June 27, 2013

Houston City Council Member Dave Martin Informs the Public of Construction on Northpark Drive

Houston, TX - Beginning July 1, 2013, the City of Houston's Public Works and Engineering Department will begin constructing a dedicated left turn lane at the intersection of Northpark Drive at Woodridge Parkway/Hidden Pines to accommodate large traffic volumes and mitigate traffic flow. Construction will take place Monday through Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and is expected to be completed by July 25, 2013. During this time, east bound traffic will be down to one lane from the 1900 to the 2200 block of Northpark Drive. Council Member Dave Martin's office will follow the construction progress and update the community should there be any changes to the schedule. For more information, please contact the council member's office at (832) 393-3008 or by email at districte@houstontx.gov.

Thank you for the notice!

If y'all have issues about Northpark traffic and don't take this opportunity to speak up and make a difference..... you, quite frankly, deserve to rot sitting in the CF'd traffic on said road.....

zapper007 --- 12 years ago -

Thanks for heads up...

I just emailed the contact person to request that the construction schedule be modified - to 10 PM to 6 AM daily, when traffic volume is lower.

We shall see...

Thank you for making your voice heard... I have emailed them as well.

Peeking Boo --- 12 years ago -

Seriously??? For 3 weeks, the whole stretch of NP will be ONE LANE?

I'm looking at the map and am I reading this correct? From Kenneths Car Care to almost Brookdale. Are they adding dedicated left turns lanes to each cross section?

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 12 years ago -

that should be fun...why can't they have construction during the night, like normal people?

freebyrdII --- 12 years ago -

Email them!!!!!

Great Idea! We should all send them a note. If they worked at night then it would be so much better during the day.

AMEN!!!!

AngieKaye --- 12 years ago -

just warned the husband and boys.. thank goodness they all can go west lake houston or ford rd to work

Peeking Boo --- 12 years ago -

Email them!!!!!

done.

I see Ford Rd. getting very busy that month.

june --- 12 years ago -

Just emailed. If we all email and ask everyone we know to do the same, it might make a difference. We won't know if we don't try :)

freebyrdII --- 12 years ago -

Thank you June.... Please y'all..... don't assume everyone else is emailing... be proactive, send an email!

I'm torn. I live only a few blocks from that intersection in NWH. Nighttime construction would really disrupt the family, especially one child who is an aggravatingly light sleeper. But then, I work from home and go in and out of that intersection several times a day (and night).

There are hundreds of houses even closer than mine. They probably have to do the work during the day because it would be too noisy to do at night.

I'm still going to send an email requesting night work as well, but I suspect there is a city noise ordinance pertaining to proximity of residential structures that precludes them from doing it at night.

Road "bump!"

Photomomof2 --- 12 years ago -

You would think they rather work at night then get a heat stroke.

TinktheSprite --- 12 years ago -

The cost it more to work at night with the extra lighting equipment etc. Plus they probably have to pay the workers some kind of extra night pay. I think moving the time up during the day would be more acceptable by the City. Is the traffic that direction into Kingwood that busy in the mornings? I don't know why the heck it would take that long to make the turn lane and why they have to close off so much of Northpark? Maybe they will be smart and erect the signal at the same time??

freebyrdII --- 12 years ago -

And widen the stretch between the 59 feeder and 494.

Peeking Boo --- 12 years ago -

This is the response I received.

I emailed-the street I live on already has people racing down it to avoid traffic in the morning/afternoon rush hours. I can only imagine how bad it will get.

kwoodmom2 --- 12 years ago -

Just curious if anyone is out and about and how the traffic is from this

freebyrdII --- 12 years ago -

I am officially avoiding NPark .....

kwoodmom2 --- 12 years ago -

Lol. I already warned the hubby for when he comes home from work, but prob no point since kingwood dr and ford rd will be bad too from it.

napoleon --- 12 years ago -

Is it officially down to one lane today?

kwoodmom2 --- 12 years ago -

Supposed to be, but I'm not brave enough to venture out to see lol

Peeking Boo --- 12 years ago -

I'll be going out in a bit. It would take me longer to avoid NP than the just deal with slow traffic.

KWD sucks just as much and Ford Rd is too far out of the way.

freebyrdII --- 12 years ago -

Drats

Peeking Boo --- 12 years ago -

It's only one lane up to the church. No big deal at this time. After work rush might be different story.

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 12 years ago -

9 to 5- could they be any more stupid? Oh- and of course, not Sunday...

freebyrdII --- 12 years ago -

Double DRATS!!

I took this pic a few minutes ago at the northbound feeder @ NPark.......

freebyrdII --- 12 years ago -

I'm moving!

a3742956uu --- 12 years ago -

I came through at 4:10 and the construction equipment was off the road and both lanes were open. People were moving slow b/c of the warning signs, but it was no biggie today.

TinktheSprite --- 12 years ago -

I came back into KW around noon-12:30-ish via Northpark forgetting all about construction starting today. What slowed everyone down were the Lookieloos. It was slow and moving but not as slow as if there were an accident. People will learn what's going on eventually and hopefully traffic will move more smoothly at Hidden Pines Dr./Northpark.
