Do any of you own a 'real' one or more? I have never owned one, and DH wants to get me one for my Bday coming up and as much as I appreciate that and would love to have one, I don't want to make a stupid purchase. My question is this: How long do they last with daily use? If I were to get one, I would not use anything else I feel sure and would use it for years. I have researched and most say they last for a very long time and hold up to any usage and still look good after daily use for more than two years. I would like having one that goes virtually with everything, and they do, and I do like them....just don't want to regret purchasing one after it's too late to return it and then stuck with it and the cost of it. I typically would not get something so costly for my bday but if my DH wants that for me, I better appreciate it and not buck his generosity!...lol.

So, just some basic opinions of them if you have had experience owning one, would be greatly appreciated. If they are worth their cost in wear and tear and longevity, I will go ahead and get one I guess. I would not be that disappointed though to pass on it for something else, not a bag at all, and much less cost. The LV bag I am thinking of getting is one of two...either the Delightful MM, or the Neverfull MM. I like the thicker strap on the delightful, but sort of like the style of the neverfull but afraid with what I carry, the weight of it all might eventually pull on the straps where they are connected and begin to rip.

ladybeachbum --- 12 years ago -

I have a few in my closet from over 20 years ago. They were much less then. When I carried mine no one really knew what they were much. Mine are still nice. Would I pay the price now? No way!

Winning --- 12 years ago -

Michael Kors just isn't good enough anymore? Lulz.

It is I WhyWhyWhy --- 12 years ago -

They clean up well with Tide with lavender.

It is I WhyWhyWhy --- 12 years ago -

Also LV are the most copied purses out there I think. Why bother.

tredanis --- 12 years ago -

LV makes you pay with exact change, but they don't tell you that until you get to the store, so bring exact change. Otherwise, they will think you are trying to rip them off.

Winning --- 12 years ago -

To go cups fit in them nicely too.

lulz!

I have one and love it but I still change purses often. It too was a gift from the DH.

LV is very déclassé. I would go with Hermès.

sheddy --- 12 years ago -

Why spend a fortune on something that is just free advertising for a company? I always think of rappers when I see a LV purse. Some rapper had the interior of his car completely done in the LV leather and it has stuck in my mind in a very bad way! lol

Gentlecurves --- 12 years ago -

I'm with ladybeachbum, WAY TOO MUCH $$$. There are people struggling to pay their bills (myself included) If I had that much $ to burn, I would donate to a charity.. IMO

I cannot understand why adults want to make fun of someone. It seems like you pick a different poster each day and then you all start insulting and making fun. Do you have a list?

There is a list, and there is a calendar. Friday is pick a name from a hat day. We rest on Sunday.

**In case I have to spell it out for you, the above was a joke.**

Perfection --- 12 years ago -

Sad that some supposed adults who have nothing better to say come on a thread and make jokes about the poster.

The only people who find your humor funny is those of your ilk - yes only birds of a feather would find mocking someone to be funny.

The rest of the adult population finds this pathetic.

I know, that's how I felt when people were posting pics of dry wall repair when I asked about a recommendations for makeup vendors and artsits for my wedding.....tsk, tsk.....so rude and uncalled for.

Oh well...tomorrow is another day! :)

IbarraFam222 --- 12 years ago -

They will last forever and look better with age IMO. The neverfull is a lot less sturdy than the other. But very cute and reversible.

I like one strap bags. With two straps I feel like one is always falling down.

Have you considered Burberry? I think they are a lot more sturdy and less copied.

I love handbags!

My daughter had a burberry....it doesnt' go with everything like the LV does.

Perfection - Thanks for the support but honestly the winwinwinwhiner and tredanis and the like absolutely do not phase me a bit...I expect it from people like them...it's really ok.

Thanks for the opinions from those that commented with some intelligence. I still am considering it, but mostly because my DH wants me to have one...that means a lot.

flatlander --- 12 years ago -

Scrip, have you been to the outlets on 290 and 45. They have a few purse stores there. I got my mom a coach there for Christmas and got a real good deal on it. They have other purse stores there too but I can't remember which ones.

Polly Ester --- 12 years ago -

I would rather go with something less copied too (if I was into purses). It always seems to be a waste to buy something for a lot $$$ that every other person has a copy of. it looks common.

now, I do have a vintage leather coach bag that was a gift, it isn't covered with logos. I like that style. just classic and timeless IMO.

flatlander --- 12 years ago -

Or check online too. My husband got me a nice coach purse for Christmas online at a real good price. It is different from any other o have seen too. He learned his lesson a couple of years agowhen he bought me a coach for my birthday at Macy's. He paid way to much for it.

