Recycling Services Cancelled in Kingwood
Waste Management cancels subscription service in 15 villages. Get your village to bring recycling back! We can help.

Until now, recycling was on the upswing in Kingwood. Almost half of our village Community Associations (CAs) have regular curbside recycling pick up included in their trash/recycling services for all of their homeowners.

For neighborhoods that currently have subscription services through Waste Management things are changing. A subscription service is one in which individual homeowners pay separately for curbside pick up, even though their CA does not have recycling in their contract. Waste Management is ending all subscription services in Kingwood as of December 1st. While this is frustrating for those of you who subscribe, it also opens the door to bringing in curbside recycling for your entire village.

If you live in one of the communities listed below and would like help in encouraging your CA to add curbside recycling please contact us at Keep Kingwood Green. Encourage all of your neighbors to contact your homeowner?s board and let them know you want recycling.

While there may be a cost increase to add recycling it is usually less than the price of a cup of coffee at Starbucks for weekly curbside pick up. Well worth the additional cost to recycle more than a third of what typically goes to the landfill.

We can go to your homeowner?s association meeting if we are invited by a resident and give a short power point presentation about the benefits of recycling. If you think this would be helpful to your board please contact us.

This is an exciting time for Kingwood and we want all of our neighborhoods to have curbside recycling for everyone! Please call us at 713-206-0558 or email us through our website keepkingwoodgreen.org.

I guess Waste Management isn't as "green" a company as they advertise.

Thank goodness we have coh. We need a second big green can as we over fill ours very 2 weeks. I still have to make trips to the park n ride

Emperor of Kingwood --- 10 years ago -

Good. Recycling is a shame anyway.

I would rather make trips to recycle myself and have backdoor trash service. All of those garbage cans on the curb are an eyesore.

There is quite a bit of incorrect information in that Keep Kingwood Green notice.

This indicates to me that you are part of the problem, not part of the solution. Shameful. I suppose you throw your insulin syringes with the caps off into your kitchen garbage too.

There is quite a bit of incorrect information in that Keep Kingwood Green notice.

Please clarify it then.

We need to RECYCLE more!!!!

I mean, how else can distract ourselves from our lack of REDUCING consumption and not REUSING everything we can?

Good. Recycling is a shame anyway.

I would say it is (mostly) a sham.

I think this is just a way for them to have ca's have recycling included in its contract. The problem is when you only have a few people per street doing it. WM is paying to send a recycle truck up and down every street and they be spending more on gas and personal than they are getting back. By including it in the contract and charging the village as a whole, they are assured to be able to pay for their trucks and personal. I know a few years ago when I talked to them about it, they said they did not have enough people doing it to pay for them to offer it. We have it through them but it's in our contract and I love it. But even if we didn't we still would drive over to the recycle center.

I worked with a guy that worked for waste management at one time and he told me that it all went in the same hole.

Thus the comment that its a shame. Follow the money.

FANCY PANTS --- 10 years ago -

Take your recycle to the park and ride in Kingwood every Saturday and Sunday. We do every week. It is amazing how much we take each week.

Identity Crisis --- 10 years ago -

WM has a state of the art facility for recycling.
The bins are minor when you look at the big picture. To get bent out of shape because they are unattractive is silly.
