridge is pretty awesome) and ridden the shuttle in. Think about the parks you'll spend the most time in and stay close by. We're empty nesters so we don't go to Magic Kingdom - And we live Epcot so we like Boardwalk, and the resorts in that area.
Best advice- don't try and cram every thing possible in those days! You'll get tired aaa d the kids will get very cranky! We always took advantage of a park opening early for resort guests- everyone picked the one thing they HAD to do at that park and then we'd have a leisurely lunch and go back to the resort and hang out. The first time we took the kids when they were old enough to enjoy it- we tried to do too much and the kids hated it big time!
Have fun!!!!

Go to Barnes and Noble and purchase
"The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World 2014".
We have gone to WDW 5 times over the past 25 years. Our kids have been all ages and we've even gone without kids. This guide has never steered us wrong.

if possible...go when school is in session. It is so worth it to take the child out of school. In the summer it is soooo crowded, I'm talking shoulder to shoulder in some areas. In the school year, you might have a half-empty park and then you can really enjoy all of the "magic" that WDW puts into everything. If you go in the summer, it's just another theme park, people are hot, it's just as humid as here, afternoon thundershowers, and grumpy kids and adults. You're going to spend some $$$ so make it worth it.

If you do go in summer, just be prepared for it all. Go when the park opens and take a mid-day break.

I disagree about not buying the park hopper because if for some reason the park you are in gets very crowded, you can switch to another park then go back to the crowded one later in the day, or on another day. We do not buy the meal packages because it's more food then we can eat - it's less expensive for our family to just buy the food we want when we get hungry. We prefer to stay on property so if anyone in our group get tired or wants to go to another park, everyone doesn't have to leave - they just take the bus/tram back. Parking costs adds up too! The unofficial guide is excellent!

Plan early, 6 months to a year in advance
Fly, don't drive
Stay on the property. If anyone is military, you can stay on the property at Shades of Green.
Don't go during the summer. It is too hot!
Get the Park Hopper

its a small world after all
its a small world after all
its a small world after all
its a small, small world...

I love that ride.....second favorite is Mr. Toad's Wild Ride...doesn't get much better than that.....

When we went a hundred years ago, I called and asked when attendance was lowest. They told me that all the schools out east started after Sept 1st and that no one wanted their kids to miss out on the first weeks of school. That is when we went and practically walked on every ride. We did ride everything in one day.

Niki --- 10 years ago -

We just went in June. Only Magic Kingdom was super crowded.

Definitely get the park hopper because some days certain parks have different hours so you can go to one that stays open later after another closes.

Stay on property.

Get fast passes before you go.

We drove. I am a single mom and I drove in 1 day by myself. It was about 14 1/2 hours.

I don't recommend the meal plan. Read about them on the Disney website before you go. They are expensive and include a ton of food.

Have fun!!!

Bob has the 1 and only plan for surviving DW.

You can go to the Disney website and plan out your entire trip.

You will get armbands for each person that will have all information on it.
These armbands are your room keys and will be your fast passes.

Through the website you can choose up to 3 fast passes a day and make dinner reservations.

We did the park hopper and we did use it a couple of times. We have stayed onsite each time that we went & I would not recommend staying offsite.

We just went a few weeks ago and stayed at the Fort Wilderness cabins. That is a great place to stay because it has a kitchen and refrigerator. We were able to make breakfast and then head out to the parks.

We have not done the meal plans for any of our trips.

We went three years ago and stayed in a resort condo, Orlando Wyndham Bonnet Creek Resort. It was 4 bedrooms 4 baths with a view of the fireworks every night. The week was less for 5 adults and 3 kids than anything Disney and this was on Disney grounds. It had it's own bus so no going from hotel to hotel. The place is very luxury, super kitchen, wired in computer, you name it. We will always go back here if we go to Disney. There are others but this was our favorite. I think we paid about $1,000 for the week. Two of the bedrooms are masters and two are set up with queens with a bath outside each. Check ebay to see if there is a listing for the days you are going. We bought park hoppers at the Resort at a discount. My brother took the tour and got free tickets. We never went to more than one park. We took snacks and water bottles with us inside the park which was no problem but check the rules for now. We had a stroller so it was easy to take them.
I am thinking about taking my Goddaughter and her now 4 kids back but not sure I have the energy for that! It is a great place but pushing a stroller with two kids uphill is tiring!
Have fun and enjoy. With 5 adults and one child, you should have no problems!

Four Seasons just opened a hotel by Magic Kingdom. That would be my first choice.

We always stayed within walking distance to Epcot, as they have a good variety for dinner and we would walk back to hotel after. We have stayed at the Yacht Club (3 times) and Boardwalk (1 time).