ladybeachbum --- 12 years ago -

I,too, am a handbag junkie or I should say was. I didn't have much but the mortgage to spend money on and made a great salary so it was no big deal. It goes with the Rolex when you are climbing the ladder. I just don't see the purse that I throw in the back seat of the truck that important. However, quality and leather still rate up there. I am currently carrying a tiny Coach just because it fits the very necessities I have to have but I am either going back to a purse in my closet or get a new one that will fit my new tablet that I need for work on the go. I am not very vain in these years so the purse that fits the junk I need and looks nice, wins my vote. I never bought a MK purse but my friend that is into purse status carries one. She just told me about the new in designer she bought for her daughter but I forget the name...toy something maybe.
But..if a LV purse makes you happy and you want to scent it in lavender fabric sheets, that ought to be fine with every one. None of us has the same wants and needs. Mine have drastically changed in 20 years.
You do have me thinking about going and checking out my LV's to see if one of them fits for my tablet. I am a little purse frightened on someone deciding to steal it for it's supposed contents...they would get my dang tablet. They could have the purse! I can see me now negotiating to let me empty it first...not good.
Your hubby is a sweetheart to get you such a nice gift. Mine would, too, but he would make sure the receipt was in the bag.
Happy Birthday, Setta!

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 12 years ago -

they're very well made, and last forever- I wouldn't do it again, though-way overpriced, too many copies. I'm w/Georgia- if you want a name bag go with Hermes-I personally like Makowsky-very well made, and the price is fine-pretty unknown, though-Nordstrom's (on line) carries them, and they take returns and pay postage if you don't like it-(no shipping either way)

yeah....I do have Michael Kors and Coach and Dooney's...if I go with this LV, I will sell all of the others and just use the one. I have had most all brands at one time or another except the LV and a few other really high priced bags. I have never spent over 500 on a purse and to do that is really hard for me. We are not "money" people...we are comfortable and I am grateful for that, but we aren't people that lavish with high dollar cars or fancy stuff. We have a nice house filled with nice things, most that I got second hand on KYS...LOL...and some new things but almost always on clearance or great sales. I just really have a hard time spending that much on something that is just for me. If it were for our family to all use, like an appliance or furniture etc. it wouldn't bother me as much but for just me it does. I guess after raising kids, working hard all these years as well, and being a good wife, he just wants me to finally have something nice for just me. I lost my diamond out of my ring like 20 years ago and never replaced it. We wear sterling silver bands that have our wedding vows engraved on them and I drive an 05 vehicle...we just aren't big spenders. This is something I have to make myself do. I have no problems spending 300 on a MK purse or any other because I take care of my things and I use them a lot. I don't buy expensive clothes, but I do spend a little on handbags and shoes in good name brands that last. My clothes though, I love to find at upper scale resale shops or outlets. My makeup is not expensive and I get my hair done like every three months, so I shouldn't feel guilty about this and it IS a gift...lol. It's just one of those things and I just want to be sure. I would feel badly if we got it and then a month down the road I wish I hadn't and stopped using it because of something I didn't like about it....guess that's the only real drawback...that one concern. That is why I am asking opinions from people that have had them.

dogs --- 12 years ago -

Don't apologize for wanting a LV, but don't plan on selling all of your other purses (who really buys old purses?) and carrying only LV (ESP when it is raining- leather handles will spot if wet).

If you are looking in the neverful/delightful price range, you might want to consider Marc by Marc Jacobs or other brand. The two handbags you mentioned are more totes/casual and not very structured.

If you want one and can afford one, go for it. Just don't expect it to be your only/last handbag!

Mabel --- 12 years ago -

Agree!

scipsekatattes --- 12 years ago -

Well dogs...you do make sense about selling my others. The only thing is that if I find I love the LV and will use it and not care to use the others, they are in such great like new condition, I'd hate them to sit there and not get used and get outdated when it could contribute to what the LV will cost. I am like that...I rarely ever buy a new something without selling the old something to pay part of the new!...lol. We just recently bought all new stainless appliances (our others were over 10 years old and older). The only thing we didn't buy new there was the frig...I just could not stomach paying over 2000 for a refrigerator! So, I went on KYS, and bought a nice stainless french, with ice and water in door and the bottom pull out freezer for a fourth of what a new one we were looking at for 2500 and this one is only three years old! It has a couple of small scratches but that's Ok....for what we saved I can handle that!..lol. We don't like the opening where you get ice because you can't put a tall glass under it too well, but that's the only thing we don't like about it and I can live with that. Anyway, I sold my other one for 250!....so that brought down the price of this one to just over 400. So I count that a real blessing! We bought the rest of the applicances new though yes....couldn't find what we wanted in a used model for a fair price so we just bit the bullet and bought new on those.

Oh and I'm not apologizing for wanting a LV...I have always wanted one and that's why DH wants it for me but my tastes have changed over the years and I'm not as much a fanatic about wanting one as I did years back when we really couldn't afford it. I guess I'll probably get this one and that will be it and use it for a couple of years and go back to lesser expensive ones then...lol. I will be selling my others though I feel sure....I don't know...maybe I'll keep them....or just give them as gifts to my step daughters or bff or nieces. I guess it depends on how I feel after we buy it and that money comes out of the bank...lol. If you really think about it though....it's like buying four Dooney's or MK's...but just getting all four at one time and instead getting one that is special because DH wants it for me. If I think of it that way...I can probably do it OK.

kwoodmom2 --- 12 years ago -

If you decide to sell your dooney pm me!! Lol

flatlander --- 12 years ago -

Make him a deal. Tell him you will let him buy you the purse if he let's you keep the foster dog:-) I have a little SPCA foster right now and I would love if hubby said just keep her.

scipsekatattes --- 12 years ago -

If you decide to sell your dooney pm me!! Lol

I will....it's the vintage that sort of looks like a LV but with the DB's all over it and I have the wallet to match. It is brown with beige letters and red interior. I have had a lot of compliments on that one!

