Okay, my husband refuses to put up the fence without the back neighbor contributing to the cost. However, there are two dogs (one of which is a pit bull) who are very aggressive. The pit bull bit my neighbor's 12 year old son when they got loose after the hurricane. Then it charged me a week later when we returned home and I didn't know it was back there. (Luckily had a broom to push it away with) the owner was watching and didn't say a word or call off the dog. The mother of dog owner came over and basically said that she isn't helping fix the fence and to keep our dog from pooping in her yard. ??? Everytime they let their dogs out they are at my living room window barking and growling at us like mad b/c they can see us through the window and the owner leaves them out there for like and hour! I'm gonna fix the fence myself if I have to, but this dog is out of control! What would you do? Tell them something? Call animal control? Mind your own business and put up the fence?

cwangel --- 10 years ago -

I would call animal control and see what they say. Have you reported the dog to them yet?

BaylorMom --- 10 years ago -

You could call animal control except is you let your dog out they might call on your dog. You probably are going to have to fix the fence yourself for your own protection. After you fix the fence if they get out I would call animal control on them to pick up the dog. If the dog as already bitten someone, didn't they report that. We use to have a neighbor's pitt bull that would get out and chase us. It finally bit someone and animal control finally picked it up.

Punisher --- 10 years ago -

Tell them to chain their dog and if they don't you will be forced to defend yourself. A good pitchfork or even a shovel should suffice.

GCan --- 10 years ago -

The dog owner is responsible for securing that dog and making sure it doesn't get into a neighbor's yard. I don't think it matters if there's suppose to be a fence or not. So if the dog comes over, I would call Animal Control. By the same token, you will need to make sure you're dog is secure also or you'll risk them calling Animal Control out on your dog as well.

We called the cops a little over a week ago. We had some friends over and were trying to get a stump out. We'd left the gate open and the guys were resting in the garage out front while I ran to the store with my girls for some snacks, came back and had to stay in the car b/c the dogs were in my driveway charging everyone in the garage. My husband got his OC spray (like pepper spray) and gave them a few sprays and they stayed back but wouldn't stop growling or go away! cops came and said they'd talk to them about not letting the dog out off leash. These people obviously don't care! And my neighbor whose son was bitten didn't report it!

TxSuperMom --- 10 years ago -

I would first fix the fence. I agree it should be partly their expense also, but they have already said no to helping. Then if the dog gets out again, then I would call animal control and notify them that the dog HAS bitten a child before. Better to protect yourself than risk injury because of the cost of a fence. Medical bills could far outweigh the cost of a fence if the matter isn't taken care of, JMO. Good luck!

RX8LVR --- 10 years ago -

BS, give me a break. If there was a freaking dog threatening my life or my kids, I would shoot it dead right in front of the owner! You've already called the police, so now I don't see that you really have an option.... You shouldn't have to put up a fence!!!!

RX8LVR --- 10 years ago -

Medical bills Medical Bills - how about a funeral expense? We're talking about killer dogs here. This is ridiculous.

asileiram --- 10 years ago -

Tell them to chain their dog and if they don't you will be forced to defend yourself. A good pitchfork or even a shovel should suffice This is what the cop said in not so entertaining words... just don't know if I could :0(

I Kissed Frogs --- 10 years ago -

Take pictures of them the next time they are barking at your living room windows. Then you will have proof they are coming aggressively on your land. Also HOA might be able to send them a letter.

TxSuperMom --- 10 years ago -

I agree about not having to put up a fence, but you also have to take into account that they have to LIVE there, next door. If you shoot their dog, you are opening the door for retaliation. If they already could care less about the viciousness of their dog, they obviously would not be understanding if they find their dog shot dead.

RX8LVR --- 10 years ago -

just don't know if I could :0( then find someone who will. A vicious dog in your back yard and garage is serious and shouldn't be taken lightly....

kuca --- 10 years ago -

I'd put up the fence but make sure to put obnoxious graffiti all on the side that will be facing them(LOL)...

cwangel --- 10 years ago -

This is what the cop said in not so entertaining words... just don't know if I could :0( My dh has been on many calls for vicious dogs and he's told people before, if you have to protect yourself, then do it!

RX8LVR --- 10 years ago -

you are opening the door for retaliation. They are already retaliating!!! Shoot the dog and then shoot them when they trespass. JMO. Let them know you are not screwing around when it comes to the safety of your children...

onlygirl --- 10 years ago -

If there was a freaking dog threatening my life or my kids, I would shoot it dead right in front of the owner! You've already called the police, so now I don't see that you really have an option.... You shouldn't have to put up a fence!!!! My thoughts exactly!

RX8LVR --- 10 years ago -

if you have to protect yourself, then do it! seems like a no brainer to me.

Unichic™ --- 10 years ago -

You've already called the police, so now I don't see that you really have an option.... You shouldn't have to put up a fence!!!! I don't know if I would go that far with the dogs, but I would certainly let my neighbors know that if their dogs came on my property one more time, and I had to sit in my car fearing the repercussions of getting out, that I would threaten to shoot them. That's bloody ridiculous!

