A close friend was recently diagnosed with cancer and has begun going through chemo. Her finances are very tight and is horrified about loosing her hair. Can anyone recommend a place who makes wigs? What are the pros and cons of human hair vs synthetic? My wife and I are going to buy her the wig so what price range will we be looking at? We are wanting to provider her something that is good quality so she can go out into public and still be confident.

There used to be a wig place down 1960, called Dyanne's Wigs. They had both for cancer patients. Human hair is the best looking.

Does she have insurance? Many times insurance will help with the cost. You want her to go to a place that specializes in wigs for chemo patients. The style and fit are different than fitting just a person who wants a wig but has their own hair underneath.
This is one of the best, in my opinion:

Artemis

Also Gayla wigs in The Woodlands is very highly regarded.

Also the beauty shop at MD anderson provides wigs and fittings, caps and scarfs at no cost.

I took my mother in law to Gayla's wigs and they were amazing. They told us to get a script from the doctor and gave us all the paperwork with the correct verbiage in order to file with insurance. What color is her natural hair? I ask because we would like to donate my MIL's.

Thanks, I had no clue that insurance could cover it. She has tricare, military family.

The script has to be written in very specific terms; I think the verbiage was cranial prosthesis but it's been a while. Gayla's put us in a private room and buzzed her hair per her request and then brought wigs I for her to try that were similar to her hair color and style. They also have hats and scarves there. They gave us all the paperwork we needed to bring to the doctor . They are amazing!

Yes, Gayla's will go ahead if requested and remove the hair so she doesn't have the trauma of seeing her hair go bit by bit or clump by clump. For many that is one less emotional step to have to face and they make the whole process much less traumatizing.