Flatlander: If he would let me keep Lucky I sure would!!!! I love him SO much. He is still with us though because honestly we don't have time to 'home' him and I am way too picky to let someone else do it for me. I want to meet and learn the people that will have him and "I" want to do the home inspection/visits for him once he's adopted. He is still a toot sometimes but for the most part, he has adapted to our way of doing things and calmed WAY down. He knows when not to do things now and he sleeps in the living room at night with the others in front of the TV, he is so very loving and comes every evening (our little thing we do) and lays his head on my lap and I love on him...and he closes his eyes while I pet his ears and head and face...he loves that. He is so soft and silky....and such a gentle loving dog. If I am not in the living area, I am usually at my dining table on my laptop and he will lay at my feet in there. He plays outside with Jax now pretty well....they love to chase squirrels together. PROBLEM though is that hubby wants our lives back to normal with only our two small babies. They used to go with us on trips etc. and now we can't go because we have Lucky. DH doesn't want to spend money on a kennel to leave him in for days when we go either because he says we aren't keeping him so wants to not invest anything more in him...ugh...but I DO understand how he feels...it's not his fault. I am the one that convinced him to let me save Lucky in the first place by 'promising' him we'd have him no more than a month.....now 7 months later, he has lost faith in that promise and it has RUINED me for being able to EVER foster again now because of it. I had finally convinced him that we could foster one every other month for only a month and help save lives....now he doesn't believe that (naturally) so there won't be any more fosters with us =-(. So, where Lucky dog is concerned, he will remain fed, healthy, happy and spoiled with us until we find his "perfect for him" forever family.

IbarraFam222 --- 12 years ago -

You definitely need to go to the LV store and take a look at all the styles and then go home and think about the ones you like.

My sister has the neverfull and I can tell ya you're not going to be impressed with it. She got it at like 16. And like I said its reversible. That should tell you how it lacks structure. I just saw a video review of the other one you like and now I want one. Thanks a lot!

If you have an iPhone download poshmark. You can sell your old bags very easy. They collect 20% though. Way better than eBay.

scipsekatattes --- 12 years ago -

IbarraFam222....I already did!...LOL. That's what got DH thinking to get me one for my bday. We went to LV Galleria about 8 months ago and I looked at all the styles and the Delightful GM was the one I wanted but they don't make that one anymore....but they still have the PM and MM (medium size) which is still huge...so that's the one I will get. I loved it in person. I watched a youtube of someone that has the other one, the neverfull and she said she loves it and uses it more than any of her five others....bless her heart...LOL. This girl (on youtube) DH takes her to France to buy most of hers...lol....but I did appreciate her really good review. She didn't have the Delightful line though and there is another lady that has all three sizes of that one style and has a youtube about them. MAN...where to do these people come up with all that money???? Even if we were rich I wouldn't have 15 LV purses!....lol. She has like 2 or three sizes in most of their styles and you can tell they aren't fakes either. I know if I get this one, it will be the only one I get for a couple of years if I ever get another one at all!.

scipsekatattes --- 12 years ago -

One thing I must say though to the other comments above about how badly they are copied...that part is true enough. We just left Schlotzkys in Humble and there was a woman in line for lunch there that had what looked like a fairly new LV bag on her shoulder. It appeared to be a real one but I did find myself checking it out and doubting it...yet it was probably real as could be!...LOL. Honestly though I don't care if people think mine is fake....I'll know it's real and a great quality and that's all that matters.

IbarraFam222 --- 12 years ago -

My mom has like 6 of them maybe more. She never lets me borrow them though! She gets one just about every year for her birthday and Christmas present. My parents are able to spend a lot because their house was paid off after a tornado hit their home in 1992! All their cars are paid off and they didnt have to worry about putting my siblings and I through school.

NikeGirl87 --- 12 years ago -

I don't see the point in buying something so expensive when you can buy a bunch of cute purses for less .. That is just my opinion though.

PokerFace --- 12 years ago -

But they are so ugly! I never understand how someone can walk around advertising a designer with an ugly patten just because it says, "I spent a lot on my bag!"

It's definitely a habit Setta has.

An LV purse could buy a REALLY nice mattress for that step-grandson.

Mabel --- 12 years ago -

WOW! Really all this over someone should or should not buy a damn purse? Do any of you people really think what you have said (posted) is really going to weigh in on her decision? No, but she did get a whole tread all about her.
