Is it racist that black-on-black shootings are less news worthy than white-on-black shootings?

Last night in Detroit...

Story highlights

(CNN)Attackers fired semiautomatic weapons at a child's birthday party in Detroit, killing one person and wounding nine others, authorities said.

A 20-year-man died in the Saturday night shooting, CNN affiliate WXYZ reported.

Nine other people -- three women and six men -- suffered injuries, WXYZ said.

It's a "miracle" no child was injured at the party, which was held at a basketball court, Detroit Assistant Police Chief Steve Dolunt told the affiliate.

About 400 people attended the party, but there are no leads so far, and witnesses are not cooperating, Dolunt said.

"There's kids out here. I'm livid. ... There's not any excuse why no one is talking," he told WXYZ. "Man up or woman up, whatever, and tell us what's going on."

Dolunt said police are looking for the owner of an abandoned red car found across the street whose occupants they believe were shot.

Authorities will continue their investigations Sunday.

Black lives only really matter when obamas media can again force their divisive, race baiting agenda onto the people. They won't be happy until their are race wars and they have something big to write about, no matter the cost to the people and our country.

Is the media saying #blacklivessometimesmatter?

[i]"their are"[i] "there are"

I don't understand why the party goers (witnesess) are not being cooperative. There are kids involved. Why hide? Are they in fear? Yes, it is a miracle that no children were not harmed. God himself must have stepped in.

More like, black lives only matter when the media can either make a buck off them or stir some crap up to whip people into a they have another bigger story to report, again making money off them.

Dorothy Parker --- 3 years ago -

It has always been this way.

This isn't an Obama's a society thing.

Black kids are kidnapped, too, but they never get the press coverage like Elizabeth Smart did.

Black women go missing or are killed, and they never get the press like Laci Peterson did.

This has been the way of the media for as long as there's been"the media."

Ya-know, I don't remember last year being this bad in the media. We as a society talk mostly about what the media puts out there. There are so many other crimes that take place and we don't even know about them. White on white crimes hardly ever make the news unless the perp or victim is rich and/or famous. Black on black, sometimes that makes the news same with black on white. But white on black definitely makes country wide news. The media only tells us what they think we need to know. If you really want to know what is happening in our country as far as crimes go, you need to dig deep and I'm not talking about a simple Google. I don't know if I would call it racist but there is definitely something going on in this country that needs to be changed.

All good points. The media is definitely in it for the money. So the amount of controversy surrounding a story is what determines what leads.

But because of this, we have to realize that we aren't viewing reality through our media. We've been sold a "virtual reality" of sorts. This is a problem when we are willing to hurt innocent people over something that isn't even true. It seems like it has gotten worse.

Except that now, these SC families didn't go that virtual reality route. They went the love, kindness, forgiveness route, and it seems to have shaken up the media. THIS is now the story: good conquers evil. Love conquers hate. And forgiveness conquers revenge.

I hope we learn from them.

The term "racist" is now a political football like the term "global warming" and effectively has no meaning anymore. Completely open to one's own interpretation.

@Dread Pirate Roberts,
still don't get your point every life matters. We all should work together to condemn hatred every time.

Black women go missing or are killed, and they never get the press.

Let's be clear, 98% disappear via black males!

Why should that point be important even if it is true, which I don't know. Do you have a link to that as fact?

White women disappear via white males too. Probably the majority of the time. Does it make it less worthy of media attention? Like DP states, it didn't for Elizabeth Smart or Laci Peterson.

Let's just be honest. Certain crimes and tragic stories have more media attractiveness and catch our attention. The media knows this. They play to that. But I don't think the media can be solely blamed for feeding us what we want.

I also don't think it is racism as much as it is our tendency to be more intrigued by news the majority of us can relate to on some level. A bar fight that ends up with a killing in an upscale Galleria area location will get more attention than one that happened in the barrio too.

Elizabeth Smart, Jon Benet, Natalie Holloway, and Lacy Pederson were all picked by the media because of:

1. They were all more attractive than average people, and we love stories about pretty people

2. Their circumstances were all middle class, good family, seemingly perfect worlds that had unimaginable tragedy happen to them.

3. The demographic for media shows like Nancy Grace is middle aged, middle class women.

These stories are more intriguing to that demographic because we relate to the people more than we would relate to the story of a drug deal gone bad, or something.

DVaz --- 3 years ago -

Why should that point be important

FBI Statistics.

BTW, my sister is white while brother in law is black. Half Jamaican and half English. He's disgusted by all this nonsense. He's not a dummy. Unfortunately liberals in America can't add 2+2, let alone comprehend the intricacies of a reality based society.

Pardon me, your epidermis is showing, sir
I couldn't help but note your shade of melanin
I tip my hat to the colorful arrangement
Cause I see the beauty in the tones of our skin

We've gotta come together
And thank the Maker of us all

We're colored people, and we live in a tainted place
We're colored people, and they call us the human race
We've got a history so full of mistakes
And we are colored people who depend on a Holy Grace
A piece of canvas is only the beginning for
It takes on character with every loving stroke
This thing of beauty is the passion of an Artist's heart
By God's design, we are a skin kaleidoscope

We've gotta come together,
Aren't we all human after all?

Ignorance has wronged some races
And vengeance is the Lord's
If we aspire to share this space
Repentance is the cure

Well, just a day in the shoes of a color blind man
Should make it easy for you to see
That these diverse tones do more than cover our bones
As a part of our anatomy
We're colored people, every man, woman, boy, and girl
