That owner is a little weasel! So much for letting us in to check out our unit with our own eyes. ugh!

Peeking Boo --- 11 years ago -

Get your insurance agent/adjuster on scene, some of them have been allowed on.

Sadie --- 11 years ago -

This just seems so wrong!! I thought the article said they were not letting any adjusters in the lot. THEY ARE ALREADY demoing the place!!

Sadie --- 11 years ago -

Our RV has front damage but we don't know what else!! We can't get in to see it. I can not imagine the people who lost everything can't even look for a scrap to save!!!

JustAskin' --- 11 years ago -

It really sounds fishy, like the owner had something to hide about the arson in the first place!

Peeking Boo --- 11 years ago -

They are not demo'ing anything. The only thing going in dumpsters is building materials. I've spent many hours today watching them and talked to the people from the cleanup crew.

They are removing building materials from destroyed D and F, moving intact items to the covered area between D & C, and they plan on fencing off the RV & D200 sections so people can be let onsite. All the burned vehicles and rv's and such are goign to be left in place behind a fence for insurance people.

There are a crazy amount of rumors flying and emotions are inflating a lot of stories. Everyone I've talked to inside and outside the gate have been very helpful.

Is there anyone here that was at the facility around 4?

Sadie --- 11 years ago -

Does ANYONE know what we can do!!

Sadie --- 11 years ago -

Oh so I guess your the only one going up there?

Peeking Boo --- 11 years ago -

Does ANYONE know what we can do!!

I was told this afternoon that power should be restored by tomorrow (if not tonight), the crews are working through the night to pull off the roofs and clear the area of building debris, and the fences should be put up tomorrow. So, hopefully tomorrow or Thursday people will be allowed on.

I cannot stress enough to call the insurance people and have the adjusters do the talking at the gate.

Also, there was a guy from Ch11 there this afternoon doing interviews and taking all kinds of video, including one of the dumpster that was hauled off. Hopefully he will have a story soon.

Peeking Boo --- 11 years ago -

Me? I'm not sure what you are asking. There have been lots of people there each time I've gone by. I was there yesterday, this morning, and this afternoon. I have seen a lot of the same people each time. I'm curious if anyone here is who I've had conversations with.

AngieKaye --- 11 years ago -

I think they dont want to be sued if you go in there and get hurt. I am sure their attorneys and insurance are telling them to do this.

Sadie --- 11 years ago -

Your right emotions are high. I am done with this discussion I know what I know and that's what I will go by. I rather be overly concerned than trusting a business person I know nothing about. Who is rude! Who is concerned about his lost buildings instead of being compassionate for those who lost stuff that can not be rebuilt.... And that is where I will leave this.

JustAskin' --- 11 years ago -

It's supposed to rain, and rain a lot tonight through Thursday. Will the owner be responsible for anything that wasn't ruin by the fire, but ruined by the rain because he wouldn't let people retrieve their things?

I'm an so sorry for all of you that have lost things and can't even salvage what you can.

Sadie --- 11 years ago -

There are some units with water damage from fighting the fire that have just been sitting... Mildew and mold when it could have been taken out and salvaged. Now rain too!!!

Peeking Boo --- 11 years ago -

Sadie, I know what you are saying about trusting the owner. I've heard all kinds of things will standing outside the gate chatting. I have not talked to Ray myself, only to Michael and Beth. I have talked to several security guards and crew members.

One guy is so bothered by how the owner is acting he is handing out his name, phone number, and home address to people.

The cleanup crews are professionals. They are not going to purposely destroy anyone's stuff, but they have to use the backhoe to get the large roof pieces out from the middle of things. When they find something that is even slightly recognizable and in tact enough to move, they take it to the covered area.

There were many business owners there trying to get their computers just so they could work. It took them all day, but they were able to get them eventually.

Ch11 has a lot of video of his antics so hopefully they'll air or share them for everyone's claim benefit.

Anyway, I hope everyone gets in soon to at least get closure on what was lost or be able to see what survived. I've never seen a disaster like this and it was pretty overwhelming. The level of destruction in front of me made me sick :(

I learned a lot from my adjuster today and if he were to do all the things people are saying he's thinking about doing, he'd be in worse shape than he is now. He can't declare the complex a disaster zone and bulldoze it. He can't pick through peoples stuff and decide what is salvageable, he can't keep you off property for no reason.

He CAN keep you off the property until the destroyed areas are at least secure from people wandering around.

BCRC --- 11 years ago -

Just to clear this up, I went by there after dark this evening. There was no one working to restore power or continue trying to make things safe. It is pitch black. The only two people that I saw there were the two security guards, one of which told me to be there at 9 am tomorrow morning because the owner would start letting people back. I don't know if he knows what he is talking about or not, but I know that I will be up there to see for myself. I have had several encounters with the owner and I am afraid that he is being given much more credit than he deserves. I have no problems with his employees, but he has lied from the very beginning about who he is and has been down right disrespectful, and I don't trust anything that he says or does. I don't care what people say about him...my opinion of him comes from my encounters with him.

