Would you report it or not?

I?ve thought about reporting something similar but t it feels kinda petty to do it...I have a friend who is retired military and is collecting disability that he doesn?t deserve...I wouldn?t have a problem with it really except he makes a big deal about other people mooching and living off the government.

I am having trouble with "is it petty?" Or "is it my responsibility as a citizen?"

I would be VERY careful about reporting anything like that because some disabilities are difficult to detect and there may be more going on than you know. Also, who all will your decision effect? This person's spouse, children, etc? What if they do qualify and you report them? Will that action make their life a living hell because they are reported and investigated? Not sure what agency is in charge of disability fraud but I do know that when you get the government involved in anything the situation often ends up worse than the problem you were trying to solve to begin with.

If you are absolutely sure, I would look at it this way, if someone is collecting what they don't actually deserve, that is taking money out of the system that could be helping someone that really needs it.

I know the person has a disability but not for sure if it mental, physical. He is an adult who lives with his dad. He has a shadetree mechanic business going complete with business cards. He was bragging last weekend about how much money he was making and building a customer base. He is out there almost every single day, rain or shine.

I can see both sides of the situation here and I do agree about getting the government involved. Social security was created to help and I hear about social security running out and wonder if, as a taxpayer, do I have a responsibility to speak out.
