TheMasticator --- 12 years ago -

WASHINGTON, April 7, 2013 – Melissa Harris-Perry, an African American professor at Tulane has endorsed the concept of human ownership; by the state.

“We have never invested as much in public education as we should have because we’ve always had a private notion of children, your kid is yours and totally your responsibility. We haven’t had a very collective notion of these are our children.

So part of it is we have to break through our kind of private idea that kids belong to their parents or kids belong to their families and recognize that kids belong to whole communities.

Once it’s everybody’s responsibility and not just the household’s we start making better investments.”

This is truly one of the most disturbing things I have heard in quite some time.

She has a daughter. Wonder how she would feel about someone else owning hers?

TheMasticator --- 12 years ago -

The takeaway here is that this is where the Left ideology is taking this country......

This woman is in the mainstream of Progressive thought.

Just stuck --- 12 years ago -

This woman needs a lobotomy! Fast! Ultra liberal doesn't even begin to describe her thinking.

Perfection --- 12 years ago -

First, you may want to change your title to spell endorse correctly.

Second, this is the concept that has been going on since Hillary started it in the Clinton administration of "it takes a village".

Step by step they led the sheep and they followed

SoupIsGoodFood --- 12 years ago -

MHP is truly a sheep.

TheMasticator --- 12 years ago -

MHP is truly a sheep.

A sheep with a television mouthpiece and a captive college audience.

As this idea gains momentum, be not suprised when CPS shows up at your door because your parenting has been deemed dangerous to the "community" ...

Perfection --- 12 years ago -

This is why those who choose to home school or private school are frowned upon and the government is against vouchers.

Parents, in their mind, are not smart enough to know what's best.

Parents, in their mind, are not smart enough to know what's best.

But aren't THEY parents too? Guess THEY too don't know what's best...

Semper --- 12 years ago -

Anytime the word "collective" comes into play, there would be cause for concern.

JustAskin' --- 12 years ago -

Second, this is the concept that has been going on since Hillary started it in the Clinton administration of "it takes a village".

It started a long time before Hillary. Read some of John Dewey's writings. He was an educational reformer of the early 20th century and heavily influenced the public education in our country.

Perfection --- 12 years ago -

Very true JustAskin', it is the whole public education system that has started this.

Makes ya wonder when babies will be harvested by the government as they are produced and passed to approved parents.

planemom --- 12 years ago -

They love the idea of a village raising children until another adult tries to correct their child.

Work in Progress --- 12 years ago -

Facebook has exploded about this segment this morning.

VERY concerning. The America that we are raising our children in is very different from the America that we were raised in.

I think a lot of it is because people mistakenly dismiss it. If you haven't taken the time to look into what they are SAYING OUT LOUD about their intentions, then it's easy to think, "Oh, they have good intentions. She didn't mean it that way."

I can assure you that she DID mean it exactly that way. And that's the mindset that we are battling.

They are MY kids. I have the stretch marks to prove it. God has given ME the blessing and awesome responsibility of raising them. He will also grant me the wisdom, the courage, the compassion, and the ability to do it well.

Government, you don't do ANYTHING well. And you "raise" state dependent brats who are "all and all just another brick in the wall."

You want to tick off the women of this nation? Try getting between a mother and her children. We are tigresses when we need to be.

ukchristine --- 12 years ago -

Not ALL women. THIS woman is also a mother. And she has the ability to push these ideas to thousands of her students and via the media and her writings.

Work in Progress --- 12 years ago -

You are correct UK. And it's time that we stand up and say, "BACK OFF!"

I got the stretch marks, the morning sickness, the lack of sleep. I kiss the boo boos, read the books, and scare away the bad dreams. I teach them right from wrong. I deal with the temper tantrums and the meltdowns. I pray fiercely for my children.

Government? A fat bunch of nothing. And it better stay that way.

Perfection --- 12 years ago -

How many people will love to be paid by the government to bear children?

Then more paid to house them.

Then more paid to indoctrinate them.

Perfection --- 12 years ago -

Appreciate the bump on this news. KU is good for finding news that isn't covered by liberal media.

ladyjane --- 12 years ago -

So what we have here is your standard issue African American liberal who's pushing collective ownership of children?

Wait a minute, I'm feeling woozy.

Agent of Change --- 12 years ago -

In reality, Perry's comments were simply a call for society to rethink the way it values children in order to "start making better investments" in things like public education.

In the ad, Perry called on communities to think about children as the responsibility of all. She was not arguing that families should be replaced or that children should be a commodity to be shared throughout the community. The ad actually concludes with Perry saying:

PERRY: Once it's everybody's responsibility and not just the household's, then we start making better investments.

In other words: Drink the kool-aid. I have.

OneEyedManRedux --- 12 years ago -

MHP talking about the add over this past weekend said this:

“This is about whether we as a society, expressing our collective will through our public institutions, including our government, have a right to impinge on individual freedoms in order to advance a common good. And that is exactly the fight that we have been having for a couple hundred years,”

xtruthx --- 12 years ago -

This is why I don't watch MSNBC.

Burying your head from what is going on isn't going to change it.

OneEyedManRedux --- 12 years ago -

expressing our collective will through our public institutions, including our government, have a right to impinge on individual freedoms in order to advance a common good.

This was said in defense of her comments laid out above....

She wants to impinge on your individual rights as a PARENT to advance what she believes is the "common good" .... namely State control over your children.....

Scary stuff.....

xtruthx --- 12 years ago -

Burying your head from what is going on isn't going to change it.

I know...I just choose not to be part of their viewership.

SoupIsGoodFood --- 12 years ago -

Watching too much MSNBC makes one ignorant.

Red Heifer --- 12 years ago -

Did anyone really listen to what she said without a preconception to hate her? Her point was obvious: that we have an obligation to take care of each other. It is similar to Hilary's "it takes a village." She was not saying that we, like Kim Jong Un, are going to come and put your children in community kindercamps. Really. If it was on Fox, no one would be talking about this.

voice of reason --- 12 years ago -

watching too much fox just makes one plain stupid.

Perfection --- 12 years ago -

Are you interpreting her words?

Her words clearly talk about collectivism.

OneEyedManRedux --- 12 years ago -

that we have an obligation to take care of each other

No.. we do not have such an "obligation"......

We may wish to do so for various reasons, but when you start saying that we all have such an obligation, then you are also saying that the State has the obligation to enforce us all to live up to that obligation.....

That does not sound like freedom to me.

Red Heifer --- 12 years ago -

You're right, you don't have to. My tradition, and her values, and American values generally, do nod to being our brothers' keeper. That's a long way from collectivism, and I wouldn't want that either. But this country has a pretty good history--and ethic--of looking out for each other, and not just being each man for himself.

Red Heifer --- 12 years ago -

I'm not sure we're really disagreeing much...it is more what we're hearing in her words. All I heard is that we should (better than "must"?) look out for each other.

SoupIsGoodFood --- 12 years ago -

watching too much fox just makes one plain stupid.

LOL............ case in point.

I guess this means you don't have me hidden any longer, VoR.

sheddy --- 12 years ago -

An African American saying these things! Oh the places I could go, but won't!