RX8LVR --- 10 years ago -

That's bloody ridiculous! Uni - I realize you are trying to be polite here, but we're not talking about a lap dog, we're talking about large, already aggrivated dogs with ignornant owners. This is a very dangerous situation and I am sorry, but no person should ever fear getting out of their owne vehicle in their own driveway. SHOOT THE DOGS - YOU'VE ALREADY CALLED THE POLICE!!!

JET --- 10 years ago -

I agree with RX8LVR, if you have a child and the dogs are constantly loose in your back yard., warn the neighbor. Advise him to 1. help put up the fence. or 2. you'll shoot te dog next time it charges. You could use a pellet gun on normally any dog but with a pit bull, you might just piss it off and then it will charge you. I know you might not like it, but would you risk your childs life for the sake of the dog's? sounds like your ignorant neighbor's would!

Punisher --- 10 years ago -

just don't know if I could :0( I love dogs but if it's between my kids and the dog, the dog goes down every time.

outermaga --- 10 years ago -

Taser gun?

cwangel --- 10 years ago -

I love dogs but if it's between my kids and the dog, the dog goes down every time. My thoughts exactly!

momof5 --- 10 years ago -

Okay, if a fence was going to keep my family safe from vicious animals, we'd foot the bill!!!! I'm not understanding the logic here, because if you have little kids, and the dogs gets ahold of them, the dog is gonna win. I understand standing on principle, but not at the cost of my family's safety.

outermaga --- 10 years ago -

I love dogs but if it's between my kids and the dog, the dog goes down every time. I agree 1000%.

Unichic™ --- 10 years ago -

Ya, I see what you are saying, but I would at least give them the opportunity to fix the issue before I just killed them. Man, a crappy situation for sure.

Yosamitesa --- 10 years ago -

get a pellet gun and shoot it in the rear or on the nose. It will stun them and they may take off crying. Then you don't have to feel bad about killing it.

momof5 --- 10 years ago -

BTW, we have a friend whose daughter was viciously attacked by a pit bull, it took her nose off basically, so not only does she have permanent scars, the medical bills were astronomical. Much more expensive than a fence. Reconstructive surgery for something that could have been prevented...it's a horrible thing to live with.

asileiram --- 10 years ago -

I don't let my kids in the back yard at all anymore, we make sure the gate is locked and I put up an extra chicken wire fence to close off the side of the house so they can't come growl at us by our dining room window while we eat or have access to the gate to get out again! You all are right, animal control is the way to go! And I will keep my dog in and take him out front from now on. Good ideas, thanks!

asileiram --- 10 years ago -

I'd put up the fence but make sure to put obnoxious graffiti all on the side that will be facing them(LOL)... That's a great idea! LOL!!!

Punisher --- 10 years ago -

You have to take back your yard. How hard would it be for them to chain the damn dogs?

asileiram --- 10 years ago -

Now, this is the clencher. When the lady came over to tell us she was tired of cleaning up our dog's 'big poo', she said she loves her dog and is sorry that they bit the boy next door, but she had a home invasion 3 years ago and is very scared. Obviously, if she thinks a vicious pitbull is gonna stop someone with a gun and enough balls to come for a home invasion, then she doesn't understand reason. This is what I'm working with.

Yosamitesa --- 10 years ago -

We have a temporary fence up to keep our dogs in the yard. We have a runner, so we put up a skyline (got it from petsmart for like $30) and we put him on it. Works great...

I am me! --- 10 years ago -

I didn't read all of this but being the owner of 2 "vicious" dogs. If I were your neighbor I would appreciate something like you coming and talking to me and telling me on this day you are going to fix the fence and could I please keep the dogs inside during that time. BTW my dogs arent vicious they are just looked at that way. I have 2 dobermans and they scare people lol. They are the sweetest big ole lap dogs in the world!

asileiram --- 10 years ago -

I have 2 dobermans and they scare people lol. Awwwww, I've always wanted one of those! Anyway,... We tried to go over 3 times after the hurricane. 3 TIMES Noone would ever answer the door and we knew they were home b/c we would wait until they let the dogs out then let them back in and race around the block to knock. Then this lady comes over to complain about my dog's poo!? What the heck? The entire situation is so annoying.

asileiram --- 10 years ago -

a skyline (got it from petsmart for like $30) and we put him on it. Works great... that sounds cool, but my dog goes outside, craps n pees, then rings to come in. he hates to be outside.

Punisher --- 10 years ago -

stampin' gal --- 10 years ago -

i would wait until they let their dog in your yard.....then i would open my gate and let the dog out and shut it. Then call animal control/police HYSTERICALLY crying that a vicious pit bull is on the loose trying to bite your small children. But, that's just me.....

asileiram --- 10 years ago -

LMBO, punisher! That would be hilarious!
