Our long time doggie dentist retired and I'm searching for a new one. The vet that took over his practice starts at $800. and goes up depending on what extras are needed. The last time our dog had to visit the dentist the old vet charged $300. and it included 2 extractions and cleaning. And he was board certified. Most vets that do dentals are not. Obviously I want the best care for my dog but the prices have gotten ridiculous. Does anyone know a reasonably priced good vet?

There is a vet in Pearland that my friend goes to. He is a DDS specialist and charges around $120 for teeth cleaning I think? But I don't remember his name?? There's a start for you to research. My GF is out of town for a week.

Maybe this:

He's the guy that took over Dr. Ross' practice. He's the one who starts at $800. according to Yelp reviews. I'll have to call and ask some questions.

If you go with a specialist, the price goes way up. If all you need is a cleaning and possible extractions, many senior veteran dentists can do that. Do you actually need a specialist? Karen Bookout @ Suburbia North in Spring is seasoned and done many many dentals.

I just took mine to Big Thicket Vet in New Caney off FM 1485.

office visit $40
Heartworm test $23
Distemper/Adenovirus/Parvo/Coro $23
Rabies $14
Bordatella $15
Trim Nails $11.50
Dog Dental Grade III (discount in Feb for dental $246.50 -$24.65) $221.85
Surgery Catheter (had growth on foot removed) $36.50
General Surgery per minute (10) $60.00
E collar $6.94
3 Extractions $39.00
Clinadrops $10.48
Previcox (4) $0

Total $501.27

I think that was very reasonable. I got in right away, they looked at her, did the surgery that day and I picked her up later. No long wait in waiting room, they were nice, explained everything well. I would recommend them...

Yikes! That's a good price for all that, and yet still lots of money. Things are just so high's why a lot of people don't get vet care.

General Surgery @$60/min?! I'm in the wrong business!!

That was for a 10 minute surgery the total was $60, so $6 per minute.

Actually I have heard good things about that vet in New Caney. We use one in Conroe. Country Vets are the BEST!

I would always check with Texas State Board to see if a vet has had charges. One mentioned on this thread has and it was my chihuahua who did NOT have "standard of care" and died. FACT?

Why not share the name of the vet, guns so that we don't have to guess and put our dogs in danger?
