Setta --- 14 years ago -

My husband was out of work for going on two years. He looked and looked and to no avail, he became very VERY depressed and discouraged. He felt there was NO hope out there for "him", that the whole world had turned their backs on him, no degree, older, only worked basically for one company most of his life...like he became invisible.

Recently, three weeks ago, he was hired in a new job. It's the perfect job for him/us/our family, "however" the money is half of his previous salary, and it's making it difficult to meet our bills, but we're meeting them and I am grateful.

With that time we went through, came such loss of spirit, happiness, joy, and we fought hard to keep each other, because, believe me, when you can't pay your bills almost "at all" for almost a year and you fight constantly about things, it's really a true test of true love and endurance for a man and wife, or significant other.

Because of that experience, and praying we don't ever have to go through that again, I wanted to start this thread...for one to thank everyone that ever prayed for us, helped us with job tips and kept their ears open for us, and that were just kind through the most difficult time ever for us. The listening ears, the kind words, the hugs, those that took me to lunch to just hang out and make me laugh...you guys are PRICELESS to me...you were God's tools in my life when I needed them most.

Now, I would like to invite anyone that may be going through that same thing, or any other issue as well, to post about it here.

I want to print it out, put it on my frig and pray over each need, every day and hopefully hear good reports from them all soon, of new jobs, restored relationships or restored faith. I will stand in prayer and faith for anyone that asks me to on this thread and will also take these needs to church and without names (God knows who you are), we will pray over them.

Feel free to post your needs...not only will I (and I'm sure many other KU'ers will) pray for them, but state what sort of job you or your spouse is seeking and you never know when one of us might hear of that very thing looking for someone!

rednecktek --- 14 years ago -

you never mentioned the type of work he was doing, without that info, might be hard for any possible folks to reply if they might know of gigs in the area, less prayers, more facts.

Kingwood Pressure Washing --- 14 years ago -

I understand exactly what he was going through...so much that I had to start my own company. I wish him luck in his new job and to your family.

Are referring to my post? My husband found a job...this is for those that are still seeking. Maybe you were referring to the one that bumped this thread after me?

Also rednecktek...just so you know, my husband and I had been out of church for that year almost and had everything but stopped praying altogether out of so much discouragement. It was when we started going to church, got prayed for and began to believe and have faith again that the job came in...actually within a week he had "two" great opportunities! Prayer works. Of course putting details out there helps those that might can help to better assist....but the prayers will be there on my end when I can do nothing else for someone but pray..I can do that at least. =)

Thank you KPW....much appreciated!

I am so glad you can afford to have Tide with Lavender again. It's a blessing indeed.

doglady --- 14 years ago -

Setta - I sooo hope this new job is a good one that lasts for a very long time! Very happy for ya'll!!! Prayer is an amazing thing!!! :)

Ersatz --- 14 years ago -

Setta I am so grateful for your blessings. Your family is indicative of so many families. May God continue to bless you.

~grandma again~ --- 14 years ago -

I am so thankful prayers have been answered and the glory is given to God. May He continue to bless you, setta. It has been a long haul for you and your family.

LOL...actually I can't "yet" afford it Frio...but hopefully soon we will ;) Honestly the Era at the Dollar General we're finding works pretty good! Add: In all truths Frio...just so ya know ;)...we never requested Tide with Lavender from anyone (never asked for anything ever but prayer from anyone on KU anyway)...someone asked what I used pre-unemployment era and I told them...so that was really all carried way out of context...but it's all good! And being honest, I'd much prefer to stick with Era and be able once again to get a PEDICURE!...OH how I miss those!!!!...ROFL

I DO know that!...and my reason for starting this thread. =) Thanks so much Ersatz.

rednecktek --- 14 years ago -

my point was simply that by stating his work type or skillset on what he was doing may open a door to allow him to do the same type of work somewhere that would not require it at half the rate he is accpeting now. with the market as is, a ton of scummy, and even big business is taking advantage of a lot of folks.

