Who do you guys recommend for pool cleaning? We need pool school too! Thanks!

crazydazey --- 12 years ago -

Definitely Texsun Pools next to Alspaugh. They know what they're doing, they know their chemicals and they will go above and beyond for you if you have any pool problems.

We used Texas Toms for a long time and finally came to realize that they suck.

Texas Toms used to be good but the guy is hardly ever there anymore. We go to Texsun now too. We clean our own pool though. Its super easy with a salt pool.

JDB2 --- 12 years ago -

we have chlorine or salt. Original owners never used salt. We haven't changed it and haven't decided whether we should or not yet.

crazydazey --- 12 years ago -

We don't have salt but have wished we did. I'm told, though, that a salt pool will rust outdoor furniture, umbrella poles, metal stuff. Maybe WWW can say if that's true?

We use Mark Clapp who is the owner of Kingwood Pool Care. He is reasonable and reliable and does a great job! If you have an emergency, he's quick to respond.

NORTHWOODS POOL SUPPLY
281-358-5909

Were formerly on 484...

Nice people and reasonable chemicals

Free testing!!!

My experience has been poor with several of them.

Northwoods charged for chemicals never used and overloaded on chlorine. Too pricy for what they actually did do.

Clear Pool was good in the early years but went downhill. If they showed up, they were in and out in a flash. Didn't clean the pool, just dumped skimmers. Staff seemed questionable too.

Eastex had major superiority attitude. They showed up pretty regular, but the chemicals were never balanced and they burned up our pump - of course didn't take responsibility. They too overloaded chlorine.

Philbry did not show up as scheduled. They got the chemicals right but didn't clean the pool. Rarely ever did the "free lawn service".

I have found its best just to do yourself.

Absolutely true.

Still I would rather have salt over chlorine.

Further to the salt vs. chlorine...

When I had my pool built I opted for the salt system. For the first 3 years, I loved it. Then, in the 4th year, I noticed the rock waterfall and flagstone were deteriorating even though they were sealed. After much research, I found that salt and rocks are a bad combo. Salt is a corrosive; it will damage most metals and some improperly-sealed stone. Still, I kept with the salt. Later that year the salt cell died. Cannot fix, must buy new one. Another 1200.00. I chose to switch to chlorine. I was not being cheap, but rather seeing if it would have any affect on the rocks. Since switching, my pool has been worry free (aside from keeping it balanced as part of maintenance) and have been pleased with the results.

To summarize, having had both, I would stick with straight chlorine. The salts corrosiveness on metals, rocks, flagstone, plastics (yes, your skimmer doors, intakes, etc) is not worth it in my opinion.

I've had both too. Previous house we had a chlorine pool and chose to go with salt. We have travertine around our pool with no issues for 7 years. It is corrosive to metal especially cheaper metals. When we bought our pool furniture we went with metal made sure it had a finish warranty. After 4 years we had an issue and returned all the furniture to chair king and were given full credit towards new furniture. We then bought a new set with a 15 year finish warranty. The cost of chemicals for a chlorine pool verses salt is huge. Our pool stays balanced and clean with minimal interaction from us.

A number of the pool builders are now refusing ot build the salt pools because of the corosion problems. Or if you really want it you can sign a waiver. But, I have been using Indigo Pools for my pool cleaning and he has been great. Clear Pools used to be good but had to drop them as they were not cleaning the pool and spending maybe 5 minutes when they showed up.

RedMulch --- 12 years ago -

I can give you a pool school......lol
and buy yourself an automatic cleaner....Dolphin Deluxe 4 or 5 (difference is 5 has a remote control) Test your own water and remember above all else: NEVER PUT COLORED MULCH NEAR YOUR POOL..

salt or chlorine?

they sucked as soon as tony senior left. the son who is there now and that austin character are worthless. we dumped their sorry butts.

I use Indigo Pools for my pool service. He does a great job, very friendly and I always know what is going on when there is a problem with my system. The owner is Johnny on the spot to fix it. I would recommend you give them a call. 281-713-8180

Thank you all for the feedback. I hired Charlie who is the owner of Blue Horizon pools. He did a great job cleaning up the out of control situation I had and I thought the cost was very reasonable. I went ahead and hired him to handle it going forward. He was referred to me by one of my clients and at this point, we are very happy!

Thanks again for all of the input.

I have a large pool with lots of trees which a former company called the "pool from hell". I have had great service from Clear Pool. The guys are polite and speak English. They have low turnover; I had the same young man for several years. They take a lot of time on my pool.
