Can anyone share with me their experiences with any Kingwood Senior Living Facilities. Pro's, con's, cost factors.

My parents live in Florida and need to move closer. A few I researched in Florida wanted 85,000.00 down payment plus 2,000.00 a month! To me, that is outrageous! Would appreciate any insight you can give.

Brookdale Kingwood! 929 Rockmead.
All places offer the same thing but it comes down to the people who care for the residents and Brookdale Kingwood is the best!!!

Isn't that what they call an oxymoron?!

I'll try to keep this brief but hopefully my comments might help. There are many Senior Care Residences like the one you mentioned in Florida which are turning to the "Buy In"
and with that you have to basically surrender your finances once you sign the dotted line.
We have researched many of the Senior care
Living residences in our area quite extensively over the years. Initially for my father who was in the independent care apartments at the Terrace which is now Brookdale, Kingwood. He lived there for nearly two years. We then moved my MIL from Calif and after initially living in our home she to moved to Brookdale Independant Living. After two years we transitioned her to Brookdale Assisted Living where she is today. There are many complexes here and in the surrounding area but few host the step program of Independant, Assisted, Memory Care. It is difficult to move the Elderly around from place to place if need be for differant levels of care.
Typically in our area the costs are pretty comparable, most of the time there is a basic living expense followed by a personal care expense. This varies on how much assistance a person needs. In our case we have help with administering meds. We have outside help with a bather who has helped from day one but Brookdale has that service but my MIL is stubborn.
They provide transportation, meals, housekeeping, laundry, social activities etc. They are close, convienant and stay in touch with family
We are very happy with Brookdale and I think you could be as well
Good luck

Susan:

Can you give me "numbers" of how much services like the above would cost on a monthly basis? We are dealing with limited funds. This is a huge issue right now. We don't know how much their home in Florida is worth, plus they took out a second mortgage on it.

Thanks in advance.

We pay 3700.00 per month to Brookdale. A studio apt, 3 meals daily, giving meds, laundry and housekeeping
Cable, bathing, medication is seperate from all else

Thanks Susan! Was there an initial fee to get into the facility?

JHMO:

I have been to Emeritus, it is lovely, but the cost factor is out of our budget.

JHMO --- 10 years ago -

Yeah, it's kind of ridiculous =/

Have you checked out the place behind the Randalls at town center? It recently chsnh names but was called Westminster house. They have apts on one side of the property and assisted living on the other. When I was looking for my dad the AL place was very reasonable. But he needed more care than they could provide.

Just a reminder to all that might be approaching their senior time of life ... please research long term care insurance!

The majority of us will, at one time or another, reach that time in our lives that we can no longer care for ourselves and will need a place to live with assistance.

I saw the drain on the family when my parents needed the extra care and couldn't afford the care I felt they deserved and decided I didn't want to put that burden of costs and concerns associated for my care on my child.

Long term insurance comes with premiums that if purchased at younger ages, will not be that expensive but the cost of the premiums increase if you chose to wait until you are older. Once you get into a legitimate insurance program, the premiums do not increase and there is some peace of mind in knowing the majority of long term care will be covered without draining assets.

Just something to keep in mind.

KT.... Go by Brookdale Kingwood and meet with their wonderful sales dept! They are truly compassionate at what they do and what they offer.

K.T. --- 10 years ago -

Thanks All. Brookdale seems to be in high regard. Will check it out as soon as I return from Florida! Wish me luck with the folks!
