Hi. I'm planning to move to Kingwood in the next few months. I'm doing some research on the price of utilities and internet and such. Can anyone tell me what utilities cost for a 1 bedroom apartment in Kingwood? Obviously it varies by personal usage but I'm just trying to get an estimated range.

Also, any recommendations and cost estimations for basic home internet?

Thanks!

Your right, it's going to vary. You will have to chose an electric company. Go to Powertochose.org and put in your zip code and a host of choices will come up. Check out their terms of service as well as rates, they will differ in price sometimes, monthly basic fees or not, etc.

TV and internet will vary but the choice issue is very limited. Whether you can actually have Direct TV / Dish satellite will depend on line of sight of your apt location. If you don't have that, Suddenlink will be the other alternative. They provide cable tv and internet, etc. We have issues here with choice in this area. Your apartment complex will have a list of available companies you can chose from.

Thanks for the feedback. I think maybe I should clarify what Im asking.

I already know which provider I will use for electricity. My question is what do those who live in one bedroom apartments find themselves paying? I've lived in a house for the past several years so I have no idea what a 1 bedroom apartment runs for energy usage.

I'm asking for hard numbers based on people's experience.

And for internet as well. I don't plan on having cable, just internet. So I am wondering what people have found in regards to pricing.

Depends on the age of the apartments because of the efficiency of the air conditioners themselves as well as the windows and insulation of the building. It can swing the cost from 80-300 bucks for a one bedroom.

I think depending what you set your temp at, figure on like 60.00 a month as a base. Rates very as well as where you like to set your temp but that's ball park.

Suddenlink always has deals for new customers and they have a ton of varrying existing rates for existing customers. I pay
Ike $33.00 per month but I have fought price rate hikes and insisted on a good rate as a years long customer. I know people paying much more than I do simply because they didn't protest.

-300 bucks for a one bedroom.

No way, I don't pay that for a 2800 sq. ft home. It should never be that high for a small space like that, ever.

We had a large 3 bedroom APT - electricity rarely exceeded $75 per month.

My mother lives in a one bedroom one the first floor in a 12 year old complex here in KW and pays almost 200 in the summer. The last place she lived was almost 300. during the summer. It happens. Not all places are insulated well.

Electricity in town center apartments was more than out bills in our 5,000sq ft house. Electric heat is a killer.

Woah! Really? Were people home all day? How big was your apt? That seems crazy.

The newer the apartment (or house) the better the insulation, water heater and AC unit. Most newer stuff has more energy efficient appliances.

I pay no more than 80 a month for Electricity...during the winter, I was paying on average 40 a month

I used www.whitefence.com when I moved to the area to compare prices of utilities and cable/satellite. Hope this helps!

And if you have a child/children, you can also use this useful website:

We were in the townhouse at town center. Electric heat and electric water heater. Our home had been an Energy Star home. The townhouse (end unit) felt like it had no insulation.

Please take into account your elevation, and how high up you are in your apartment. A west facing apartment with lots of windows will be hot. While a lower level apartment will be cooler in the summer, it might take more to heat it in the winter. btw Our summers are brutal if you haven't heard!

Power here is ridiculous and it doesn't help being married to a polar bear. 😄 1600 sq ft house our highest was $345 and averages 200 summer 70-80 winter.
