What do all the mattress stores do with the old mattresses they pick up? I know there are some companies that refurbish old mattresses - we have a mattress to get rid of, trying to find a recycling center for it.

Actually, they throw them away. Texas law does not allow used mattresses to be sold. The only "used" mattresses that can be sold are demo's.

I don't think I could sleep on a refurbished mattress. What's there to refurbish? Certainly not the fabric. And springs give way. The frame?

Mattresses in Texas are not refurbished they are thrown away. Only demo beds are sold as is.

Refurbished mattresses?! That is as disgusting and unsanitary as buying used undies from Goodwill!

That's why they are not refurbished in Texas.
