My niece and nephew are in town for the week from corpus ages 9 and 5. I want to do something with them for free or reasonably priced (im on a budget) while grandma is at work and they dont have to stay in the house all day. They are already beginning to get burned out on the park thing. Any suggestions

go downtown and explore the tunnel system, go to the observation deck at the chase tower, visit discovery green, ride the light rail.

you can buy tickets to the livestock show for $5 a kid.

+1

You could also burn half a day at Old McDonalds Farm on 1960 without spending too much money.

Or you can go fish somewhere on the lake, we usually go out to east end park..

Jessie Jones Park. Aside from the park itself for hiking, fishing on the river, and picnicking, there is an animal exhibit, and they have many programs for free including canoeing, star-gazing, and bug-catching. Take FM1960 West and turn right on Foxwood. The park is at the very end of the street.

Livestock show is free for 60+ and 12 and under on Wednesday. $5 for everyone else and just $10 per person if you want to go to the rodeo and concert. Parking is $12 though.

That can get pretty pricey with kids that are to old to "legally" bring food for.

The 9 & 4 yr old being old enough to want souvenirs doesn't help anything either.

Thanks for the information. Just purchased a home in Kingwood 2 years ago. Family is here while kids on spring break this week. Now I have a list of things I can do.

Perfection --- 11 years ago -

The Houston Chronicle website has an article every week with things to do in the area for free or cheap.

It's a good tool

Go simple. Take them to the park and fly a kite.

I've taken my kids to East End Park for a photo scavenger hunt. Make a list of items and let them use your phone or camera to take as many pictures of things that they can find from the list ~ A bird in flight, broken tree branch, flower, bug, etc. Take some snacks or even pack a lunch!
