They are TRI-focals. I am not sure I like them. I know it is only Day 1. They say by Day 5 I won't even think about them. But I have a headache and have bouts of dizziness. If you have Progressive Lens, how long did it take you to get used to using them??

Keystone --- 11 years ago -

Mine are only bifocals, but it usually only takes me a day or 2. Right now I have 2 different frames with the same prescription in each and one is harder on me than the other. I think the shape of the lens has a lot to do with it. Those smaller rectangular lenses that are popular now really don't work for bi- and tri-focals. I get as big a lens as I can find. My friends think I'm a fogey, but they won't when they're my age and can't see!

I asked the technician last time I got glasses if anyone still gets the line bifocals and she said yes, many do, because progressive doesn't work for them.

Gigix4 --- 11 years ago -

I've had them for years and years. I think the very first ones, took a week to 10 days before I got used to them.

It was the "lined" bifocals that gave me a headache.

If they are still giving you problems in the next week, go back and have them checked. The last pair I got, they screwed the lense up pretty bad in my left eye ... that did cause headaches and dizziness.

RedMulch --- 11 years ago -

You guys should get interocular lens implants like i did. Back in the day you had to have cataracts to get them....now you can have them electively. I've had mine for 20 years and i buy reading glasses at the 99cent store

TinktheSprite --- 11 years ago -

I loved my lined bifocals. I never slipped and viewed through the line. But I don't think 2 lines on my lens would look good?? Gonna try contacts if I don't adjust to this. Mid distance on the computer is the hardest.

Gigix4 --- 11 years ago -

Just remember to point your nose at what you want to look at ... at least that's what they told me and it works.

TinktheSprite --- 11 years ago -

I do that Gigi. I think my nose is crooked on my face! My eyes keep wanting to wander into the Soft Focus part of my glasses. Disastrous!!

Gigix4 --- 11 years ago -

I think my nose is crooked on my face!

Ah ha! Now we know what the problem is. lol

Seriously, if they are still bothering you in a couple of days, go back and have them checked. It could be something as simple as they don't have the correct "tilt" of the lenses in the frames.

sheddy --- 11 years ago -

I have had bifocals for about six years and it usually takes a couple of days to get adjusted. I have had to go back and get the glasses adjusted, so maybe if they tweek them a little you'll feel better. My neighbor was on her third pair, still couldn't get used to them and told me last week, she is going back to the lined ones.

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 11 years ago -

Poor baby!! Ugh

calliecat --- 11 years ago -

I could not get used to them! I got Lasik surgery instead!

TinktheSprite --- 11 years ago -

Lasik won't help my farsightedness. That is where I am bad @3.25. I am only @ .25 for near-sightedness. I am barely corrected where Lasik would affect.--- My headache is still here. My eyes hurt. I am making chocolate chip cookies. That will help, I'm sure.

zapper007 --- 11 years ago -

...about 2-3 weeks or more!!!

WARNING...once you get lasik surgery, it is impossible to fit corrective cataract lenses!!!

Jpgirl --- 11 years ago -

Dh never got used to them- he went to contacts-
Actually he just uses one contact in his dominant eye. I just went to contacts and am having a hard time adjusting with one contact for distance and one for reading- talk about dizzy!!

FabFive --- 11 years ago -

I don't wear bifocals but I do wear glasses sometimes.

Sometimes it is what the lens is made out of. There is one type of plastic that is the new popular thing, if I wear those I get headaches like crazy.

txlady67 --- 11 years ago -

I wear multi focal contacts. it took me going back to the doctor 3-4 times and trying on about 8 different pairs. I knew almost immediately if they worked. I have found a pair that works and I love them. I also have a pair of progressive glasses. I only wear them when my contacts bother me and I give my eyes a break. I have never had a problem adjusting to my glasses.

typical. Trying to control how you look at things.. Should have gone with conservative lenses.

:)

random --- 11 years ago -

for progressives, be sure that they are not slipping down. I also have a crooked nose, and have to drop by and get them "tighten" fairly often. But love the triple progressives, hate the lined.

Random,
Why are you repeating?

TinktheSprite --- 11 years ago -

What are conservative lenses? I need trifocals. I think the 2 lines on my lenses would be more distracting to me than adjusting to this pair without them.

random --- 11 years ago -

jcitrus,
because I accidentally hit twice and I couldn't get the second one to delete or edit. If you know how, I'd be glad to fix it!

This was not your best show. I love humor that respects us enough to get it. You seem to have a gift and the right kind of intelligence for that kind of humor.

thank you! That was very nice of you to say!

I always try to use humor in my presentations (it sometimes takes people a while to realize that the economist is Trying to be funny). I never know how well it translates into text.

TinktheSprite --- 11 years ago -

Sorry. Guess I wasn't in a joking frame of mind when reading that. I thought it was an honest suggestion for me to adjust to my new lenses. I am still not yet 100% happy with them.

Am I the only one that read the thread title in Flo's voice?

I still feel like Helen Keller with these glasses on. I think they need tweaking. But at least I am not dizzy any more.

TinktheSprite --- 11 years ago -

I sent my lenses back. They enlarged the reading part of the "triangle" so that there is more space for close up work. They are perfect now! I just have to get used to wearing them all the time. I hope multi-focal contact lenses are this easy to adjust.
