Hi everyone. I'm looking for some hardy amaryllis bulbs, aka St. Joseph's Lily.

My mother grew these at her home when I was a kid and I would love to have some for sentimental reasons.

Over the last couple of years I have done a pretty exhaustive search online without much success. Most retailers either no longer carry them, are sold out or they are crazy expensive. It seems these have mostly become pass along plants.

If you need to divide your amaryllis bulbs or know someone who does and wouldn't mind parting with some I'd love to know.

I even tried to grow some from seed that I bought on ebay, and that was a big fat failure.

What color are you looking for? Amaryllis bulbs come out soon but mostly for Christmas i.e the red ones and red striped ones etc. You might be able to find some on clearance as they are not blooming right now. They might be another color left over from Easter. A lot of fans go to this website. I have put you on the page with Apple Blossom, as it is one that I have to share. However, it is not the time to divide. I will do that when they are dormant. You can contact me then. I might have a few to share.

Seeds work. But they take forever. A lot longer than I have to wait! My flowers put out seeds and reseed in my yard. But I think you will be happier growing from the bulb. If you are not in any hurry. Buy them at Christmas after Christmas for best price. Typically, all amaryllis bloom in Texas early spring and will naturalize here.
