We are hearing scratching in our attic but not seeing anything right off. We first heard it this morning and can't find any place that looks like something could have gotten in.

Any suggestions on a company that deals with this type of thing?

AngieKaye --- 12 years ago -

usually squirrels or rats. Best to call a pest control. ABC does it

I Kissed Frogs --- 12 years ago -

We had a raccoon that would get in from the garage through the breeze way.

Polly Ester --- 12 years ago -

get a broom and hit the ceiling with it several times to try to scare them out. if this is the first time you have heard them, they might move on to a friendlier place.

If you have a breeze way that connects from garage to house, check inside your garage where the breeze way attaches . Even a small opening is enough for racoons to make their way in. We had problems until we finally found the area they were coming in from. DH covered the opening and we haven't had any more problems.

It is getting close to nesting for raccoons. Babies are born in spring. Need to trap asap. If you have female and she gives birth...a lot more complicated to get rid of.

dadof4 --- 12 years ago -

Put a radio up there and turn it on as loud as you can stand it. They will move out on their own.

pm Defcon!!!!! he knows everything to do,and he sometimes even catches them!!!!! he's AWESOME!!!!!

Spinqueen222 --- 12 years ago -

They will leave when it warms up. When they are out close the hole they are using to get in.

Another KU recommended, Wilderness Animal Control, Andre cell 281-961-0131 out of New Caney. He found rats in the my attic...YUK...But he got them out. He found several openings, closed them up and then left one open like a "doggy door" where they could get out but not back in. I can say it happily worked.

You have a hole some where. You have to locate it first! When you do, put a flood light or two up there and a radio as loud as it can be. They will leave. The noise and light have to be on when the racoons are sleeping, day time. Then you must repair the hole. Do all this before she has her babies. Make her want to go away. If she stays up there she will distroy everything in your attic. She will chew on everything and if that includes your ac system that would be very expensive to fix. She will poop and pee on everything. So will her babies. And you will be able to smell it downstairs if it gets out of hand. She will come back to the same place to have her babies year after year. If you trap the racoon you have to take her many miles away from your home before releasing her.

Also, My friend had this problem and to hire someone to get rid of a racoon will cost you at least $1000.00 plus the cost of the repair(fixing the hole, replacing trashed insulation, clean up of the poop and pee, etc.)

Alspaughs sells the live capture traps.

This is where the last raccoon got into our attic. We set a trap but he didn't enter. They always go for the food in the traps. We caught 2 that way last year. I think this one was there only for a night. But he tore the crap out of the thin vent! We closed the hole up.

Not any more...dh just went there on Saturday because we have a visitor too!

Maybe the tractor supply place sells live capture traps???

Rubicon --- 12 years ago -

We got our traps from the tractor supply a few years ago. Good luck!

Semper --- 12 years ago -

Lowe's sells the traps also.

Our raccoon was running around between the upper and lower level and she peed on the recessed lighting in the shower stall and the den. I kept wondering what the funky smell was and then while I was in the bathroom one morning, I heard the trickling and noticed it was coming through the light fixture.

Nuts!! Our neighbours spent over $3000 & still have them & their AC needs repair. Also, once they are captured & released .. They have a radar & come back with a vengeance. I order Shake Away bc we had a problem in our attic. I had a service come out & not be successful, kept the lights on & the radio. Finally, I found this product & so far so good! It's been 2 weeks! Fingers crossed. It's much cheaper & money back guarantee. My kids hated hearing them run around at night & we hope they don't come back. Good luck!

^^^You have to find out where they are coming in and block that, too. If you have a breezeway, that is a popular entrance. Otherwise look for holes torn into your siding, or your chimney if it doesn't have a cap.

When you catch the thing, send it far away into the country, like, 20 miles away if you can. They are territorial and will indeed come back, especially if they have had a litter in your attic. They usually travel in pairs, male and female. If you caught one, look for another. Dog food and peanut butter, actually almost anything works as trap bait.

My neighbor hired someone to trap them. He caught 23 in a month's time. That was a good year for all the neighborhood!
