Emperor of Kingwood --- 10 years ago -

A big slice of hickory smoked country ham pan fried to a light golden brown. Two paties of country sausage with a side of thick sliced smoke cured bacon. Two farm fresh eggs fried over easy drizzled with bacon drippings. Another side of big fluffy white biscuits topped by smooth cream gravy. And to wash it all down, a big mug of hot steaming black coffee and a cold glass of milk.

FNHO --- 10 years ago -

If that's your norm and you make it to 65 you're a lucky son of a gun.
If my wife hated me she'd feed me that way.

*LOL* --- 10 years ago -

That sounds so darn good! Granola and yogurt here. Yes, I'm boring!

a889324uu --- 10 years ago -

And you're a diabetic?
No wonder...

FabFive --- 10 years ago -

My husband is making the kids chocolate chip pancakes.

Pauly G --- 10 years ago -

Some nice crispy bacon and eggs fried in the bacon grease.

Enjoying my second cup of bullet proof coffee right at this moment.

I wish I could have breakfast like that, but alas, its a hard boiled egg and coffee today. My wife doesn't feed me, I can do that for myself.

Toasted buttered beans

Hmmmm tell me more.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 10 years ago -

And you're a diabetic?

Yes, but type 1 diabetes is a complete failure of the t-cells in the pancreas to produce insulin. Its cause is an auto immune disease. Type 2 diabetes is often related to diet, but has more to do with insulin resistance.

Texan65 --- 10 years ago -

Read the posts this morning on immigration

Yes, but type 1 diabetes

I thought you shared in another thread that it was adult onset diabetes.

Alaska Again --- 10 years ago -

Homemade waffles with fresh blueberries and coffee. Waiting for the snowfall! A perfect morning.

mutton --- 10 years ago -

Adult onset diabetes is normally type 2?

Butterbean --- 10 years ago -

Yes.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 10 years ago -

Ithought you shared in another thread that it was adult onset diabetes.

By virtue of the fact that I was an adult when diagnosed type 1 it by definition is adult onset. However, you are correct, the old term for type 2 is adult onset and type 1 juvenile.

Emperor of Kingwood --- 10 years ago -

It can be but isn't always. Adults with type 2 tend to develop over time and adults with type 1 tend to present much more quickly.

mutton --- 10 years ago -

DH type 2 when late 50s so was thinking that was same...

http://www.everydayhealth.com/type-1-diabetes/understanding-adult-onset-type-1-diabetes.aspx

Here's a straight forward article.

I was diagnosed at about age 40.

Butterbean --- 10 years ago -

Thanks for clarifying.

Diabetes runs in my family; so I am doubly cautious. Dietary recommendations are the same for any type of diabetes.

An active exercise regimen, along with dietary planning reduces the risk significantly.

Type 2 diabetes is almost 100% reversible.

mutton --- 10 years ago -

Dh was bad enough he needed insulin, lost some weight and was able to control without. He is in chair so is hard for him at times on the exercise but diet is learning self control for sure!

esquala --- 10 years ago -

Eggs scrambled in butter with a little ham, mushrooms and tomatoes, topped with sour cream and chives. Coffee with cream and stevia.

Started low-carbing it six months ago. Have lost 30 lbs and have cream in my coffee and eggs every morning. Going to the doc next week for physical. Bloodwork should show pre-diabetes is now last year's history, and cholesterol down.

mutton --- 10 years ago -

Yay for you esquala!

esquala --- 10 years ago -

Thanks, mutton! I love this way of eating. I will be a low-carber for life.

Good for you!! It does take effort to change habits long years in the making. There are a lot of ways to do it. Find whatever works for you.

esquala --- 10 years ago -

Oh, I tried lots of things, but they always involved hunger. This one doesn't.

Butterbean --- 10 years ago -

Please share the lab a1c results, if you will. I love success stories.

esquala --- 10 years ago -

BB - I certainly will. If you like success stories, there's a fb group called the Low Carb Dish, where members post actual pictures of their bloodwork results. They also post before and after pics of themselves.
