Very interesting read. Ever wonder why people lie and continue to lie and even manipulate others more and more?

liars and the brain science behind it

TinktheSprite --- 7 years ago -

I have trouble lying. I have trouble with liars.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 7 years ago -

I know people who are the best liars, because once they say it, they believe it- I think those are the scariest-

Saturn --- 7 years ago -

It's easier to simply tell the truth, then you don't have to remember the lies you told.

Apparently the amygdala in the brain is easily trained to extinguish shame and guilt. This came up after I saw where 3 women FAKED their own abductions, claiming they were abducted, held hostage and assaulted. They weren't even related cases. And the question arose, how can anyone LIE like that and concoct such an extreme and detailed lie...with no conscience? And that's how and why they do it. Lying does not bother them bc they have been lying a loooong time.

You're missing the obvious, here- liars are emotionally invested in their lies- they can't or don't want to see their reality, because it makes them have to face things that don't flatter them.

How did I not say that's? LOL

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 7 years ago -

You did, Sifi! lol!

SiFi,

I'm neither a Psychologist, nor a Psychiatrist, but I think in your example those people are looking for some sort of attention and will concoct incredibly bizarre stories / lies to get it.

I believe that it's a behavioral disorder that developed very early in their lives.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 7 years ago -

Yes you are right! There is a component of attention tied to that behavior. They had a psychiatrist interview them and he concluded as much.
