Have you been to the Houston Live Stock Show yet this year? If so, what is the best food you have had there?

AwesomeTattooedDragon --- 11 years ago -

live or dead?

whatchamacallit --- 11 years ago -

Cotton Candy

thecardmaker --- 11 years ago -

It sounds awful, but fried Oreos. My daughter wanted me to try them and to my surprise....yummy!

Ender --- 11 years ago -

Turkey Leg

SagaciousSighFiGurl (Mod) --- 11 years ago -

WHut?? I thought the BBQ was suppose to be the best, eat ribs, people!!

CRM6146 --- 11 years ago -

Deep fried Oreos are good, the deep fried brownie is sooo much better, comes with ice cream, hard for 1 person to eat it alone. There is a small trailer outside of the reliant center that has the best.

Ender --- 11 years ago -

But you can dual wield a turkey leg/beer combo..

Good luck doing that with ribs

JustPeachy27 --- 11 years ago -

My Daddy was on a rodeo cook-off team many years ago .. My favorite is the brisket. I remember when they won first for their brisket.

FabFive --- 11 years ago -

Is there anything remotely healthy there? We are going on Saturday and I like vegetables and fruit!

JustPeachy27 --- 11 years ago -

My Husband and I shared a turkey leg today .. Those things are huge. I agree, they need veggies and fruit too.

FabFive --- 11 years ago -

When I see people walking around eating turkey legs I just feel like we should have moved past this. Yuck!

FANCY PANTS --- 11 years ago -

Sorry FF, I don't think healthy is on the menu. I do think you can take in your own food. I did years ago. One day of unhealthy food will be ok.

Cotton Candy

Yuck!

I would think BBQ would be best. But really, what is the best meal? Not candy, cotton candy, or fried sweets please. That just does not go with the beer.

To what, eating wads of tofu on a stick?

FabFive --- 11 years ago -

No I hate tofu.

And one day of bad food won't kill me but I feel sick after I eat bad food. After eating well for so long my body doesn't like it when I put crap in. My stomach hurts, I get dizzy and nauseous. So I guess I'll bring my own food. The strawberries are especially tasty right now.

Mago4058 --- 11 years ago -

Pappasitos, berry hill have grilled shrimp, however it's probably covered in butter etc. healthy eating here so I paid the price for one bad night of glutany lol. Let me know but water is the healthiest.

Ender --- 11 years ago -

What makes a turkey leg bad for you? I have always thought that grilled meat was a fairly healthy meal as long as there isn't to much fat.

I am not being antagonistic, I just want to know if there is something I missed.

I understand that if you are a vegetarian or something along those lines, suddenly eating meat would probably make you sick.

FabFive --- 11 years ago -

There are tons of links between meat and cancer. I'm not a vegetarian but I don't think it's long before I will be. Not because I don't like meat, I do. But the cancer links and the way I feel after isn't worth it. My personal opinion is that people have become so accustomed to the chemicals and additives in our foods that they can't even tell how they feel after eating something that doesn't feel good to our bodies. It was that way for me. I used to feed my kids fast food if I was in a pinch. Now if someone tries to feed them fast food they won't eat it because they know it upsets their stomach and they end up on the toilet. It's just as easy to grab apples, bananas, or whatever.

I am pretty sure there is a link between EVERYTHING and cancer.

Human beings are omnivores, our systems are designed to handle a diet of meat, fruit & veggies. Bread and sugar are the real "unnatural" additions to our diet in recent years.

I would be remiss to note that most "meat" that we consume today has been inundated with salt, so that is something for everyone to keep in mind.

The restaurant next to the Papasitos Booth had 2 vegetarian options. Vegetarian Taco Salad and a Black Bean/Spinach Burrito. The BBS Burrito was what I got and it was gooooooood!

But the rate at which the typical American consumes meat is alarming. I do not believe we were designed to eat this way. A typical family farm of 100+ years ago is how we should eat. Moderation. Feed lots and chicken farms are inhumane to the animals and allowing us to eat way too much meat. Also, the USDA recently approved for chickens to be grown in the USA, sent to China for processing, then sent back to the USA for sale. These are still labeled Product of USA. If we actually need to outsource our meat processing to that point, it's way too much.

FabFive --- 11 years ago -

Oh thank you Dr. I will definitely look into that! Sounds delicious.

Ender --- 11 years ago -

The way the typical American consumes ANYTHING is alarming.

I agree

I remember reading an article somewhere that said that the average dinner plate size has increased from around 8" back in the 1930s to 10-12" today.

Also, outsourcing meat is BS.