RX8LVR --- 14 years ago -

My step dad is 58 and was recently laid off to allow the company to hire a direct family member to replace him. He is having a very difficult time finding realiable, steady work. He likes warehouse type work and had a CDL and is very reliable if anyone is looking for this type. Setta, thank you for this thread. I don't want to mention his name, but please pray for him!

sweetscreaminmonkey --- 14 years ago -

Setta, i am so happy your Dh found something.. i know it is tough out there..

just an FYI for people that are looking.. do not be afraid of temp work.. there are a lot of people that will not do it but i can tell you from experience ( mine and bf) we both found our permanant jobs through a temp agency.. i worked here as a temp for a yr before being hired
bf worked as a temp was laid off then called back 5 weeks later and offered a full time job with the company that laid him off.

also for the men.. contract work is good if you have the skills.. it pays really well.. there is no guarantee of the time on the job but a lot of time the money you get makes up for it.

We will definitely pray for him RX8....you got it! We'll also keep an ear open for him. Has he checked into the Between Jobs Ministry in Spring?...that is an excellent place to put some feelers out and meet people to network. Also, there is a catholic church KW, St. Martha's I believe, that has a precious ministry to help people find jobs. They do resume review and all that goes with that too and network to help each other find jobs...all denominations are welcome there too or even if one isn't a church goer of course.

REDNECKTECH....I appreciate your suggestions!...thanks. Actually though DH's new job will have increase with it in a couple of months he was told, and it's really the perfect job for him and for what we had prayed for...just the lower salary to "start" but it will increase and hopefully within a year he'll be back in the same or close to same salary bracket...so all is well =) ADD:...I agree too with what you said about many businesses taking advantage because of the economy and jobs being so scarce...very very true!

Thanks Funmom =)

Prayers go out to you and your family, Setta. I will admit I have not been to church in some time since moving from NJ. I know I need to get back.

I am actually experiencing some of the issues you have just stated in your OP.DH has an amazing skill set but it has been difficult not having anything for these 5 months since we moved here.

He can become real depressed sometimes and I want to help him so much it brings me to tears but I know he has so many skills and it is going to waste.

We are not using unemployment right now, b/c they stated since we up and left Jersey, he is not eligible.

Like I stated in a previous post and it was proven again today, he was screened out because he is not bilingual in Spanish. He is Bilingual in French, but we know that doesn't mean too much here.

Thanks everyone for their feedback and hearing me out and I truly hope to report some good news soon!

susie q --- 14 years ago -

Setta, I'm so glad that things are starting to get better for you, your DH and those JRT's. I remember when you all were going to feed the homeless in Houston all the time, and that was one way you both kept busy. However, I don't know how you guys ever did it.It sounds like your photography business is doing ok, also. You've posted some great portraits. Good luck to both of you.

55andunder --- 14 years ago -

We experienced many of the things Setta you all went through and had it not been for PRAYER and our FAITH! we would never have made it! PRAYER TRULY WORKS! God has blessed us beyond measure and it made us get closer to church and to our walk with God! Never give up your faith or going to church....it does provide peace beyond all understanding!!!!!

victylermom what is your dh's skill set? I have a bunch of french/english speaking folks at my company. We are in software supporting the oil and gas industry. I have several hard to fill positions open for people who not only have the technical skills but also the geological/geoscientist/geophysicist knowledge.

kwdad --- 14 years ago -

Setta, I was in a similar situation as your husband. Laid off, out of work for ten months, and finally took a position where I was underemployed. My advice to anyone is to get employed and to keep looking while at their new job. It has now been almost two years later and I just started a more lucrative position than the job I was laid off from originally. Three men on my street have started new jobs in the last month. It seems things are picking up.

I would also recommend a local group called Between Jobs Ministry that meets every Monday at Kingwood United Methodist Church. I believe St. Martha's has a group as well. This is a great resource for resume building, interviewing and job seeking skills.

Keep the faith and use the time you have to reconnect with your family and God. I know He was at work in my situation.

Sounds to me like he is giving thanks and looking for good stable help. I think this is the perfect thread for Your Kingwood Painter to put this on. I hope you find a few good employees!
