Disturbed after events yesterday. A man came to our home and unfortunately my visiting friends daughter opened the door thinking it was one of the kids playing. When I walked over he asked if we wanted to sell our car ( Im thinking I would not have opened my door for this character and thankful my friends and family are all right there) I answered no and then he immediately asked about the neighbors car. First mistake I made was answering him, BUT caught my snap fast enough and strongly told him that this conversation was weird and to leave immediately. Of course he smiled and bid me good day and snaked off.
Later we found out he stopped by a neighbors house. They had a similar encounter.
Curious if anyone else has seen this guy? 5'7", Hispanic, short hair cut longer on top, older around 30-35 larger jaw may have had acne...in general had an odd look about him, pretty heavy. He clutched his jeans as he walked away and disappeared into the Elm Grove Apartments.

TinktheSprite --- 10 years ago -

When we had our old truck, people use to knock or stop by to see if we wanted to sell.

TheTraveltures --- 10 years ago -

I thought that at first BUT then he immediately turned his attention to another very different vehicle. And our neighbors is a hybrid...all new vehicles not for work and none say for sale. Surely he did not hit the jackpot on one single road and find 3 cars he wanted.

mutton --- 10 years ago -

Still is scarey, are they just checking to see who answers?

AngieKaye --- 10 years ago -

this guy does this alot. We have seen him a few times, buys old junk cars.

mutton --- 10 years ago -

How you know is same guy?

TheTraveltures --- 10 years ago -

he was not up to any good. The police seem to think so. Either he wanted to see who cars belonged too and who is home or just in general trying to reach an empty house. What makes me think it wasn't to see if houses were empty was that the 3 houses we know he stopped at all had 2-3 cars out front.

TheTraveltures --- 10 years ago -

Was he on foot and visiting as late as 830? As I stated before all NEWer cars.

TheTraveltures --- 10 years ago -

There are people who buy old junk cars and they all look like my dad. Rough life but never creepy and make you feel uncomfortable and he drives a truck

AngieKaye --- 10 years ago -

Fits the description of the guy that showed up at our house a few years ago. Should of asked him for a biz card. the one that came by our home gave me one. Think his name was Joey

TheTraveltures --- 10 years ago -

He should have offered one, honestly i dont get freaked out by much and until now have never felt in danger. He practically ran when he saw my husband and then seemed out of it to the neighbor that he visited at 830.
Anyway he was not an old junk car buyer.

AngieKaye --- 10 years ago -

thanks for the info then, we need to be on the look out for each other. The guy I saw was sketchy looking as well. We made him leave as we weren't selling any vehicles.

If he ran into the apartments maybe someone needs to talk to the management office there and give details.

TheTraveltures --- 10 years ago -

I thought about that, thank you for the reinforcement there I always question myself when I am suspicious of someone.

mutton --- 10 years ago -

Better safe...and suspicious lol

OF COURSE he's been to Angie's house and she knows him. Color me surprised!

The KU Investigative News Team should run a special report on this guy.

Dorothy Parker --- 10 years ago -

Sounds like a completely different guy if one is looking to buy old junk cars and giving out a business card.

Lol.

TheTraveltures --- 10 years ago -

Have a date with the range this week and doing our best to at least have a good warning if there ever was an intruder.
I just want to know if anyone else saw him or was visited so we can be proactive. I for one and SICK of the bums walking around our neighborhood. Go be a bum at your own house.

waterfall --- 10 years ago -

The Queen of Elm Grove knows all and sees all. Don't question her, Winning.

;)

So, if this guy came to your house, you must have a junky car in your driveway!

chilihead --- 10 years ago -

Yesterday I was mowing my lawn and a car pulled into my neighbors driveway. The car dropped off a man then drove away. The man rang the doorbell, no one was home, and he went either around back or next door? He was a heavy set guy with a white dress shirt and was carrying a clipboard. That was odd.

Gigix4 --- 10 years ago -

We had the "clip board" dude in BBV about a week ago. Slender build guy - still didn't answer the door.

Who is the clipboard dude?

Quixote --- 10 years ago -

Had a very hard, rough, skin-like-leather W/M character ring the bell Saturday morning (Forest Cove).

He wanted to know if our motor home was for sale. Said he's in construction and "it would be a lot cheaper than hotels".

It was a very strange, disjointed, and uncomfortable encounter. He stood at least 8 feet away the entire time, but appeared intent on looking into the house through the door behind me.

I asked him "Do you see an (expletive) for sale sign?"

He replied that "they" (I didn't see anyone else, nor a vehicle) were cruising garage sales, saw the coach, and just wanted to ask. I backed into the house and watched him walk up the street towards Chestnt Ridge.

Work in Progress --- 10 years ago -

I had a guy stop by a couple weeks ago and ask if the car we had in the driveway was for sale. I only spoke to him through the door. I don't think he was Hispanic though. I seem to recall a sandy haired white guy.

Incidentally, it was a junky car.

I found it really odd though, because we had nothing to indicate the car was for sale. I remember wondering if he was seeing if someone was home.

Gigix4 --- 10 years ago -

Who is the clipboard dude?

I have no idea since I never answer the door. Seems to always be some dude or dudette walking around neighborhoods with a clip board in one hand, ringing doorbells. Probably trying to sell (or buy) something - just my guess.

Winning --- 10 years ago -

There are always notes posted on cars parked at the end of my street or on the main street. They always ask if the owner is interested in selling the car and if so they leave a name and number. I've been seeing it for a few years now so none of the people knocking on doors asking about selling a car sounds far fetched.

Joe Blow --- 10 years ago -

That is why I always answer the door with my hip holster on and my two six guns within.

Photomomof2 --- 10 years ago -

We have notes on my husband's older cars all the time. Literally a knock or note somewhere once every two to three weeks.

Four Pinocchios --- 10 years ago -

Two clean-shaven white guys, both wearing white short-sleeved button down shirts, black pants, black ties, backpacks, and riding bicycles just knocked on my door!!!!!

AAAAAHHHHHHHH!!! Are you okay??!!

smurfalicious --- 10 years ago -

A Hispanic man is a truck drive by our house about a month ago and asked if my husbands car was for sale. I said "No, he drives it to work." It was very weird. Luckily the guy never got out of his truck.

AngieKaye --- 10 years ago -

We had a business card left on our truck sometime last week. Just noticed it. Actually wanna get rid of this old tank too!
