I'm putting this out there because I've become very frustrated with people in Kingwood taking their dogs on the green belts without a leash. I live in MB and walk my dog about 5 times a week - always on a leash. At least once a week we are confronted, chased, or need to change our route because of aggressive dogs that are either strays or with their owners but not on a leash. Nearly every owner insists that their dog is friendly, until it tries to take a bite out of my dog as we pass. Please pet owners, walk your dogs on leashes. It's the law and its for their safety as well as the safety of others.

Prolix Raconteur --- 8 years ago -

There's a weird dynamic that occurs between a lot of dogs when one is leashed and one is not. Normally docile dogs can become aggressive due to the leashed dog automatically being put into a defensive position because he's restrained.

MadGirl --- 8 years ago -

Prolix - I hadn't thought of that. I was too busy running :)

Joe Blow --- 8 years ago -

Euthanize all pits.

MadGirl --- 8 years ago -

Joe -I don't blame the dogs - I blame the owners for not being responsible. I love all dogs including pits. They are the sweetest.

mutton --- 8 years ago -

No matter the breed, leash! I agree MadGirl.

Joe Blow --- 8 years ago -

Pits maim and kill. Sorry you all don't deal in facts.

gunsnroses --- 8 years ago -

Those in doubt about the dangers of the pit bull and pit mixes go to www.fatalpitbullattacks.com. Statistics don't lie. Beware of rescue groups offering pits to Siberia families. Due to the strength of their jaws a normal chain link fence or wood privacy fence will NOT contain them.

gunsnroses --- 8 years ago -

Spell check wrote Siberia I meant suburbia. Most insurance companies will not insure a house where a pit bull resides. Too many loose dogs in Kingwood.

andreweggplant --- 8 years ago -

How did walk dogs with a lease escalate to pit bulls? Any dog off a lease can become aggressive towards a dog that is being walked on leash.

Joe Blow --- 8 years ago -

Pits maim and kill.

Thanks for the facts and weblink gunsnroses.

Agreed. Please leash. Small ankle biters
are the worst.

Joe Blow --- 8 years ago -

I'd rather have a small dog nibble on my ankle than a pit decimate my leg.

JuanSequin --- 8 years ago -

Never had a problem with a pit. That being said it is obviously a troublesome breed.

How do insurance companies know what kind of dog a client owns? I don't think in all these years with our State Farm Agent we have ever been asked about what kinds of dogs we've owned by our insurance company.

mutton --- 8 years ago -

Since this thread is in regards to walking ALL breeds on a leash...JUST DO IT!

mamadog53 --- 8 years ago -

My dog behaves better off leash than on. Despite that I always leash him anyway until we get within sight of our house then I let him sprint the last block. I don't want him wandering off the path and picking up poison ivy on his coat because DH is very allergic to it. He has no real interest in other dogs while walking - his mission is to cover as much distance as possible. 🐾

Jpgirl --- 8 years ago -

Our insurance company asked what breed of dogs we had and if our pool had a diving board ( State Farm and Liberty Mutal). We had to provide proof that we had removed our diving board before they would insure us.

As far as leashes - I am so tired of it here in Sand Creek too. 100% of these owners do not have their dogs trained well enough to have control over them. My dogs are in various stages of training- the puppy being a Spaz and my lab mix being almost 100% off lead trained. I never walk them off lead.

mutton --- 8 years ago -

Mama dog, why do you let him spend the last off leash? I have two am trying to leash train. They are great till another comes within sight! If other is on a leash, is a nice training moment. If not, all heck breaks loose cos the one not on a leash goes for them. LEASH people.

mamadog53 --- 8 years ago -

We live on a short block that ends in a cul-de-sac. I always look for kids or other dogs out before I let him go. He is obedience trained and I have good voice control. He likes to run as fast as he can to our front door. He doesn't even chase squirrels that may run across the street. He's that focused. It's sad that there's really nowhere in Kingwood you can let a run or play frisbee.

Isn't there a dog park somewhere in Kingwood?

mutton --- 8 years ago -

Is sad you believe you have the right...I am that focused. Dog parks mama, dog parks. Or some country living. You live in the city, there are laws, and some who respect such...

Jpgirl --- 8 years ago -

Totally agree with Mutton. There is an awesome dog park at Duessen and another off kingwood Dr

Quit putting human emotion onto animals. I've been travelling Germany the las 2 years. Here is what I've learned about dogs in Germany.

They are allowed everywhere- I mean everywhere- restaurants, grocery stores, malls- literally everywhere - every single one of them were on leash- every one of them. All of them were extremely obedient and did not need to be on leash. None of. Them reacted to other people or other dogs. I observed people walk up to each other and start talking and their dogs just simply sat down- none of this "got to get excited - smell each other and lunge at other dogs or humans" stuff.

Guess what else I saw- no strays, and no lost pet signs plastered eveywhere.
The dogs looked well cared for and all of them appeared happy- they wanted to be with their humans and didn't give a rat's butt about running free.
Dogs are not human they are dogs nd they want to do whatever you do.
I want my dogs to be like what I saw in GER. That's why I am training them to be so. I want to walk into a restaurant( not many pet friendly places here) with my dog and enjoy a meal with my dog under the table at my feet- not engaging with other dogs or people.I'd also love to walk anywhere knowing every dog is well mannered, on a leash and not stepping in dog poo - people pick up after their dogs over there- how hard is that????
