Mandy --- 17 years ago -

I saw him about 2hrs ago with my own two eyes. He was about 6-7 foot long. I have been running across the W Lake Houston bridge for around 4 yrs now, and have never seen one. He was just swimming around about 50 feet off the bridge on the right side of the bridge(if your heading towards KW). So for those of you who swim, ski, and jump off that bridge(my 16 yr old has done this), BEWARE!!! Mandy

RX8LVR --- 17 years ago -

lol... I think there are lots of them in the lake, as in most lakes....

justcat --- 17 years ago -

Awesome...My husband is a Gator...FL that is...

Karen #'s --- 17 years ago -

I would think there would be many in there.

girlsRus --- 17 years ago -

There are quite a few in Lake Houston, lol

TXamanda --- 17 years ago -

my dh and my dad can tell you there are more than just one in Lake Houston!!!LOL

Scottie's Hottie --- 17 years ago -

LOL! I grew up in Huffman and Crosby. I have seen lots and lots of gators in that lake! They have lots of them in Conroe and Livingston too!

Vedette --- 17 years ago -

And snakes too...

allie78 --- 17 years ago -

I once saw one swim right under my friends boat dock in huffman, close to the 1960 bridge. I heard there's alot in the bayou where the lake goes towards new caney.

mothman --- 17 years ago -

you should never have mentioned this. Now joelledrees will try to capture it with a spell and then grind it into a magic powder.

*JR* --- 17 years ago -

There signs at East End park saying to watch your dogs because the alligators will eat them.

allie78 --- 17 years ago -

Where is East End Park?

allie78 --- 17 years ago -

oops, double post

love4bdd --- 17 years ago -

fish too...

TXamanda --- 17 years ago -

fish too... really!!! we have never managed to catch any when we go fishing!!LOL

outermaga --- 17 years ago -

Oh yeah they have been there for years. I grew up one street up from Lake Houston (in the back of Belleau Woods) and ran into a gator or two in the woods many times... scared the crap out of me!

*JR* --- 17 years ago -

allie78, East end park is at the east end of Kingwood Drive. Beautiful and unspoiled.

FFwive --- 17 years ago -

I have been fishing lake houston for a while now and haven't seen one yet. I did see one about 10ft in lake Livingston though that was cool.

FFwive --- 17 years ago -

The boat launch for that park (East end Park) is off Mills branch road. Private boat dock but pretty good fishing in that area

whatchamacallit --- 17 years ago -

Only one?!

allie78 --- 17 years ago -

East end park is at the east end of Kingwood Drive. Beautiful and unspoiled Thanks JR. I'll have to check it out.

Pratt --- 17 years ago -

I always wondered if there were any alligators in LH. Being from Louisiana, I am very glad to see them here. You know what is one of their favorite foods? Snakes. I will take an alligator over a snake any day. Growing up hunting and fishing in the swamps of Louisiana, all of my encounters with alligators have been just fine. They are not aggressive and usually run away. The are certainly alot easier to see. The stories of attacks are overblown. Snakes? That is another story. Can't stand them. If you are looking for an alligator, the best way to see one is at night. Get a strong spotlight, or carlight, and look out into the water. If you see a pair of red dots over the water, that are the alligator's eyes. The further the distance apart the red dots are, the larger the alligator.

allie78 --- 17 years ago -

Is it a private dock for the residents back there? Can Kings Point residents use it?

Goober Garfield --- 17 years ago -

I lived on Lake Houston for 7 years and never saw one. We jetskied and kayaked all over the San Jacinto and Luce Bayou, as well as the lake. Saw plenty of water moccasins though. Also saw lots of nutria rats and some beavers.

Fin and Feather --- 17 years ago -

You want to find out how many are around shine a spotlight at night and count the red eyes. I can’t tell you how many times we have gone out scouting in the day and seen none, only to return at 3am and appear surrounded. We know they can and will attack, but I’ve never heard of one attacking someone while swimming

Flower Child --- 17 years ago -

My husband sees them on Lake Houston all the time (he grew up here as well). Not even my baby toe will go in that water and I better never hear of him letting my boys swim in there either. I'm a Yankee from Ohio and we just don't do gators. Scary!

newvahner --- 17 years ago -

We have spent most weekends and many evenings on lake houston these last 8 years. I saw my first gator just 2 years ago. Last summer we weren't out as much but saw a gator nearly EVERY time we went out. Once Right on the lake, I took a pic - I'll have to look cause he was 8-10 feet. I would say we've seen at least several DOZEN. They have never bothered anyone though. Mind you we spend more time on the river than the lake!

Katie D. --- 17 years ago -

Yep, I can't BELIEVE my parents let me going water skiing in Lake Houston when I was growing up! LOL! I quit when I had a water moccasin coming straight towards me when I dropped from skiing one time. That was the last time I ever got in that water.

Goober Garfield --- 17 years ago -

I quit skiing and tubing on Lake Houston when I had a kid fall off a tube. We were in the middle of the lake just south of the bridge. The child's dad jumped out into the "deep" water to assist and that's when we found out the water only came to the dad's waist. He wasn't a tall man either. If you follow the channel, you can safely play on the Lake. If you're just running around the open water, you're better to stay in the boat.

Buttercup:) --- 17 years ago -

I have been fishing lake houston for a while now and haven't seen one yet. I did see one about 10ft in lake Livingston though that was cool. MY DH has caught a few while fishing

yes i did - I keep bouncing around between 2 or 3 different sites. It can get confusing I guess. Maybe I should just stay a lurker You are fast - I deleted it only seconds after I did that

R.E.B. --- 17 years ago -

Bull sharks have been known to swim up the Trinity River as far as Lake Livingston Dam. I bet they have gone up the San Jacinto River as far as the Lake Houston Dam.

Andromeda --- 8 years ago -

Pretty ridiculous considering it is their native habitat. It's not really a "lake" it's a dammed river. The entire Houston region is in fact a swamp. It's nasty.

SoupIsGoodFood --- 8 years ago -

Thanks for that timely update.

Zapper009 --- 8 years ago -

My spouse and myself saw 1 about 6 months ago - from the bridge near Zammitti's - about 6 feet long. Just a little baby...

Sharticus --- 8 years ago -

A little four footer took up residence a few summers ago in the drainage canal that's perpendicular to Mills Branch and dead ends into the park. The one by the big tank. Houses are all along both sides of the canal and kids and dogs play there regularly. Big enough to bite a paw off. It was there for about two months then disappeared.

My 3 and Me --- 8 years ago -

There was one living in the pond at the entrance to Summerwood a couple of years ago