Do you think the fire was a possible inside job? I have no idea, but after reading ya'lls comments on this thread and the other thread that;s the impression i get. Prayers to everyone who lost stuff up there. I hope its a speedy process to get it resolved soon

I hope this might be somewhat helpful to everyone

Mandy --- 11 years ago -

I can tell you our previous personal experience with the owner. We moved out back in April, had two units with almost our entire house in there while we closed on our new house. They charged us $75 when our moving truck followed us out of the property. We called and explained that we didnt want to give a bunch of strangers our code, but all we got was, "Sorry, if someone follows you out, we charge you $75." We will never have anything to do with that company again!!!

I hope everyone gets some answers soon. We also had our camper there, right in the back where it started. Praying for all!!

BCRC --- 11 years ago -

He thinks that he is going to be charging a lot of people rent come Nov. 1st. We never gave him our credit card number as I have always gone in and paid, however, I know a lot of people have either cancelled their credit cards, or told their banks that no charges from this place should be processed. It's sad that some of us have had to go to those extremes. I know we were in the D-200's, three doors from the vehicle section. My husband says it's gone, because he was there that day with the Fire Department. I just want to see if there is anything that can be salvaged, and if so, let my insurance company know. I don't want to be dwelling on this for the next few weeks because he's being a jerk (the nicest way I can say it). Prayers for everyone else waiting to inspect the damage too. We'll see what happens today.

Peeking Boo --- 11 years ago -

Good luck to anyone going down today. I'm taking a day off until I know it's open.

I suppose they didn't get much work done without the power restored. Hopefully that is being worked on now.

MandyD --- 11 years ago -

Same here as far as wanting just some sort of closure to see what is left if anything at all. I don't hold my breath at anything this owner says though... Husband went by this morning and of course same story as yesterday...come back at 11:30. Doesn't look like anyone working on power either. My husband handed out the owners name and phone number on Monday afternoon to a few people and I DO know where he lives. It is public information on HCAD but we wouldn't hand that out. What good would that do! His number and name should be given out though in my opinion.

BCRC --- 11 years ago -

This has class action written all over it.

AllieK --- 11 years ago -

No one has gotten in yet? I am working so haven't tried.

MandyD --- 11 years ago -

No he hasn't let anyone in yet. From the video and article posted yesterday it sounds like a few that have businesses there have been able to get at least their computers but I don't think he even allowed them physically in.

FabFive --- 11 years ago -

You guys need to group together and retain an attorney. I am not an attorney but I do believe what he is doing is wrong. If you don't group together it will br easier for him to continue to be a weasel. It goes without saying that your attorney should be top notch and cold as steel.

Game Kraze --- 11 years ago -

We had lost our Business in this blaze. I have taken many photos and today found that the barrier wall on the north side on Sunday evening was standing and today took pictures and the wall is now completely knocked down. What's this guy thinking.

I agree! That is the only way these people will get to see if their stuff is ok.

So sorry for all that had storage there. I know how painful it must be to have everything gone. The owner needs to let people in so they can have closure.

Jadstir --- 11 years ago -

How do we find out exactly which units were totally destroyed in the fire? I had a unit in D224, how do I find out if I have anything left to pickup? Does anyone know when we can pickup our items?

RW19 --- 11 years ago -

I just drove by there about 20 minutes ago and there was a large group of people standing outside the office. There was a truck and an SUV in front of the gate to get back to the units.

Jadstir --- 11 years ago -

I heard people in the neighborhood where I live telling people that there was a website with information on the exact units destroyed completely and which ones only had damage. Plus, they were scheduling times for you to pickup your items, but I can't find the site. The lady who was telling others was bombarded with questions that I finally left to try and find it on my own.

Polly Ester --- 11 years ago -

What a nightmare for those involved. It is really a PR lesson in what not to do.

Even if getting in right now is not feasible, for whatever reason, he should have had a meeting inviting everyone involved and told them exactly what is going on, what steps are being taken to protect what is left of your possessions, when exactly you can go in, and what they can provide your insurance at the present time in order to start the ball rolling. There are plenty of local meeting rooms where a gathering could have been held.

By with holding information and the apparent general apathetic attitude the owner has now taken he has created all kinds of problems. What would have been understanding (even if distressed) clients there are now mad, hurt and confused customers along with a whole community observing the aftermath that will never want to trust this storage facility with their property. Even if they are to reopen, they are ruining their reputation in the court of public opinion and will probably go out of business. I would surely never use them after this.

I just checked the site and here's an update

http://www.metrokingwood.com/

They are idiots! They knew the rain was coming. Terrible how they've handled this! Even their update comes across uncaring.

nice they are taking up donations.

nice they are taking up donations.

I can't even get the button to click that is there if you want to help victims. Does it even work? At this point, I wouldn't trust it anyway.

Jules71 --- 11 years ago -

Thanks Hissy! I'm on my phone and can't link apparently.

AllieK --- 11 years ago -

Yeah that donation link doesn't work. I've tried clicking many times.

MandyD --- 11 years ago -

Oh my goodness this is just ridiculous!!! I just have no words for the thought process of this person and it is sickening the way he is handling this whole ordeal. It could have been handled in such a different way. Just unreal!!!
