Texas Democratic Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee said President Obama has already successfully secured the U.S. border, and objected to the tone of a House border security bill she said militarizes the country.

"The president has spent $108 billion on border security, and we have been successful," Jackson Lee said in a Homeland Security committee markup Wednesday. "Oh we've had our moments, but we have been successful."

Jackson Lee brushed off the recent flood of unaccompanied children on the southern border. "I know we had a disagreement," she said, referring to Republican critics who blamed Obama's policies for the flood of immigrants.

After tens of thousands of Central American children and teens crossed the border illegally last summer, House Speaker John Boehner wrote a letter to Obama saying his policies were directly responsible for the surge, because they led the immigrants to believe they could stay.

The surge reignited the immigration debate, and another surge is expected this summer. But Jackson Lee argued the border is fine, because the border patrol agents were able to safely detain and supervise most of the children. "They had operational control," she said.

jacobson --- 10 years ago -

She's absolutely clueless.

FNHO --- 10 years ago -

So border patrol agents are inept? Ok

Not KU --- 10 years ago -

Districts 23rd, 28th, 15th, and 24th border Texas and Mexico. Rep Sheila Jackson Lee Represents the 18th district. Why is the border her job?

Luckily for the Low informed posters, we all know the Gov Elect Abbott will sit by and do nothing just like the rest of our GOP governors have done next to nothing. Perry put up a wall. What do you people want?

On a side note. Lt. Gov elect. Dan Patrick campaigned he would "keep our borders safe". Call him.

jacobson --- 10 years ago -

Mark, one of the actual responsibilities of the federal government is to protect our borders.

Not KU --- 10 years ago -

John; S.J. Lee is a state gov rep. Don't side step me with your fed gov responsibilities on a state gov slam of a rep that you don't like post. sssuckuh! lol.

Prolix Raconteur --- 10 years ago -

Mark, She Jack sits on the Homeland Security Committee. The border is very much in her wheelhouse.

Prolix Raconteur --- 10 years ago -

That being said, she's absolutely delusional if she really believes the border has been secured.

Not KU --- 10 years ago -

she's absolutely delusional if she really believes the border has been secured.

Ok. She sits on the Homeland security committee, but is delusional? You know this how?

jacobson --- 10 years ago -

You know this how?

Because what she said is not even close to being the truth.

Work in Progress --- 10 years ago -

Mark, to steal a phrase from Dennis Miller, Sheila Jackson Lee would lose a game of hangman to a box of hair.

Prolix Raconteur --- 10 years ago -

It's simple English mark. Try to follow. IF SHE REALLY BELIEVES THE BORDER IS SECURE, SHE IS DELUSIONAL.

More likely she is just spouting more erroneous talking points to gullible simpletons like wannabe musicians on message boards.

Work in Progress --- 10 years ago -

She thought our constitution was 400 years old.

Work in Progress --- 10 years ago -

Remember when she wanted to pay unemployment insurance to working people?

Work in Progress --- 10 years ago -

Remember when she wanted to write executive orders for Obama?

Prolix Raconteur --- 10 years ago -

Or when she proclaimed that the US was the first country to put a man on Mars!!!

She really is pretty stupid.

Work in Progress --- 10 years ago -

Remember when she thought she was a freed slave?

WHAT?

Work in Progress --- 10 years ago -

Remember how she said that today we have two Vietnams, north and south, that live in peace?

Work in Progress --- 10 years ago -

I didn't even catch that! She's in Congress!

Prolix Raconteur --- 10 years ago -

Or when she said the constitution gave her the right as a congresswoman to discriminate against the disabled!

Work in Progress --- 10 years ago -

She probably bought an iPhone 6 because she thought it would raise her IQ by 3.

Jeff --- 10 years ago -

Not only did she say that north and south live in peace but do it side by side ! She's a moron

Not KU --- 10 years ago -

Remember how she said that today we have two Vietnams, north and south, that live in peace?

People often say something they didn'
t mean. Korea or Vietnam. We all make mistakes.

. IF SHE REALLY BELIEVES THE BORDER IS SECURE, SHE IS DELUSIONAL. Says the posta with an opinion, but no facts about homeland security and/or its operations.

Secure. That's a vague term. Are any of us secure when we lock our doors at home? As it stands Gov Perry sent N.G. troops to the border. Combine that with the wall and camera, drone, and man surveillance. Id say were pretty secure.

Delusional: That's a vague term. I'm no physiologist so, I'm not qualified to make that accusation. However I present the following info:

Sheila Jackson Lee is the U.S. Representative for Texas's 18th congressional district, serving since 1995.

Did we notice "serving since 1995"? So the question is. Who's delusional? One would think 20 years service is an achievement. Not a delusion.

ToidBoid --- 10 years ago -

If my memory serves me correctly, SJL was arguing for granite countertops to be installed in a new housing project because the poor needed nice homes too - I know the gals I WORK with were a bit upset as they didn't have granite in their kitchens. . .

Prolix Raconteur --- 10 years ago -

Consider her constituents, mark, and her district. 20 years is no achievement. She's a prime example of why there should be term limits.

Not KU --- 10 years ago -

Consider her constituents, mark, and her district.

Her constituents are no different than you PR or the constituents in your district. They want a rep that represents them. Just like you.

I do agree there should be term limits.

Joe Blow --- 10 years ago -

YAWN at Jacobson.

Work in Progress --- 10 years ago -

ToidBoid, I remember that. It was crown molding too. Neither of which we have in our home. But according to Randy, we are rich, so we should pay for someone poorer to have it.

ToidBoid --- 10 years ago -

The gals at the office were steamed - they said they wanted those things for their homes too - but they couldn't afford it. . . sigh. . .

a751416uu --- 10 years ago -

Unless you build a 50 foot wall that goes 50 ft underground too, I don't know how you keep people with nothing from trying to come to the "Land of Opportunity".

TheGOAT1999 --- 10 years ago -

Can we agree that the vast majority of politicians are just in it for the paycheck (or paychecks, both from the government AND from "under the table" sources) and that we need to overhaul the whole system? Doesn't it seem like there is a ridiculous comment made by a congressperson every single day??? Honestly, it makes me either want to run for office, or run away.

YourMomsOutside --- 10 years ago -

She is a total embarrassment!! I used to live in Garden Oaks which is on the edge of her district. I always voted against her. Even Obama ignores her after his speeches while he walks around afterwards. Michael Berry has a bunch of outtakes of all the stupid things she says. God Save Us!!!

SoupIsGoodFood --- 10 years ago -

Mark and SheJack are two peas in a pod.

Only difference is......... She probably knows how congress works

jacobson --- 10 years ago -

I don't know how you keep people with nothing from trying to come to the "Land of Opportunity"

Securing the border doesn't keep anyone from trying, but it does keep them from succeeding

greaser1952 --- 10 years ago -

Maybe if more of the US citizens who are unemployed would be willing to do the jobs that the people are coming over the border for (which apparently they aren't), we wouldn't need to be as focused on securing it.

jacobson --- 10 years ago -

Lame liberal excuse.

ontheroad678 --- 10 years ago -

Texas Democratic Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee said President Obama has already successfully secured the U.S. border, and objected to the tone of a House border security bill she said militarizes the country.

If she believes this so much, then how about she take a trip to the border, without an armed escort, and talk to the people that live there....sure she find out the truth.

Follow the money....it's really simple.....she wants that money spent in other areas, plain and simple.

smh

SoupIsGoodFood --- 10 years ago -

How anyone can defend the idiocy that is SheJack is beyond me.

Ed Earl --- 10 years ago -

She is an embarressment.
